Lushpuppy Posted April 18, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 18, 2008 Well...we have now transferred ALL of our cruises and cancelled all of our celebrity bookings. In actual fact, now that we have made the decision to "jump ship", we are all of us delighted... its funny how one gets tunnel vision and one simply does not look at other lines and facilities available. For the first time in our lives, we are going to be able to cruise by travelling on only ONE flight ... and despite the fact we will miss our Butler,(that is our main miss!) we have secured far nicer and larger suites for less cost, with more facilties for us on board, and even a free open bar (weh heyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!) And having saved that much money, we couldnt care less if we need dine every night in the speciality restaurants on board.. WIN WIN for us! Thank you celebrity..you might just have done us a favor!:D
wolfganghowell Posted April 18, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 18, 2008 Lush, as I mentioned to you on the RCCL board, we have learned to appreciate and acknowledge each line for what they offer us. I wish you well on RCCL. The concierge lounge is indeed a lovely plus and can certainly make up for the missing butler. Our concierge and waiter in the lounge poured a STRONG drink! :)
chessbriar Posted April 18, 2008 #3 Share Posted April 18, 2008 I'm not sure why you are changing, or if you think you are really punishing anyone. You switched from Celebrity to Royal Caribbean. It's like switching from Coke to Sprite. Royal Caribbean International is still getting your dollar regardless of which line you are sailing on. If you are looking to punish RCI, you need to look at Princess, Carnival or Holland America

Rare terrydtx Posted April 18, 2008 #5 Share Posted April 18, 2008 Lush, what will you do when RCI, who owns Celebrity and sets policies for both lines, changes their smoking poilcy to the same as Celebrity?

micmacmissy Posted April 18, 2008 #8 Share Posted April 18, 2008 we have secured far nicer and larger suites for less cost On which line did you find nicer and larger suites for less cost? I have done a TON of comparison shopping, and I find the rates are all very comparable (and for our dates, $400 more per couple than X.) I'm just curious...shoot...if another line is offering bigger and nicer suites for less money, I'll try it! So let us in on the secret!

chessbriar Posted April 18, 2008 #12 Share Posted April 18, 2008 No one is saying you are think. There are just some out there who don't realize they are owned by the same company. There are also smokers out there who don't want to give their money to companies with restrictive smoking policies. It's nice they worked with you and allowed you to switch. RCCL is a good product, but you will notice the differences. We sailed on Explorer back in November and enjoyed the CL. Plus they have great discounts for higher level repeat cruisers. Have fun. wolfganghowell Posted April 18, 2008 #14 Share Posted April 18, 2008 There are also smokers out there who don't want to give their money to companies with restrictive smoking policies. Then those with this mindset are going to run out of companies to do business with. Look, I truly understand both sides of this issue. I'm a non smoker 97% of my life - I only do it when I gamble and drink. :) But it's a fact that more and more cities, states, businesses, restaurants, vacation destinations and cruise ships are going to impose stricter limits. They're not doing it out of spite. It's becoming the way of the world whether any of us think it is controlling or not. Lush and others are doing what they can to accommodate their freedom of choice. He/she is not being a bad guy - it's the ability to vote with your pocketbook. I don't think Celebrity is being a bad guy either. Soon it will probably be a non issue, like it or not. Lush - there are a lot of nice people on RCCL. I'm certain you will have a great time. And if you are on a ship with a specialty restaurant, it will "almost" be X food quality! :D

rebeccalouise Posted April 18, 2008 #17 Share Posted April 18, 2008 What happened to make you despise Celebrity? Honestly, if you look at my cruising past- you will see that I have tried many lines. In fact, Cunard has some really wonderful ships- but after sailing them for the past three times- I am running back to Celebrity. if I wasn't booked on Holland America (a gift from my Dad) I would switch to Celebrity. They have been better than all the lines I've sailed, with the possible exception of Oceania (but their ships are too small for my liking). wolfganghowell Posted April 18, 2008 #18 Share Posted April 18, 2008 Lush is switching lines because of the change in the smoking policy. Quite within their rights to do so. For everyone that switches, there will probably be someone from RCCL or Princess who switches to X. Just the way of the world these days. No one's the bad guy - just people and companies making decisions that are right for them.

Thank you celebrity..you might just have done us a favor!:D Please tell me whether you will be writing a letter to Celebrity to inform them of your dissatisfaction and change in cruiselines. It's all well and good to crow to us how great your cruise future will be on a different cruiseline, but we can't do anything about your dilemma. Each person that is unhappy with the new policy needs to inform Celebrity, just as those who are pleased need to do the same. Full ships make the stockholders happy, and if the ships aren't full, THAT'S when changes are made. I do truly wish you happy future cruises. GramaFran Posted April 19, 2008 #20 Share Posted April 19, 2008 We just cancelled a Sky Suite on the Millie and rebooked on HAL from NZ to Aus. About the same money and a larger suite on HAL, but we will miss the butler. All this because my DH can not smoke on the balcony. He never smoked in cabin or in the casino, but he enjoyed having a smoke with his morning coffee on the balcony or in the bar with a drink. Yes I wrote to Celebrity as to why we are leaving them - note that I don't think they care about one cabin less. Goodbye Celebrity we will miss you, Francine & Pat
kman48 Posted April 19, 2008 #21 Share Posted April 19, 2008 The last cig I smoked, I smoked on Infinity, 01/17/01. I still enjoy a whiff of someone else's, but I am convinced that smoking is unhealthy for the smoker and for other inhalers. I went some years, itentionally smoking only outdoors and generally in situations where it would be less than enjoyable, yet I kept doing it. Now, I am glad I quit, I hope all of you who smoke quit, I am glad =X= will substantially curtail smoking onboard and when you have quit, I hope you come back to Celebrity.
