poffles Posted March 18, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 18, 2008 This may be subjective and difficult to answer, but figured I'd see what peoples thoughts were. We are adults only looking to do 7 night carribbean, friends 40+ are considering a Carnival cruise and we would be prefer less chaos and less children and a calmer type cruise with regard to noise and crowding. No committed date, but we will avoid the prime times like school breaks and holidays. We aren't book worms or anything, we will definitely be enjoying the lounges and entertainment. In other words, we are not planning to hide away in our rooms or anything. Is there any difference among the ships with regard to the "atmosphere". I was looking at the new ships figuring they would be nicer, however, they are typically the larger ships and wonder if bigger is NOT necessarily better as it may just mean overcrowding. Thoughts/opinions? Thanks all ... !
mfs2k Posted March 18, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 18, 2008 There are several charters of an entire Carnival ship for a week that are nude cruises.... I would guess that is mostly adults only :D

If you take a cruise while school is in session, you are less likely to have lots of kids on board.
GoinCruisin Posted March 18, 2008 #6 Share Posted March 18, 2008 It's going to depend more on the dates you choose, and the port of departure. There isn't going to be a cruise that has no children on it, unless it is a charter... but at certain times of the year, there will be fewer. We cruise every October and there are very few children... I haven't been on any ship that catered to a particular demographic, but time of year makes a HUGE difference. trock Posted March 18, 2008 #12 Share Posted March 18, 2008 Celebrity offers a nice adults only cruise.. called Celebrity Escape "Celebrity Cruise Line offers adult only cruises referred to as “Celebrity Escape” cruises where all passengers must be over the age of 21. In addition these seven and eleven night cruises have special services, events and activities geared toward adults such as extended pool hours, late night comedy acts, an enhanced breakfast room service menu, etc." It has very limited sailings.. you would have to check with X

Or choose a cruiseline like HAL known more for its older crowd. When you pay more there are usually less children. Fact of life, Carnival is a family cruiseline. Yes, but with the old crowd come … granted less kids but also , how can I say this…. well, the ship is DEAD after, oh, lets say right after early dining... OK, that is a bit over the top, but in truth, the HAL, Princess and Celebrity ships often do get very slow, yes dead even, very early into the evening. If you want late night activities, such as a midnight adult rated comedy, more late night activities, Carnival is the way to go! You do risk there being a lot of kids, but the trade off is you don’t risk being ran over by walkers and wheel chairs, (I had my foot ran over by one of the little electric scooters just last week on the Dawn Princess.. NOT KIDDING) and watching paint dry as being the big event of the night. I can hardly wait for the new Celebrity Solstice, they will be replacing “Watching paint dry” with “Watching the grass grow”

We are adults but still breathing, nothing against the older generation as I will be there soon enough and if I have a walker I will bring it along. I didn't say there should be no children, just looking to reduce the numbers. I really don't think I would even like an adults only cruise, and that doesn't guarantee anything anyway. I think Carnival still sounds like a good ship, instead it looks like the time of year is more the thing to consider. Let's just say we don't plan on going to bed directly after supper. :) Too expensive a trip to roll up the carpet so early. Thanks again.

Rouge Wave Posted March 18, 2008 #21 Share Posted March 18, 2008 [/b] Are we cheerleading? Celebrity provides an awesome cruise! Just like Princess, with Celebrity, some cruises are better then others. If you look, you will see I have a 14 day Celebrity cruse booked in Sept. I have no issue with Celebrity, nor with Princess, nor Carnival, or Hal for that matter. All offer a different product. However Carnival and RCCl tend to have a younger Adult demographic. But nothing is set in stone, on the 7 day Mexican Rivera cruise just a few days ago. on the Dawn Princess, one would expect a more lively group and .. well you have heard of a booze cruise, this one was a snooze cruise. It was beyond boring and dead, on sea days. (The CD stunk) On the other hand I was on a 15 day Princess cruise the end of last year and it was lively late into the night. In both cases few kids. Cheerleader Me? Not in this century. I call it like I see it and do not make excuses for any cruise line. I am not loyal, I sail for itinerary, then experience/ship then price. Right now I have a lot of Carnival stuff booked but that is just the way it has worked out, nothing more. I did not know about the over age 21 Celebrity cruises, that does intrigue me. Personally I would love to find a cruise that is over 25 and under 65. If not in real age at lest in mindset.
gazingm42 Posted March 18, 2008 #22 Share Posted March 18, 2008 It really depends when you cruise. If you cruise in school season you might find less kids. But understand there a lot of parents what will still take kids out for vacation. Or kids do have extended breaks which parents take full advantages of. We get a fall break in our schools and we try to line up a vacation on that week.

Rouge Wave Posted March 18, 2008 #24 Share Posted March 18, 2008 what he stated about Celebrity simply isnt true.. Been on it 4x... had a blast (first time was my honeymoon).. I think, and i may be wrong, but i think he cruised to Alaska, which i hear (no interest) is always a senior snooze cruise... LOLI think years ago Celebrity may have had that rep, but its not like that... Funny when people attack Carnival.. its always the same reply.. never cruised it, blah blah I don't list cruises I have been on, just ones booked/up coming.... I am NOT attacking Celebrity. So settle down. I gave my opinion. I’ll say again, I am in no way a cheerleader and I am in no way loyal to any one cruise line. If ANY cruise line offers and delivers the product I seek for a cruise, I am happy, if they don’t, I am not. It is really cut and dry, not much grey area with me on that. I will say, some friends, mid 40’s/50’s did the Mercury out of Australia last Nov and found it rather slow. However, such has yet to be the situation for me. I HAD yet to have such occur on a Princess cruise UNTIL last week on the Dawn Princess…. So It is good to know you have always picked well with Celebrity, hope the trend continues for you. So, if I am looking for a more lively, and a bit rowdy time with music that was recorded since the advent of the compact disc but not a drink until you puke cruise with walkers and elec “rascal” scooters few, I have found Carnival meets that need. They have a midnight Adult comedy show of some sort most nights, which I have yet to see on Celebrity, Princess or HAL. I have also found the Casino far more active on Carnival then on any other cruise lines.
Cruisin thru life Posted March 18, 2008 #25 Share Posted March 18, 2008 Although I have a child myself, I have a very low tolorance for "other people's" children. We generally take our family cruise late Nov - early Dec due to the fact that the rates are lower right between the two holiday breaks, and there are generally less children. On the Fanasty last month I barely saw any children. Maybe that is because most kids had just gone back to school from the Christmas/New Year's break, or it could have been because I did not have my child with me so I just mentally blocked out the children. The only kids that stick out in my mind were the four that joined their parents at the past guest party. All were very young and screamed and carried on through the time we were there.
