We will be arriving in Venice by train from Florence. Plan on spending 2-3 nights there before

boarding our celebrity cruise. Can anyone recommend a hotel that would be convenient, This

is a first time visit for hubbie and I. Thanks.

Convenient to what? Venice is very small ...you can walk from the train station to St Marks in under an hr if you have a good sense of direction?

If you can easily manage your luggage, you can stay anywhere, and there's a water bus stop in front of the train station to take you along the Grand Canal.

Or use the Left Luggage facility at the station, and take an overnight bag with you.

The only downside to the train station is that it's on the OTHER side of the Grand Canal, so you'll need to cross a large bridge to reach PRoma , which is where you catch the monorail or a cab to the pier. But as long as you don't overpack, it's fine.

Hotel Olimpia

good location near the pizzale roma, the people mover, the train station and the bus to/from the airport.

We also found this location very convenient for arriving and leaving Venice. Have stayed at Hotel Arlecchino and Hotel Santa Chiara, both were good. Have a wonderful time!

If staying in Venice for three or four days please do not limit yourselves to staying in places you consider convenient. Immersing yourself in the backstreet of Venice is priceless. If your desired hotel is off the beaten track, pack a carry on with all you will need in Venice and make use of the left luggage service in Piazzale Roma for your large bags. Another option is to spring for a private water taxi from the airport and choose a hotel that has a private dock. Have you looked into an apartment? I used airbnb in Rome this year and it was great!

Hotel Locanda Salieri near Piazzale de Roma, Grand Canal, Cruise Terminal and Venezia St Lucia station . Vaporettos on Grand Canal too . Good value on quiet canal, good in house and nearby eateries. Book on line direct via Hotel website to avoid paying middleman commissions .

We stayed at Best Western Hotel Ala for three days before our cruise. It was fantastic! A small hotel a short walk from St. mark's square. Reasonable price, good breakfast, overlooking a canal, lovely rooftop terrace, friendly bar. Highly recommend it!

Having been in Venice twice, here is another vote for not limiting your choices to those near the central transportation hubs. If you truly want to experience Venice, I recommmend staying nearer to the historical center. It is magical to take a short stroll in the evening through the narrow alley ways, and piazzas, without needing to walk distance or take a water bus. Staying on the small canals will afford you opportunites to savor the surroundings. If you prefer a more conventional "hotel" that is closer to P Roma, than there have been some excellent suggestions above.

We stayed at Locanda San Barnaba, a very easy 2 minute walk from the Ca Rezzonico stop, or directly accessible by water taxi. many rooms have canal views and there is a lovely canalside garden where we could watch the gondoliers glide past. It is a very old historical hotel, not for everyone, but the location and ambience was perfect for us.

I was very pleased with the Hotel Moresco for its customer service, free breakfast, and proximity to Piazzale Roma/port/Vaparetto. My favorite, though, is the Hilton Molina Stucky. It's conveniently located on the Alilaguna route directly to the port for only 8 Euros pp, and the hotel offers a free boat shuttle back and forth to San Marcos Square for easy exploring. Their buffet had the biggest, best grapes I've ever seen and the muffins were to die for.

Another vote for the Best Western Hotel Olimpia. Have stayed there a number of times pre and post cruises. Great hotel and location.

This where we will be staying in March on our Viking ocean cruise!

It looks lovely and had great reviews.

Pleased to read that you liked it too.

We have also booked their transportation to hotel.

How did you get to your ship?

Thank you!

Hotel Metropole is close to St Marks and very close to the water bus. We have stayed in Venice 3 times and this is the hotel we will go back to. We booked without breakfast included and started every morning wandering the back streets and trying new places for breakfast.
