cruisinrealtor Posted December 19, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 19, 2014 When booking your cruise and your cabin do you choose port or starboard Side and why? We are going to book the western on the oasis.
Clarea Posted December 19, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 19, 2014 Normally does not matter to us, unless we're on a transatlantic, in which case we like the sunny side.
SPacificbound Posted December 19, 2014 #3 Share Posted December 19, 2014 For us it is rear facing afts. :)
Justmekaren918 Posted December 19, 2014 #4 Share Posted December 19, 2014 Really enjoyed aft.
Grandma Dazzles Posted December 19, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 19, 2014 Now that there is no smoking on balconies, which I think is great, would tend to stay away from the port side outdoor smoking area. Would not want a balcony directly under that area. Agree about the sunny side on a TA. Also like aft balconies. Desert Cruizers Posted December 19, 2014 #6 Share Posted December 19, 2014 Port, Starboard really makes no differance to us, but usually book Mid ship Port Side. When I am taking pictures, I merely go to the side I need the picture from. Agree for a TA, the sunny side.
Mjoellnir Posted December 19, 2014 #7 Share Posted December 19, 2014 What would you suggest on a trip Fort Lauderdale - Falmouth - Labadee?
Clarea Posted December 19, 2014 #8 Share Posted December 19, 2014 (edited) What would you suggest on a trip Fort Lauderdale - Falmouth - Labadee? No side preference for us. I'd take whichever stateroom is center hump, if available, else closest to either the forward or aft elevator lobby. I'd also avoid being right under the pool deck. bigque Posted December 19, 2014 #9 Share Posted December 19, 2014 I always do starboard center hump... No real particular reason other than I just like that location and the view forward and aft.
cb at sea Posted December 19, 2014 #10 Share Posted December 19, 2014 The ship will generally try and switch up which side is next to land, when possible, so everyone gets a "view". Truthfully, since you'll be in a harbor, there are views everywhere...you are not "looking out to sea" per se.
papaflamingo Posted December 19, 2014 #11 Share Posted December 19, 2014 When booking your cruise and your cabin do you choose port or starboard Side and why? We are going to book the western on the oasis. Cabin location on the best deck is paramount over "side." If possible I usually book Starboard side as, in my experience, the ship usually docks starboard side to the pier. But that has been very hit or miss lately. Had a port side cabin on Celebrity a few weeks ago and we had the best views in every port. Sometimes that was pier side, sometimes not. As for Ft. Lauderdale, the ships dock starboard side to the pier. So if you want to sit on your balcony and watch the action you can. But for sailaway the best side is the port side as it goes by all the big homes. Labadee is hit of miss. Some ships dock bow first giving the best views of the island to the starboard side. Last cruise (Celebrity) we backed in and the views out the port side were fantastic. So, the best thing to do is look at the available cabins, see what's above and below, and take the side that gives you the best location, i.e. on the hump. Rare Lionesss Posted December 19, 2014 #12 Share Posted December 19, 2014 What would you suggest on a trip Fort Lauderdale - Falmouth - Labadee? On the Oasis or Allure, probably starboard to see and watch people as they come and go on the ship...................(Western) Sea Ya
cruisinrealtor Posted December 20, 2014 Author #13 Share Posted December 20, 2014 Thanks everyone! I'm thinking port side because when we leave port in fll I'd like to see all the big homes . But people watching in labadee on starboard side is up my alley too. Decisions decision .
A Pisces Posted December 20, 2014 #14 Share Posted December 20, 2014 What would you suggest on a trip Fort Lauderdale - Falmouth - Labadee? If you will be on your balcony for sail-a-way out of Ft. Lauderdale, I would pick the Port side. We like waving to everyone as you leave port. :D
1ParticularHbr Posted December 20, 2014 #15 Share Posted December 20, 2014 (edited) When we're not in an aft, we choose a starboard hump...no real reason for starboard vs. port but now that we cruise a couple of times per year, it does make finding our cabins easier each time...no new location to learn ;) On our next cruise though, we're in an aft port side Boardwalk balcony - will see how often we get lost! Mjoellnir Posted December 20, 2014 #16 Share Posted December 20, 2014 On the Oasis or Allure, probably starboard to see and watch people as they come and go on the ship...................(Western) Sea Ya We will be on independence.
