Drew B Posted April 19, 2008 #26 Share Posted April 19, 2008 We just cancelled a Sky Suite on the Millie and rebooked on HALfrom NZ to Aus. About the same money and a larger suite on HAL, but we will miss the butler. All this because my DH can not smoke on the balcony. He never smoked in cabin or in the casino, but he enjoyed having a smoke with his morning coffee on the balcony or in the bar with a drink. Yes I wrote to Celebrity as to why we are leaving them - note that I don't think they care about one cabin less. Goodbye Celebrity we will miss you, Francine & Pat Did you also write to HAL as to why you have chosen to book with them? I think that is even more important... Duanerice1 Posted April 19, 2008 #27 Share Posted April 19, 2008 What is the point though of starting a thread "Goodbye Celebrity" on the Celebrity board? It is just troll bait. Exactly. If someone is going to leave, then just leave. I don't mean it in a bad way it's just I was wonder with all these posts, not necessarily just in this thread, but all the "I'm going to leave Celebrity posts", why they didn't just leave. If I was against a specific line and I wasn't going to cruise on them, I doubt very much I would post on their boards. Of course everyone is welcome and I love reading most of the posts. It's just I don't get it. I'd be off enjoying my new place. enjoy, Duane
Kaboochi Posted April 19, 2008 #28 Share Posted April 19, 2008 The original post is confusing to me as the original problem that made you switch was not stated. I love Celeb Summit. We have sailed RC and liked that line. Only advantage with RC is that the balcony rooms are bigger. On Celeb Summit, the service, food and beds are fare superior. Plus, they don't hound you to buy drinks at the pool or in the bars like RC does. I'd like to know the details about the switch. Laurie

Drew B Posted April 19, 2008 #30 Share Posted April 19, 2008 By the same token, what is the point of the "WooHoo! Way to go, Celebrity. I'm so excited! I love this new smoking policy..." type of post? Neither type of post is particularly informative. Both simply reflect people venting their feelings... Perhaps there is a little motivation of trying to send a message to the cruiseline with these posts(and we know they have reps who read these boards), but that holds true of the positive as well as the negative... Drew B Posted April 19, 2008 #32 Share Posted April 19, 2008 Agree. I just don't get it.Duane Well, many of us smokers are used to coming on here and posting nearly every day. Maybe we're just as addicted to this forum as we are to our cigarettes...:p It's not easy quitting the board cold turkey, whether or not we decide to sail with Celebrity again. rubrrick Posted April 19, 2008 #38 Share Posted April 19, 2008 I love Celebrity even more now than RCL........as I can order a bottle of liquor (I can't do that at Royal Caribbean) and enjoy a smokeless ship. kman48 Posted April 19, 2008 #39 Share Posted April 19, 2008 Gee, Usha, maybe you've caught me, confusing two of my better experiences ...I know I have the date right...I had,of course, been smoking in the casino on the last night of a cruise and on the way back to our cabin, I threw away the rest of my pack. I was thinking, last night, that it was on Infinity-to-Hawaii, but apparently I was mistaken . Sorry to have "puzzled" you, your head must have been just spinning, and I'm sorry. Rare terrydtx Posted April 19, 2008 #40 Share Posted April 19, 2008 After smoking for almost 30 years I got really tired of but put up with: • Having to smoke outside my office building in the rain, cold and snow • Having to wake in the morning craving that first cigarette and hacking up who knows what • Having nicotine withdrawal on airline flights longer than 2 hours and then finding the arrival or connecting airport is totally non smoking • Having to hear lectures from my friends and family about the evils of smoking • Having to sit in a restaurant with my non smoking friends and family in the no smoking section and not being able to enjoy a smoke with the meal or going outside in the rain, cold and snow • Having to stay in hotels with no smoking rooms available so once again I am outside in the rain, cold and snow • Having my wife threaten to leave me if didn’t stop smoking But 5 years ago I went cold turkey and quit the habit for good, but not for any of the above reasons, it took my doctor telling me I had extreme hypertension and that if I didn’t stop smoking I would most likely have heart disease and a heart attack in less than 5 years. Now I have one added benefit from not smoking I can cruise on any cruise line with out the worry of changes in any smoking policy, and fly in airplanes for longer than 2 hours to get to that cruise with out worry. And with a longer life expectancy, I will now enjoy so many more cruises in my lifetime. I am not condemning attacking or criticizing any smoker just telling you what was best for me. BUT NOW CELEBRITY WILL BE MY NEW CRUISE LINE OF CHOICE---SO HELLO CELEBRITY:D :D

rucruizin Posted April 19, 2008 #42 Share Posted April 19, 2008 This is fabulous news for me. I'm going to have to seriously consider Celebrity for my cruise next spring. We were going to do another Sandals vacation, but in light of the new policy...I may have to send them my $$$$$. Reactive airway disease sucks! foxyG Posted April 19, 2008 #43 Share Posted April 19, 2008 It's been rather disappointing to see the amount of "vitriol" that this subject has raised. Let's put the pro's and con's to one side and look at it purely as a "contract issue" We are booked on our first cruise ever with Celebrity for Feb 2009, but now I am going to cancel it, and no doubt lose my £200 deposit because Celebrity have made, for me, a major change to the booking conditions after I had booked and this change will seriously detract from my enjoyment of my holiday. As a "new" cruiser, I methodically checked the smoking policies of each cruise line as well as the itineraries before making a decision. I also tried to book a cabin as far to the aft of the ship as possible in order to minimise the effect that my occasional cigarette on the balcony would have on other passengers. I have never and would not contemplate smoking in a non smoking hotel room / restaurant or other public area! Irrespective of the arguments regarding smoking, I am decidedly unimpressed that Celebrity chose to make a statement publicly without contacting existing customers in advance. They are very keen to collect our contact details for marketing purposes but apparently don't have the common decency to use the same technology to contact customers individually to let us know about this change. If it hadn't been for the news on CC I wonder how long Celebrity would have taken to contact me, if at all! If and when I choose to stop smoking, I may reconsider Celebrity, but with a £200 penalty for a change that I had no choice over, I think it's extremely unlikely! kjwinston Posted April 19, 2008 #44 Share Posted April 19, 2008 Here they go again....Smokers whining and complaining. DuH! It is the lifetime of the years. In most states resturants are going smokless, airports are going smokless, government buildings are going smokless, you can't smoke at work, so what is the big deal. In reality, the rooms will look better, smell better, the curtins will actually keep there color, the wear and tear of Smoke will become less expensive over the years. When they get to shore smokers will light them up I am sure, so don't pick a cruise that does not stop at a lot of ports. Face it Smokers, you are a dying breed. (get it!) Where I live, the Bars now are now smokless. Your real estate is shrinking. It was just a matter of time till one cruise line started this policy. Now, I would not get to mad till you see other cruise lines follow in the footsteps of X. How long will it be till RCCL joins X in this policy. They will see in the 4th Q if maintence of the rooms is better. It always gets down to money. Face it: in the future they most likely have a cruise just for Cigar Smokers, like a non-alcohol cruise. It will become a speciality cruise. Yes, you will still have to smoke outside. Gee, I guess it makes you want to quit....HELLO!
CrystalWater Posted April 19, 2008 #45 Share Posted April 19, 2008 NCL too. Much less then Celebrity. Yes and that is like comparing a Mercedes to a Yugo. rebeccalouise Posted April 19, 2008 #47 Share Posted April 19, 2008 Except I am almost willing to bet that no one would sign up for a "smokers" cruise. Why? Because a ship-filled with smoke doesn't even appeal to smokers. How do I know this? I am a closet smoker. You know a Mom that knows smoking is bad and only smokes in her car when the kids are elsewhere. My kids have never seen me smoke (I have a 20 year old and a 7 year old). It isn't something I am proud of but it does ease my tension after along day at work. So there you have it a smoker that doesn't want to be on a smoking cruise. I have found that if I can't smoke in a public place- that I don't care. I sometimes will go outside and have a puff- but if I couldn't smoke sobeit. I work in a restaurant that just went non-smoking and I can tell you that it looks so nice and crisp and clean in there at night. My work environment is so much nicer. Even smokers don't want to work in a cloud of smoke. Maybe they should just outlaw cigs but the long arm of the tabacco industry isn't going to let that happen! If and when I choose to stop smoking, I may reconsider Celebrity, but with a £200 penalty for a change that I had no choice over, I think it's extremely unlikely! AMEN! My point exactly. I am booked for Hawaii in March 2009. When I contracted with Celebrity while onboard Galaxy in Jan. 2008, I could smoke in my stateroom or on the balcony. I have been 'preaching' for days on this board, that Celebrity should contact each and every passenger that has booked a cruise for after Oct. 1, 2008 and let them personally no of the changes and give them their options as far as deposits, etc. If they can email a survey to the 'majority' of their past passengers, I am sure that they can do the same with the passengers who have booked. We will see what happens. No, I am not letting Celebrity ruin my cruise to Hawaii ( it just might the non smokers who do that), I can make the best of any situation and intend to do my cruise.......then I will consider my options depending on how Celebrity handles this.
