Why overnights in Monte Carlo? - new itins

DW was looking through the new itineraries for a possible trip in the Fall (October / November) and saw a couple of cruises that overnight in Monte Carlo. One of them for three nights.

I can't think of what there would be to do for such an extended stay and why they would be doing that. Nothing special showed up under Excursions.

The cruise has other stops within day trip distance of Monte Carlo so I'm at a bit of a loss. As her Travel Coordinator (and chief Washer of Dishes, and other such titles) I am hoping someone her might have some suggestions I can pass along.

Any thoughts?

The cruise is made up of 2 7 day cruises. Each cruise has an overnight in Monaco

I am looking at the one in Oct on Marina Venice - MC - is that the one you mean?

That one has an overnight in Monaco at the end. It actually is a good thing as you can do a nice full day tour (like St Paul De Venice and Eze) without worrying about missing the ship (+ evening in MC, if you wish). Or even venturing east to San Remo and beyond.

Also, spending overnight I can catch an early flight out of Nice next AM in order to make connections. Otherwise one may have to overnight somewhere as a later flights out of Nice might not make some connections (especially flying on miles where choices are a bit more limited)

Sorry, posted before checking myself. I looked at the itinerary and see while there is two nights but looks like a three day visit. Actually though leaves at 6 am for the 3 hour cruise :eek: to Antibes. So two days (arrive 8am, overnight, all day, overnight, depart 6 am) though Monte Carlo shows a three lines on the itinerary.

Yes, Pailchili, that is the one (or the half of the 2x7 day). I was thinking of maybe Saint Paul de Vence but did not think of Eze. Thanks - they would make a good day

Spent a few days in Nice last year and had trouble finding a decent flight here (west coast Canada) in the afternoon. If you can use your points on Air France alliance they had good afternoon options for me.

FWIW - if you have UA miles (or UR points with Chase), OS has frequent J availability VIE-LAX and TK even more J availability IST-SFO. I can connect in either VIE or IST with an early flight from NCE :)

BTW, TK is nicer than LH, IMO - it was a pleasant surprise for me.

Didn't look for YVR but AC should be OK as well.

I've read many of your helpful & informative flyer posts - I've got a lot to learn.

2 years back took my first flight in several years on AC. Been avoiding them but was pleasantly surprised. Was not an unpleasant flight actually and some very good cabin crew. That they can substitue Rouge, so I've been told, scares me. I've heard the seats are small and I am not. :)

2 days is a good amount of time to see the area.

Nice and Cannes (France) are just down the road and San Remo (Italy) in the other direction is worth a visit too. All great cities to visit.

Villefrance is a nice little town and and Cap Ferrat, where the really upper half live, is worth the drive.

In my opinion, 1/2 day in Monte Carlo was enough :)

We are not fans of Monte Carlo so we take off. This past May we took the 100 bus to Cap Fermat and visited Villa Ephrussi and walked Cap Fermat. Last time we took the 100 bus to Eze. I can assume that Eze will be less crowded in October so a great time ever to visit.

Bus 112 runs along the middle Corniche, so that's the bus to take to Eze Village from Monaco. It does not run on Sunday's.

Bus 100 runs along the coast, and would only get you to Eze-sur-mer and it's an hour and half hike up a mountain to Eze Village from there. There is a bus that runs between the two Eze's - but it's very difficult to time the transfers.

Bus 100 runs much more frequently than does Bus 112.

Antibes is another lovely town along the coast, easily reached by train, to combine with a visit to Nice.

Agree 100%. And it is an easy bus ride to get there - much cheaper than booking a tour, and easy to see on your own. The bus stop is at the base of the 'town'. Think Mt St Michel without the water.

We've spent a ton of time in the area by both ship and land. Also don't forget Menton to the East. The bus service is much more frequent than Eze. Nice little town on the coast. You can't beat the views from Eze though

I would go to Cannes by train. Cannes is a lovely town, less hectic than Nice, and with a pretty harbour. Above all it has a great covered market!

I wish Oceania did more overnights and extended hour docking! Places like Amsterdam the O ships seem more interested in getting out of than allowing their cruisers a chance to enjoy. That would be a great overnight especially with Ostende (Brugges) just a short hop away!

Monte Carlo is beautiful at night. A great place to walk around in with wonderful restaurants. Just watching all the beautiful people come and go, in the evenings, at the Casino in their beautiful attire is entertaining. Certainly not the Vegas strip atmosphere!
