Live from the Oasis Event in NYC

Recommended Posts

She looks outstanding. Royal Caribbean never fails to bring it on and once again they did it. It will be a long time before anyone tops this.

Agreed! I like the adult atmosphere of the Central Park and the kids atmosphere of the Boardwalk. I love the loft suites and the floating bar :D

I agree with all the posts...this ship is absolutely amazing.....I just can't imagine - Oasis leaves me speechless.

However, like a few of the other posters, I doubt that I will ever cruise on it. First of all, I have heard that the prices will be much much higher and to be around 6000+ people? No thanks, count me out.

So... no aft cabins to be had I guess. Bummer for those who love the aft. Looks like everyone onboard can enjoy the aft's view now!

Are you sure? Check out the AquaTheatre part...it turns around to see the rooms. You don't think any of that are AFT rooms? They aren't traditional aft rooms if they are, but they'd have massive balconies if they are! http://oasisoftheseas.com/video.php Check it at 3 minutes in.

Q: Where do I want to be in July 2010??

A: Doing a B2B on the new Oasis, in a 2 story loft suite!

I love the Radiance class ships, but I think it is time for this OLD dog to learn a new trick, I mean ship!!

Sign me up!:D

I have four corner afts booked, so these were my thoughts exactly. No quiet wake watching on this ship....

I am torn. I would LOVE to see this ship. It does sound amazing. But, since I cruise for a mixture of quiet time (i.e. my wake watching fix) and the activites, I am not sure if this one is for me. Of course, if DH would spring for one of those loft suites, I would give it a try.:) Think we need to go buy lottery tickets!

Well I'm gonna be on it even if I have to save for 2 years to do it.

Liz: change my preference to an Aqua Suite would you!!!!!;)

And for you who think you wouldn't enjoy a larger ship. I can tell you from experience, Liberty seemed to be much less crowded than the smaller RCCL ships I've sailed. There is just so much room you don't notice any crowds. I expect no difference from this ship.

RCCL...I'm up for the pre inaug!!;) ;)

I find some of the comments by the Poo-Poo crowd rather humerous. A ship that holds 6000 passengers can actually feel less crowded than some smaller ships. It all depends on the design which by the way RCI does a better job of than any other cruise line that I have sailed. Anyone ever sailed on a full Conquest class ship with Carnival? Now that's crowded.

Also I give credit to NCL and Royal Caribbean for at least raising the bar on trying to attract more first time cruisers which is the lifeblood of this industry. It cannot grow if this does not happen. When was the last time anyone saw the Carnival Corporation bring on anything innovative? Movies Under the Stars? How many years ago was that? They continue to pump out the same old ship designs over and over. Boring. The Oasis class ships will do very well and they have now once again left their competitors standing around with a puzzled look and scratching their heads. ;)

I think it's a shame. Incredible, yes, but I don't understand why people want to sail on ships like this. It's not even cruising anymore, it's more like a circus. Very disappointing.

No, it's all about innovation and choices. I am one of the ones who have complained about the "bigger is better" mentality that seems to prevail at RC... UNTIL TODAY! What I am seeing is a cruise company that looks to reinvent the cruise experience, or at the very least, offer more options in terms of entertaining you while you are on the cruise. And let's not forget the rising cost of travel. If someone is going to get your hard earned dollar, they're going to have to step it up, and this will be like nothing else on the seas.

Don't like the ports? Who cares! There seems to be so much to do and see on this ship that I doubt we'll see any of the ports, and won't care.

For the naysayers, I will give you this to think about: a cruise is what you make it. Get a balcony cabin facing the sea, go to the show in the theater, the second seating in the dining room, visit the casino, enjoy your favorite beverage at any one of the lounges, and check out the shops. What's the big difference?

I sure hope the economy gets better, or RCCL is going to have a really hard time finding 6000+ people to pay a premium each week to sail on it.

For me, no thanks no matter what the price is, I want to be able to see the ocean when I am on a cruise!

Hi Becci :D

Once we see all the cabins we might have to start a new list. I still want to do B2B...I have always wanted to cruise over Christmas :D

And as for Pre-Inaug ...well what can I say but oh yea, UK one for me though.

Love it! Yes, some of it seems a little "carnival'ish," but it has me wanting more! I'd love to try one of the Aqua Suites... unfortunately, it's probably out of my budget. If there was a way I could pay my mortgage with my RCI credit card, then maybe I could save up...

It's the Mall of America on a ship!!!

My thoughts exactly.

Mall of America meets a carnival by the sea. No thank-you.

I like the feel of more traditional style cruising, where you feel like you're on a ship and have a sense of the water around you.

I'm leaving this new ship to all of you who like this sort of thing. I'll stick with RCCL's other ships or other cruise lines that offer a more traditional style of cruising.

Not criticizing other's enthusiasm, but its just not my style. Maybe if I'm lucky, so many people will be drawn to this ship, that the prices on other ships will come down a bit.

Hi Liz,

Where will the pre-inaugural be? Southampton? I hope to God it is because not being a "flyer" that will be my only chance to sample the wonderful Oasis. Would I stand any chance of getting on the pre-aug? What's the criteria for getting an invite?

Gail,

PS Loved the jacket :D :)

We would all love to know the criteria for an invitiation. Some travel agencies will give some invities to it's best customers.

I don't know if there will be an european pre aug, though since this ship is targeted for the carribean.

Here is RCI's UK press release.

IT’S A GROUNDBREAKING DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Boardwalk and Central Park Are Cruise Industry Firsts For Royal Caribbean International,

While Signature Royal Promenade Venue Evolves

Miami, June 18, 2008 -- Royal Caribbean International continues its tradition of cruise ship innovation with Oasis of the Seas, truly an architectural and nautical marvel with spectacular onboard elements and features never before seen on a cruise ship. Through its unique neighbourhood concept, seven areas of the ship will provide vacationers with the opportunity to seek out relevant experiences based on their personal style, preference or mood. The following highlights three of the seven neighbourhoods onboard Oasis of the Seas:

BOARDWALK

This breathtaking space was inspired by both the seaside piers that dot the coast of England and the nostalgic boardwalks such as Coney Island. Boardwalk will be an area for the entire family to enjoy together, whether young or just young at heart. The elements of the Boardwalk will be a dynamic way to engage families in classic fun with a colourful original carousel as well as eateries, retail outlets and carnival games. Signature elements of the Boardwalk include:

A remarkable outdoor venue at the stern of Oasis of the Seas with a backdrop of the ocean across the horizon, AquaTheater will be an amphitheatre-style space celebrating water with a full-spectrum of day and night options including professional diving and theatrical performances. The first of its kind and the most technologically-advanced area of the ship, AquaTheater will be a complete sensory experience that plays on the element of surprise, as the latest technology and design features amaze audience members.

The centrepiece of Boardwalk will be a one-of-a-kind carousel – the first-ever at sea. Hand-crafted from poplar wood especially for Royal Caribbean International, the full-sized, traditional carousel will take six to eight months to complete. It will feature 21 figures suspended from stainless steel poles showcasing a time-honoured menagerie of animals such as zebras, giraffes and lions, alongside a variety of hand-painted horses including a princess horse and a crowned frog prince. The lead horse, customarily the fanciest horse of the carousel, will be adorned with Royal Caribbean International logos, while a single chariot will serve as a stationary seat for two. The frame of the carousel will have a red and golden yellow facade, turn-of-the-century artwork scenery panels, and LED lights that twinkle during the day and night.

Ÿ A thrilling new feature, a zip line will be suspended nine decks above Boardwalk, giving adventurers a birds-eye view of the action below, as the rider speeds diagonally across the open air atrium – a distance of more than 82 feet (25 meters).

Ÿ Six AquaTheater Suites, 221 Boardwalk view balcony staterooms, and eight Boardwalk view window staterooms.

Additional features of Boardwalk:

Ÿ Five shops including:

o Madame Zamara’s – Psychic and Tattoo Parlor

o Smile – novelty photo shop

o Candy Beach – specialty candy store

o Star Pier – teen retail

o Specialty children’s retail

Ÿ Five restaurants/bars:

o Johnny Rockets

o Ice Cream Parlor

o Boardwalk Donut Shop

o Seafood Shack

o The Boardwalk Bar

ROYAL PROMENADE

Ÿ A natural evolution of the signature Royal Promenade featured on Voyager- and Freedom-class ships, the new design found on Oasis of the Seas will allow guests to have a physical connection with the neighbourhood above – Central Park – as natural light cascades down from the sky. Giant glass-arched skylights, the Crystal Canopies, form a sculptured roof that will look up into Central Park and the sky beyond.

Ÿ The unique Rising Tide bar – the first moving bar at sea – is an engineering feat that will span three decks and allow cruisers to enjoy a cocktail as they slowly descend from Central Park and arrive into the Royal Promenade.

Ÿ Suspended above the Globe and Atlas Pub, is an unfurling bridge on hinged hydraulics which will create a spectacular, surprise element for guests. Incorporated into the pub’s facade, a giant copper globe “cracks open” as part of its unique construction and extends over the Royal Promenade as a bridge platform. A focal point of the Royal Promenade, the bridge will be approximately 10 feet above and adjacent to the entertainment area for performances.

Ÿ Located towards the aft of the Royal Promenade, a mezzanine level will allow for sweeping views of the promenade and features the cruise line’s Schooner Bar, Adventures with Royal Caribbean International and the line’s loyalty member club, the Diamond Club.

Ÿ Another first for the cruise line, the Royal Promenade will serve as the entry point for all guests embarking on Oasis of the Seas, rather than the traditional lower decks. A vast tree sculpture by international artist Larry Kirkland serves as an impressive welcoming spot.

Additional features of Royal Promenade:

Ÿ 18 Promenade View Staterooms

Ÿ Eight retail outlets including

o Focus – photo shop and gallery

o Regalia – fine jewellery and gifts

o Solera – perfume and cosmetic shop

o Prince & Greene – Get Out There store

o The Shop – logo and souvenir shop

o Port Merchants – liquors and sundries

o Willow – accessories shop

o A Close Shave – men’s salon

Ÿ Nine restaurants and bars including:

o Sorrento’s Pizzeria

o Mondo Coffee Bar

o Café Promenade – signature café

o Schooner Bar

o On Air Club – Karaoke bar

o Boleros – Latin dance club

o Rising Tide – moving bar

o Globe and Atlas Pub

o Champagne Bar

Central Park

Royal Caribbean International will bring the best of the land to sea with Central Park, a revolutionary design in which the centre of the ship opens to the sky and features lush, tropical grounds spanning more than the length of a football field. An exquisite public gathering place featuring serene pathways, seasonal flower gardens and canopy trees, Central Park will provide cruisers with more choices in a unique outdoor space. One of the ship’s most ground-breaking spaces, this new concept was the first of seven neighbourhoods to be unveiled on Oasis of the Seas.

Additional features of Central Park:

Ÿ Three retail outlets including:

o Parkside Gallery – art gallery

o Picture This – portrait studio

o Specialty Retail

Ÿ Six restaurants/bars:

o 150 Central Park

o Chops Grille

o Antonio’s Table

o Central Park Café

o Vintages

o Canopy Bar

When she launches in late 2009, Oasis of the Seas will be the largest and most revolutionary cruise ship in the world. An architectural marvel at sea, she will span 16 decks, encompass 220,000 gross registered tons (GRT), carry 5,400 guests at double occupancy, and feature 2,700 staterooms. Oasis of the Seas will be the first ship to tout the cruise line’s new neighbourhood concept of seven distinct themed areas, which includes Central Park, Boardwalk, and the Royal Promenade. The ship will sail from her home port of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Additional information is available at www.oasisoftheseas.com.

Royal Caribbean International is a global cruise brand with 21 ships currently in service and two under construction. The line also offers unique cruisetour vacations in Alaska, Asia, Australia, Canada, Europe, South America and New Zealand.

Looks like they're not offering any discounts -

"Customers are prepared to pay a premium to go on the latest and greatest ships"

And to pay a premium price to see

 Labadee, Haiti; Falmouth - I don't think so.

But if you need to see what's in store - take a look

So, I wonder if the living area downstairs has an ocean balcony and the bedroom upstairs has the balcony overlooking Central Park! That's the best of both worlds!

OMG!!! Sign me up:D :D If I get a double decker cabin, I will tattoo OASIS on my butt!
