Upgraded to Haven Question

I'm on the Breakaway and my bid was accepted. So my question is, what is great about the Haven? I know as a person who was upgraded you keep the perks you originally had, but what do you get in the Haven that sets it apart? Thank you!!!

I did an upsell to the Haven last year on the Getaway. It's a nicer stateroom. You get access to the Haven area, which includes a bar, lounge, pool, sundeck. You also have your own butler and a concierge to help you with booking anything. We loved the Haven. On sea days we hung out there since the pool was packed. You also get priority embarkation and disembarkation.

We really didn't use the butler any on our times in the haven. I think the best part, overall is the quiet of the area. None of the chaos, pushing and shoving that you can sometimes feel on a cruise. The bar area is NEVER busy- when you are in at the haven pool the staff bring you your drinks. Also, you have your own restaurant with excellent food - however the menu doesn't change. You have reserved seating at shows, priority embark, disembark.

ITS. AMAZING.

Husband said he will not travel any other way now. I guess this is why he is not going with me on this trip lol. Everything he hates about cruising you bypass with the haven. Starting with those long lines at embarkation. Nope tell them you are in the haven and walk right pass the line to a special area. Not having to go to a show an hour or two earlier to get good seats. Have your own special section. When tendering back to the ship the lines were so long my husband was like we have to stand in this line I said yes. He said omg. Then all of a sudden a gentleman with a haven sign came around and said all haven guests come with me. And off we went to the front of the line and on the next tender. As I walk around the ship and enjoy people and noise and everything I love he stays in the haven area and is relaxed and we meet up later best of both worlds. The thing I love no chair hogs that I have encountered.

Why bid if you don't already know why you're spending the extra money?

Enjoy the experience. You'll see.

I knew about the butler and concierge and separate pool area. I didn't research a lot because I didn't want to be disappointed if we didn't get it.

Do a search in the forums for Haven butler and read up on all the perks and benefits they provide. We won an upgrade last week and I've been reading up on everything and am even more excited about our upcoming cruise on the Escape. Keep in mind that the butler and concierge are not part of the DSC gratuity so you should factor additional cash for tipping them at the end of the trip...recommended gratuities vary greatly based on who you ask and how much they use them.

I'm looking forward to the afternoon snacks waiting for us in the room after getting back from excursions. Butler-provided white tablecloth en suite breakfast if you wish. Going to be a really nice trip!

As others have said before, once you go Haven you can't go back. In our case that was 100% true. We had cruised in a mini-suite and then a mini-suite with large balcony. We said no more regular mini-suites after that. Then we booked a large balcony mini-suite for our 14 day cruise and were upgraded to a Haven 2 bedroom suite. After that my DH said that's the only way he will cruise. We cruised again a year later in the same room for 13 days and paid full price for it. He didn't want to risk the bidding process and not have the Haven. We are cruising on the Breakaway again in December for 7 days and once again paid (almost)full price. We upgraded a Casino's at Sea offer and booked the same room again. This will be our 3rd time in the Haven but the first as Platinum.:p

I have links to my reviews to our cruises under my signature if you are interested. They are a bit long winded, but I suggest starting with the oldest one first to get to know the "characters" you will read about. :D

Smart man(y)

For every bid success story, think of how many unsuccessful bids there are. So many people (not all) feeling disappointed before the cruise even starts. Then you have the people kicking themself and thinking "Why didn't I bid higher?...If only I had bid..."

...not worth the risk, imo.

We like to watch tv before bed and I read on an old review someone who was sick in the Haven saying they were happy for the "free movies" provided in the Haven. The thread was old so I didn't reply there. Are there free movies on tv in the Haven?

Haven guests get the regular movie channels everyone else gets, plus free "ppv" movies that non-Haven guests have to pay for. Great perk for late night winding down time.

You will love the Haven. As others have said, it will be tough to cruise any other way in the future.

The best perk is the Haven restaurant. You will get specialty restaurant quality meals free - breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I especially like the breakfast. In addition to the menu items, they have a really good spread set up for pastries, fruit, etc.

The other main perk is privacy. It really is a ship within a ship. Much quieter and relaxed atmosphere.

Some people enjoy using the concierge and butler, some don't use them that much. The concierge desk can help arrange shows, excursions, and priority disembarkation. The butler handles room service and any special requests you may have...for instance, the butler will bring an afternoon snack every day. I hate the canapes, so I make sure to let the butler know to bring chocolates instead.

You're gonna have a blast! Enjoy your cruise!
