I'm so happy that you are enjoying your cruising experiences. We generally do it for the journey and not necessarily the destination.

I wish we could afford more cruises than one a year (we did 2 once) but we are on a fixed income so must watch our pennies. However, we were on the Caribbean Princess in September and the itch is still there. As I might have mentioned, we were on her 10 years ago. Compared to the Royal last year, it brought us back down to earth, lol, but I found that I liked the entertainer and his music and background so I want to get back to finish our conversation. He's on his break right now with his wife and small child-and other family members. There's always a draw to each ship.

I had a friend who only cruised Crystal and never go off the ship.

Hi,

We have had conversations about living on a cruise ship. lol. We normally don't go on excursions and have cut back on buy souvenirs for everybody. If we buy, it's for Christmas presents-like a shot glass! :D

Our big temptation is the casino. We would have to have the doors locked at all times. Even going in "for a few minutes" ends up being a couple of hours or over an evening.Every day. We've had some wins, and brought home cash, but that was to pay back the credit card. Do we spend in the thousands? No, but enough to blow our budget, sometimes.

We have the same conversation every time we go about staying out of there but....it's our entertainment while other people spend on specialty restaurants, soda and coffee cards, excursions.

And, we've stayed on the ship more the last few years.

 

Cruising is wonderful. We thoroughly enjoy it and it takes us back to the "What ever happened to..." because we've lost track of different entertainers and friends over the years.

 

We'll be back on a ship before we know it!!

My friend and I just got back (I had never done a cruise shorter than 7 days) on November 6th, off of the Carnival Sensation.

 

It was an older ship, and my friend had never cruised before. I had read quite a bit of "negative" about this ship, but we found it to be great, but with a lot of purple color. :) My friend didn't want to leave, and I ask her if she was hooked? She said she couldn't wait to cruise again. :)

I'm glad she enjoyed herself. Once one catches the bug and has a good experience, the magic of it all is inside and then the search for the next cruise begins. Welcome Aboard!! :)

The entertainer I enjoyed on our Sept. cruise rejoins the ship on Saturday for another short run, so I will be following the threads and watch the departure-and, the arrival back, if I can get up that early. :D. It's called "virtual cruising". lol.

Hi,

 

My first cruise was on the (now defunct) Regency Cruise Line's Regent Sun, with my mom and our travel agent, which sailed from NYC October 9. 1994 and picked us up at the now-closed Philadelphia Cruise Terminal on October 10, 1994. I had a blast on the cruise because I didn't have a set "to do list" and each day did what seemed interesting. I even lost money in the casino, cursing the whole time because I didn't win anything. My mom and I met a nice couple from Pomona, NJ. It was great.

We sailed on the Regent Star and loved it. It had been the Statendam and the public rooms and staterooms were beautifully done. Lots of wood.

We were on the Statendam in 2001 pre 9-11. A northbound Alaska cruise. She was around 6 years old then and held about 1200 PAX. She was beautifully decorated too. Not only lots fo wood but many gorgeous antiques. Only the suites had balconies on her. We were in an ocean view; but we had this huge picture window with a ledge that we could sit on and look out to whale watch. Our room was big too around 200 to 250 square feet I wonder if you were on the same ship? of course you may mean an older Statendam.

The one I was on was Statendam IV which was in service from 1956 to 1982 but I think all of the HAL ships are beautifully done...still.

RCCL Sun Viking in 1985 for my honeymoon. I believe it is somewhere in china now. 10 day Caribbean, inside cabin on deck two...ah the memories.

We will now be celebrating our 30th anniversary on the Radiance in Alaska!!

Our honeymoon was our first cruise. April 20 1997 sail date on RCCL's Monarch of the Seas - Southern Caribbean. We loved it, but itinerary busy. Since then, we've chosen cruises with less stops and also learned what islands we care to get off for and which ones we just stay on the ship for - and enjoy less crowds all day!

First was 3 nights on an 8 pax former PT Boat through the Yasawa Islands on Fiji. Next came several on the Istra and Dalmatijia (Yugoslav Jadrolinijia Lines). They were 5.500 GRT and sailed from Guadaloupe and Martinique using air with Air France Paris to Jfk to port. Those were in the early '70's. Next a 14 day on the Southward in'75. Still cruising and loving it. Be on the Reflection Jan31, '15.

Our first cruise was for our honeymoon. We did a 7 night cruise on the Grand Princess in 2001. Since that cruise, we have been on 10 cruises, and our 11th is scheduled for a 15 day Hawaiian cruise March 22, 2015. We are actually super excited to go on the same ship that we did for our honeymoon.

I love the Grand it's a wonderful ship.

First cruise in 1978, Costa Line Falvia....cruise out of Venice, Italy. What a difference between the cruise ships of then and now. I think I have read that she has since burned and sank. What memories.

For my then very young husband and me, our first cruise was on the Costa Carla C in 1975, embarking from San Juan for a week in the Caribbean. I still remember the beautiful midnight departure and exploring the lovely, undeveloped Islands we visisted, including Martinique. The ship was small, 20,000 tons, and decorated with lots of velvet in jewel tones. This sailing was so long ago that the toga parties, which I understand are now part of Costa cruises, were non-existant. The crew was first rate, and the Italian food outstanding. We had a terrific time and remain hooked on cruising. Here she is:

We are off on yet another sailing this fall on the Noordam, and our son, who also loves cruising, will be joining us.

Another Costa convert here. First cruise a single share on SS (steam Ship) Costa Riviera.

Still the most fun cruise I've been on. Roommate was a dud. I think it was about 1987.

Our first cruise was Admiral Cruise's Emerald Seas in the mid 1980's. My husband and I plus our four young children in two inside cabins. We've all loved cruising ever since! A family of modest income, nevertheless we manage to set aside money for cruising as often as we can, mostly short weekend trips since we live in Florida.

Our first cruise was on RCCL's Song of America. Beautiful small ship..intimate and never crowded. Loved that little ship! Only 93 ft beam and 705 long. perfect size
