Hi Everyone,

We are booked on a cruise out of Venice 1st June. We are staying at the J W Marriott hotel in Venice on a one night pre cruise deal. We have to make our own way to the hotel when we land. Can anyone recommend the cheapest/fastest way to reach the hotel?

Thank you in advance for of any replies.

Cheapest: bus from the airport to the terminus, vaporetto to St Mark's Square and free shuttle to the hotel island. Pre-purchase tickets on-line and collect from the machine in the luggage hall in the airport. Bus departs just outside the airport.(You can add all sorts of visits pre-paid to the ticket, too).

Fastest: water taxi from the airport.

Your choice would depend also on how much luggage you will have with you!

For what it's worth, for one night I would not stay there. Although it's a very nice hotel, it is too far away to be good for a one night stay. By the time you get there and get back, you don't have much time and definitely would not see any of the major Venice sights.

Fastest from the airport is a water taxi (if you pre book about 110 to 120 Euro). And riding the waves is fun (all water taxi drivers think they are the Italian version of Mario Andretti).

The cheapest is via the standard "water bus" (vaporetto) and then free hotel shuttle from St. Mark. However, all in all this can take you 3 or more hours if you are lucky and with luggage can be a chore.

Hotel is very nice and on a private island. However, depending on when you arrive in Venice, you might not have much time to see the town.

Last year, we arrived in the morning around 9...where at the hotel around 11, checked in at noon (lucky) and then took the hotel shuttle to venice around 2.

The next day is basically shot with transfer from the hotel to the ship. If you arrive later in the afternoon, there will not be that much time visiting Venice as the trip from the hotel to St. Mark will take about 40 min each way. Nice boat ride, but that's it.

Thanks everybody for your replies. We are booked into that hotel as part of the deal. We land at about 1pm, so we may get a few hours of Venice in hopefully?

We stayed there pre cruise the first summer the hotel opened. It wasn't the best time due to snags and air con issues, but that's all addressed now.

The hotel is lovely. We were upgraded to a junior suite and it really was special.

The grounds are very peaceful and lovely to walk around.

You should be able to take the hotel water taxi across in plenty time . Also lovely sunset views from rooftop pool, restruant and bar area. Have a great time. Jean.

Agree that the JW Marriott isn't the best choice for a single overnight, but it IS a nice property. As I recall, the shuttle takes around 20 minutes to get to San Marco - I'd suggest taking a picture of the shuttle schedule so you know what time they run.

If you get back early enough, there's a nice rooftop bar/restaurant with great views. Somewhat pricey, but ya gotta pay for that view, I guess.
