Room Service Rocks Posted November 17, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 17, 2014 Has anyone bought the gold chains by the inch? Are they a good buy? I know the posted price is for the fine and thin links. But are the bigger and more intricate designs worth the up sell?
irishnyc Posted November 17, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 17, 2014 It's "gold" by the inch. Know what I'm saying?
donaldsc Posted November 17, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 17, 2014 They are cheap although when you get done not as cheap as you expected. They may be worth what you paid for them. Do remember that they are gold plate and may have 20 cents worth of gold on them as you can plate gold really thin. DON
Rare Keith1010 Posted November 17, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 17, 2014 This is one you get what you pay for. It's not a bargain unless you want something relatively cheap in quality. Keith
dorisis Posted November 17, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 17, 2014 The gold plating wears off pretty fast.
Trainer Posted November 17, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 17, 2014 I've bought one or two of these. They are not so bad to just wear once in a while instead of taking "real" jewelry. I leave most of my better stuff at home when I travel and this not-real gold looks fine. I did break a clasp once and it was fixed immediately at no charge on my next cruise. I wouldn't wear it in the water or shower or wear it every day.
momoftwinteens Posted November 17, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 17, 2014 I have a beautiful bracelet from my cruise last year that I love to wear. It has little starfish all over it and I get lots of complements on it. I haven't had any problems and they come with a lifetime guarantee. Of course, that may mean another cruise to get a replacement, if I should need it :D
paul929207 Posted November 17, 2014 #8 Share Posted November 17, 2014 OP, Welcome to Cruise Critic. As you consider the answers above, keep in mind that you did not specify a cruise line. So each person is responding based on their experience on the line(s) they have traveled. The answer to your question may vary by line.

But are the bigger and more intricate designs worth the up sell? only if you like green skin and allergic reactions. it is not even worthy of the name costume jewelry, which is at least usually hypoallergenic. you would get more return on your money if you lost it all in the Casino. at least then you'd have some entertainment out of the deal. trev71 Posted November 17, 2014 #11 Share Posted November 17, 2014 My parents bought me one when they went on a Cruise back in 2003, I still wear it once in a while. I wouldnt say they are horrible they are just cheapish. I wouldnt buy one now or buy one as a gift. But i do know my wife got a small braclet before but i wouldnt go over board with it
