Not sure where to post this - wear wedding ring??

Like the title says, I am not sure what board to post this on. I might post this on the cruise fashion and beauty (or whatever it is) as well.

Do you ladies (or for men - do your wives) wear your wedding ring? Mine are soldered together so it's not like I can just wear the band. I am really worried about something happening to it. We are by no means rich, but dated for 6 years before getting married and my now DH saved for years to get me a beautiful ring. The center stone is a carat and down both sides of the ring as well as the front and back profile sides are covered in diamonds. So on 3 sides of the ring it is all diamonds. THe band is also a band with all diamonds. So at times I do feel it is flashy. I love it none the less! Again - we aren't rich but he saved for years and bought it in full knowing I would wear it for the rest of my life and wanted something he could feel proud of giving me for years to come.

So should I wear it on the cruise or keep it at home? I am not sure if I would feel differently if it was just a plain band or a band with one stone, ya know?

If you would be heartbroken if something happened to it, then leave it in a safe at home.

I don't usually wear my engagement ring when we travel, but wear either a plain band or an anniversary ring that I have. I was once told that rings fall off more easily if your hand is in salt water, so have always left my ring at home because of that. Don't know if it is true or not, but I'd rather not find out!

EDIT to add: Whether you wear your ring on vacation or not, I hope you have an insurance rider for your ring!

Maybe part of my problem is that this is our honeymoon cruise. We were married in July, but waited until March because that is my spring break (teacher here!) and wanted to go when it was freezing cold here. So I feel like if we tell people we are on our honeymoon they will look for or ask to see my ring (for some reason - that is everyone's first action after I told them I was engaged or recently married!!!).

I believe that there is sentiment attached to any wedding and/or engagement ring, whether plain or jeweled. I wear my regular rings while on the ship and have a more inexpensive band or ring which I wear on my ring finger when I go on shore. I don't feel naked, but it's only losing $100 band and not something someone would single me out to rob over. My husband leaves his band (which has several nice sized diamonds) in the ship safe. The ship is safe as long as you leave your rings in the safe when you are not wearing them. Use good sense when going ashore. Other than feeling lost without a ring, both my husband and I know we are married.:):)

Enjoy your cruise and showing off your lovely wedding set.

I would wear mine. I actually have a couple od carats on my finger and wear it. Actually, one of the carats I got when we renewed our vows on the ship for our 10th. So at that time, I actually had one loose when we boared prior to the ceremony. If you are worried about loosing it on an excursion then you can leave it in the ship's safe. I do not take my rings off. so I would feel naked without them. Our family usually sails another cruiseline, but it would be the same regardless of which one we took. This is just my opinion.;)

Yup, totally agree with this.

My DW's ring lost it's center stone. Our home owners insurance covered the loss. At the time we got married, we didn't have a lot of "extra" money, but we did have our mothers' rings to use to get her ring made. The stone wasn't all that beautiful. When the stone was lost I got her a larger, higher quality replacement stone because I could afford it.

We purchased an alternate wedding band for me to wear on our vacations. I didn't want to lose my ring in the ocean somewhere, or even risk possibly getting robbed (in Mexico). Losing my alternate band vs my actual wedding ring (even though its insured) wouldn't bother me so much as losing my actual ring (that was specifically made for me). But I do understand you not wanting to take it off. Like I said above, everyone is different regarding this subject. Congrats to you, and enjoy your honeymoon!

Yes, we have insurance on my rings and his! So IF anything were to happen we are completely covered. Emotionally though - I don't know if I could ever forgive myself!

On our honeymoon cruise I wore my rings because I just couldn't imagine not having them on. I felt completely safe in all the ports but just in case I was prepared to "turn the ring around" so the diamonds were underneath in my hand instead of on top for everyone to see.

Just make sure you have insurance on the ring.

The only time someone make a comment about my ring was one night in the Casino. We were at the craps table and had gotten to know the "dealers" pretty well since that was were we spent every evening. After our stop in St. Thomas they were asking me about the new ring I had just purchased and asking if I got a good deal or not when one of the employees made a comment about how much my wedding ring must have been. I was a little uncomfortable because he was really curious as to how much it cost, but I wasn't uncomfortable in a way that I felt threatened, I just felt funny discussing how much it cost knowing that many of them come from poverty stricken parts of the world. Make sense?

Have a great honeymoon.

Of COURSE you wear your ring! Jeez--it's not like someone is waiting to take it once you step off the ship! Unless you're wearing the Hope Diamond, wear your jewelry!

It's sort of like having nice silver and china, and never using it! What's the point in having it?

And although some of the islands you'll visit are not as "affluent" as the USA, they are not out to take from you what you have!

Not only do I never take my rings off and they go where I go, but I'm a gem collector and bring almost my entire collection with me onboard. The traveling jewel chest goes in the safe with all the other important stuff. I only take it out to get out my choice for the evening. It can be locked as well, but don't see the need with the great safes in our cabins.

I have a pretty big ring, but I always take it with me. For shore excursions, I just wear an inexpensive plain gold band that I have for when I play sports, go to the gym, hike, etc. It is more comfortable to wear when I am being active, and I don't have to worry about it in case something happened to it. Plus, when we are in not so nice countries, I don't feel like I am yelling "rob me".

But on the ship I wear my diamonds. In fact I bring quite a bit of my good jewels to wear on formal nights, etc. I have them, so I feel that I should get some use out of them.

I can't wear rings anymore, as I get rashes from them. True!:p Quit laughing those that know me!!:p But that leads to other problems, because guys think I'm single.

As for your problem, bring them, and if you feel uncomfortable in port with them, by all means put them in your safe.;) If I did wear my rings, I would probably leave them in the safe on port days, just because I do really active-type excursions.

If you are really uncomfortable, I would get a not-too-expensive plain gold/white gold band and leave your good rings home in a safe deposit box...or at least leave it in the safe on the ship..(i also think that they offer safe deposit boxes at guest relations as well...)

Sure, you waited a long time for your rings...but i'm not sure i would want to worry about losing it on vacation....

Congratulations by the way.....

By all means wear it on the cruise. My wife takes the rings off and puts them in the safe when we go ashore at non us ports.

That's kind of funny. I wear mine always, turn it to my palm if I am concerned in the street. My husband wore a ring too until it was ripped from his finger- at a traffic light about 3 blocks from home- here in the good old US of A.

I used to wear my rings. I just recently lost some weight and I lost a ring! It just fell off...I knew it was loose, but never thought it would fall off. After that happened I took off my wedding ring. I now wear a $10 fake diamond. I will get my ring resized, but for now, I'm wearing a fake ring. It is funny how many compliments I get on my 3 diamond ring!
