Any hopes of RCCL ever returning to New Orleans?

Really hate they pulled out of New Orleans!!!:mad::mad:

There are only two lines still operating there and the routes are basically the same....Mexico.

Carnival is coming back to Mobile in the fall of 2016 but only offering 4 & 5 night sailings to Mexico again. There ARE actually people who would LOVE to sail from these ports to somewhere other than Mexico.

I know many who would welcome RCCL back to either port!!!

Let me start by asking you this. Are you willing and able to sail for more than 7 nights? Because that's about the only way that you'll be able to go somewhere besides the same old Western Caribbean ports from New Orleans. Geographically, it's basically impossible. True, there are some "Eastern Caribbean" itineraries, but those are nothing more than glorified Bahamas cruises.

So, back to my question, if you can cruise for more than 7 nights, you're in luck! Carnival, Azamara Quest and Crystal are all offering itineraries from New Orleans ranging from 11 to 42 nights that visit ports that normally can't be reached from there on shorter itineraries. On Carnival's itineraries, you can visit places like Grand Turk, Aruba, Curaçao, St. Maarten, and San Juan.

Some of the longer itineraries are roundtrip but the shorter ones are one ways requiring air transportation to/from New Orleans. But if you want to see new ports, and are determined to sail from New Orleans, that's the price you need to pay.

I just did a quick search on Carnival, and besides Mexico, they have cruises out of NOLA to Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Roatan, Belize, Key West, and The Bahamas. So I'm not really sure what you're talking about.:confused:

I did it for the first time last winter.... and liked it so much I cancelled another cruise and did it again last winter!

People were very friendly and really liked sailing down the Mississippi River!

If RCCL were to offer it again I would for sure book again out of there.

We really miss the NOLA cruises. It had become something of a December tradition. We have family there, and love the city and all the decorations and food.

And mid December was a great time to cruise, without flying all the way to Florida. :D

I guess from a few responses that I probably should of made my post a little clearer. I PREFER to sail on RCCL.. and I too, have looked at the "special" sailings out of New Orleans on the other lines that were mentioned (one being part of the RCCL family) but they are only offered every now and then & have not been what/when I liked.

I only wanted to express my desire to have RCCL sail out of New Orleans again or from Mobile and to have THIS line visit ports other than Mexico. I enjoy Mexico but when Carnival/Mexico is basically your only option (with the exception of the occasional trip to GC & Bahamas) it gets old.

And Yes, I would be willing to sail on longer trips to get sailings from either of these ports by RCCL...beats travel or air fair for me to other ports of departure.

I am pretty much Loyal to Royal now & would just like to see their return here.

When we lived there in 2013/2014, there was an article in the paper about a new cruise terminal directly across the river that was going to be refurbished for Royal Caribbean. But now that Royal has moved ships to Asia I doubt if that ever happens. Too bad. We cruised out of NOLA when we were there and it was awesome! Unfortunately it was over Christmas so we weren't able to view much of the river journey.

If you are flying from west coast, isn't the additional flight time to Orlando less than two hours?

About one extra hour.

We also enjoyed cruising from NOLA and spending a bit of time there before or after the cruise as it's one of our very favorite cities. I miss the NOLA departure port too!

RCCL is in the process of installing exhaust scrubbers on the older ships now. My understanding is that these scrubbers allow the ship to burn less expensive fuel but still meet EPA exhaust emission requirements when inside the 12 mile limit. I think this is especially an issue for cruises out of NOLA since they've had to use more expensive fuel to meet standards on that 7-8 hour trip down the Mississippi to the Gulf.

So…I'm hoping that when the scrubber installations are done we might get a ship back in NOLA!

Cast my vote for RCCL returning a ship to New Orleans and I don't care what ports of call it visits. It is New Orleans folks. By comparison all the other departure ports are boring. I'd love to have a morning departure from there so we could sail the Mississippi in the daylight.

We did a Carnival voyage out of Tampa years ago. It did a morning transit into NO, we arrived around noon. Sensation in 2002. Seems they also did one that you could board in either Tampa or NO.

We have sailed on Radiance and Rhapsody out of NOLA and in 2014 (on Radiance) we were told that the numbers people for the casino and shops on board weren't happy that they couldn't be open while cruising the river, so they lost quite a bit of revenue. Always comes down to the almighty buck.

We can get non-stop flights to New Orleans. Plus it is only a two hour time change.

My first cruise was out of NO in 2004 on Carnival and I just live NO as a city as you can tell by my handle. WHO DAT!!!!

I'm still not really understanding why you believe this. I just searched the Carnival website for cruises out of NOLA at least 6 days long (since you sounded like you didn't care for shorter cruises), and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM goes to somewhere besides just Mexico, including Jamaica, Roatan, Belize, Grand Cayman, and the Bahamas. It is anything but "Mexico is basically your only option (with the exception of the occasional trip to GC & Bahamas)". You might want to check again.

I say this every time a thread comes up. LOVE NOLA!!! One of the best places to cruise from IMO. A few days in the Quarter prior to a cruise is good for the soul!! :D NCL has cruises from there and for my next NOLA run-they will have my business for sure!!!

Not sure where you fly from, but Orlando has loads of direct flights from all over the country. Kind of a major vacation destination. ;)

Cruised into or out of NO 3 times. It was a better stop than a departure point. Do any Galveston boats stop there?

If we want to fly to Orlando, we fly to Orlando and cruise out of Pt. Canaveral or visit our friends in Melbourne Beach. :rolleyes:

We more frequently fly to FLL or Miami and cruise out of there. The flights are much longer with a layover somewhere and it is a full 3 hours later when we arrive. It is also 3 hours later with the time change when we get up. 10:00 AM feels more like 7:00 AM. :rolleyes:
