trvlagt6108 Posted October 4, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 4, 2006 As a TA, I had a terrible experience with Berkeley for one of my customers. I wouldn't use them again. Just my opinion.

Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted October 4, 2006 #7 Share Posted October 4, 2006 But...if you did not book your air through Princess, does Berkeley Care reimburse your flights in the event you cancel for a covered reason?? Inquiring minds...
willysgrandma Posted October 4, 2006 #8 Share Posted October 4, 2006 But...if you did not book your air through Princess, does Berkleey Care reimburse your flights in the event you cancel for a covered reason?? No. You only paid for insurance for the cruise, not for the air, if you did not purchase the air through Princess.
Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted October 4, 2006 #9 Share Posted October 4, 2006 Thanks for that response. In that event, when I don't book air through Princess (which is almost always the case, except for respositioning cruises), it is much less expensive to get a policy with better coverage using www.insuremytrip.com. Of course, the advantage of Princess' travel care is that you can cancel for any reason and get future travel credit, and that it is not price dependant on age. kendon Posted October 4, 2006 #10 Share Posted October 4, 2006 !00% satisfaction here also. Unfortunately we have used them all too often for either accidents or kids illnesses. I had a pretty freaky stingray experience/injury on a private excursion and they paid up right away. The insurance was always provided through Princess who uses Berkely. berkely Posted October 16, 2006 #11 Share Posted October 16, 2006 has anyone ever used them?cheryl These guys suck. They are giving me such a runaround about how they never received this and never received that while they sent me a letter previously saying they did receive my forms. I will never use them again ever!

donna5 Posted October 16, 2006 #15 Share Posted October 16, 2006 I feel it does not help anyone in the least when you say negative things about a company without telling us what the circumstances are? It may be that you purchased something with not knowing what you were actually getting or did not file a claim properly. So if you are going to complain about the insurance company, then please let us know what happened so we can all make our decisions on factual info. starchild Posted January 31, 2007 #16 Share Posted January 31, 2007 My parents booked Berkley Care on their last cruise. My mother ended up in a hospital in St. Maarten. A company called On-Call International handled communication with the family and arranged for a nurse to escort my mother back to the US. My mother was cleared by the local doctor to fly on Friday; On-Call said that the nurse would be there on Monday. She showed up at the hospital unannounced on Sunday. They told me her return would be on a commercial flight on Monday. Then they told me they were sending an air ambulance to bring her back on Tuesday. The air ambulance would not take my mother even after On-Call promised me that transportation that day would be a sure thing. My mother died that night. When I got to St. Maarten the next day, the On-Call crew had gone home. Local laws in St. Maarten did not allow us to make arrangements concurrently. So the local coroner has to get a promise of payment from On-Call for repatriation of the remains before he could file for the death certificate. The time it took for both parties to fax paperwork back and forth meant we could not fly Mom home on Friday, and had to wait until Monday. I spent $1400 in airfare, $1000 on a hotel room and between the hotel phone and home phone about $700 in phone calls. Not to mention my father's return ticket, which should be reimbursable. Now I cannot file a medical claim with Berkley until I file claims with Mom's primary coverage. When I called to ask if I could file a partial claim for the room, phone and airline ticket, I was told to file everyting at the same time. That is my experience so far with Berkley Care Insurance and affiliates. I leave you to decide for yourself.
star gazer Posted January 31, 2007 #17 Share Posted January 31, 2007 Last November, we cancelled a trip because of a medical emergency. Berkeley settled our claim about 60 days later and paid us $8 over our fare to my surprise. I had no problem with Berkeley; my hassle was with the hospital releasing the records to them. Rare Coral Posted January 31, 2007 #18 Share Posted January 31, 2007 I usually do not buy them because I book my own air and they will only cover air purchased by Princess.
Texcruise Posted January 31, 2007 #19 Share Posted January 31, 2007 Berkeley Care travel insurance is the insurance that we bought for our very first cruise which was on on Regent/Radisson. Cancelled our cruise one day prior to boarding due to a death in the family and had absolutely no problems with Berkeley. We called them, they sent us paper work, mailed completed paper work back and we were paid 100% within a few weeks. Great service.
iamtrustworthy Posted January 31, 2007 #20 Share Posted January 31, 2007 has anyone ever used them?cheryl Hi Cheryl, Berkeley Care isn't a bad company, but you should shop elsewhere. You'll get better plans for a lot less money. Go to www.google.com and search for "trip insurance". You'll find some good comparison sites that offer reputable companies. I hope this helps. rbslos18 Posted February 1, 2007 #21 Share Posted February 1, 2007 I believe it is secondary coverage in several areas. I prefer Travelex--It is primary coverage and a lower price.
FuzzyMelton Posted February 1, 2007 #22 Share Posted February 1, 2007 Go here to purchase your travel insurance. http://www.statravel.com/cps/rde/xchg/us_division_web_live/hs.xsl/travelinsurance.htm It is the cheapest and some of the best and is backed by Berkley. 1/2 price from other sites and the same basic coverage. Did lots of research before I bought, and this insurance looked like a Best Buy. Good luck and hopefully it will be money well spent.
Diane F Posted February 1, 2007 #23 Share Posted February 1, 2007 I compared prices with Travelex, which I have used before, and StaTravel.Statravel was quite a bit lower for what I was comparing. Will probably go with it.Not sure if it is primary or secondary.I have heard both.Anyone know for sure?
