Lachase Posted January 27, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Considering the latest viral outbreak, thinking about how to avoid germs on my upcoming cruise. Was wondering about picking up some Lysol before boarding and spraying down my cabin. Is it allowed to bring aerosols such as Lysol onboard? Ideas for germ prevention onboard? LBeeE Posted January 27, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 27, 2014 We did!!! We took lysol wipes, the ones with peroxide, because I thought I read they kill Noro. Another option is hospital grade wipes like CaviWipes. We wiped our entire cabin top to bottom, not just the light switches and remote, but EVERYTHING. Hubs and I tag-teamed it, and wiped everything in site the minute we got into the room. Even the balcony furniture and handrail. I traveled with a low immune function and picc line in my arm for medications. Had no problems at all, but then there wasn't an outbreak on our cruise. However, it was an over-capacity sailing, by like 500 people, so it was a big ship, over crowded, and we didn't get sick. Also we took foaming hand sanitizer and used it after touching the menu in the MDR and the serving utensils in the WJ.
At Sea 4Ever Posted January 27, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Considering the latest viral outbreak, thinking about how to avoid germs on my upcoming cruise. Was wondering about picking up some Lysol before boarding and spraying down my cabin. Is it allowed to bring aerosols such as Lysol onboard? Ideas for germ prevention onboard? We always bring Lysol and wipe down our cabin. Bring a small container of dish soap as well to clean your soda cup. The casino, computer lab, bathrooms ,and WJ are all places where hand washing is super important! The other important thing is wash your hands often and watch what you use that other people touch. The buffet is dangerous if folks don't obey simple rules. Children are the worst. :)
time4u2go Posted January 27, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 27, 2014 For those that wipe down their cabins...I'm curious...do you do this every day, since the room steward and perhaps the minibar inspector come in and touch things every day (twice a day)? LBeeE Posted January 27, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Time4u2go: YES, we did, constant wiping of our cabin and bathroom. But as I said, I am immuno-compromised, so it was important for us. We even wiped our seapasses, camera, cellphones, zippers on backpacks, straps on bags, sunglasses, anything of ours we touched while out and about on the ship, etc. in case we picked up germs and deposited them on our belongings. YES, EVERYTHING, DAILY.
drarill Posted January 27, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 27, 2014 We also bring the lysol wipes!! and try to wipe everything, including the TV remote control!:)
LBeeE Posted January 27, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 27, 2014 Lachase asked for tips on staying well. We also took 2 antibacterial handsoaps for the bathroom, rather than relying on the bar soap provided. I also covered the sofa in our stateroom with a pool towel before sitting or laying down on it. Touched elevator buttons with knuckle or elbow.
pxy cda Posted January 27, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 27, 2014 http://http://www.lysol.com/cleaning-products/disinfectant-sprays/disinfectant-spray-travel-size I take this and spray the bathroom daily (also good for DH's usual BM). I also Spray the duvet and pillows and replace the cases. I also wipe down all hard surfaces with wipes. I avoid the buffet except for the omelette bar in morning where I get my eggs. Rare LMaxwell Posted January 28, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 28, 2014 The wipes aren't effective against Noro. Apparently Type III Lysol spray is. Not sure exactly what it is or where available. http://www.lysol.com/lysol-community/conversation/lysol-and-norovirus-3424
ehfl Posted January 28, 2014 #11 Share Posted January 28, 2014 You can bring it, but Lysol doesn't kill Norovirus. All it does is weaken your immune system's response to other pathogens.
nanner10 Posted January 28, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) I bring Clorox wipes. Just be careful not to get it on your clothes. Edited January 28, 2014 by nanner10
CRUIS4ME Posted January 28, 2014 #13 Share Posted January 28, 2014 I also thought I read some time ago that antibacterial wipes with alcohol do not kill norovirus but Clorox wipes are better for that bug. last year there was an entire thread whereby it was discussed. Robinola Posted January 28, 2014 #14 Share Posted January 28, 2014 Always! And don't listen to those that say don't. If they want a dirtier cabin to build up their amunity...poor power to 'em! Personally, the cleaner the better for me.

dibh1129 Posted January 28, 2014 #16 Share Posted January 28, 2014 We are on the 1/31 explorer sailing. I just ordered the medical grade stuff. I plan to decon our rooms (4 rooms - we are traveling with family) as we get on. After extensive research Regular Clorox and Lysol are useless. You need the medical grade stuff with bleach. momto2js Posted January 28, 2014 #20 Share Posted January 28, 2014 I found Lysol to be really effective to control the ordor from ds' s shoes. His feet without socks made his shoes unbearable in the small cabin!! Sent from my SCH-I535 using Forums mobile app

kruzerci Posted January 28, 2014 #23 Share Posted January 28, 2014 I bring a mini bottle of Lysol and Clorox wipes. Wipe down all the door handles, drawers, switches, remote, etc. Never had Noro or been sick onboard. I don't know if it has anything to do with our personal "sanitizing", but it couldn't hurt! zoncom Posted January 28, 2014 #25 Share Posted January 28, 2014 Most important areas to wipe down are bath stall and public bathroom door knobs since NORO is derived from fecal matter.I try to use my cabin bathroom. Celebrity even has little towels by Ladies bath exits so no need to touch infected door knobs.
