Magic or Oasis both in PC, which to choose?

With both of them both being in PC, is the Magic as good as the Oasis? Thing with the Oasis it has more restaurants, Central Park, the boardwalk Aqua theatre. Yes the intenarys aren't the greatest but your not going for the ports your going for the ship.

So with both of them being in PC, is the Magic as good as the Oasis can it measure up and which one would you rather go on. We've been on the Breeze, Valor and Conquest and going on our first RC next April out of Baltimore. So will these choices be an easy one for you to decide. If it was me I would do Oasis for the ship and Magic for the ports.

You are correct in your reasoning. I might add that the entertainment on Oasis will be better than Magic. Due to it's size, it is too bad that the Oasis is limited to certain ports. When you cruise on it ( or the Allure ) the ship is definitely the main attraction. :)

We would chose the Magic. We are a couple in our mid 70's, we don't need a rock climbing wall, a wave rider, an ice skating rink or any of the other things geared to the young folks. Why should we pay for things we won't be using? We enjoy sailing on Carnival when the kids are in school and there is more mature guests. We aren't fuddy duddys by any means, just enjoy a nice relaxing vacation

OMGosh....you MUST go Oasis, I been on 62 cruises so far and the Allure/Oasis were the best most favorite ships of them all!!!!

Board way is nice, different, fun....Central Park really looks like that and so tropical with live plants, flowers, trees, bushes beautiful!!

The aqua show is wonderful, the ice show is always excellent and a must go and see, go ride the tides bar that goes up and down slowly between decks...excellent martini's there too.

Chops good better beef for sure than the MDR, Vintages fun and wonderful small plates all delicious! 150 Central Park a tasting menu...excellent overall in service but since I need to be gluten free I wouldn't go again, Giovanni's Table always great, Izumi I recommend more for lunch, the hot dog cart real hot dogs unlike carnivals well if you call them hot dogs lol there are many types of hot dogs, brats and all to choose from....and I am a person that really hardly ever eats hot dogs found myself having one (without bun of course) each day lol....Johnny Rockets always hated and on Carnival I probably will hate Guys too but thats just me....Solarium Bistro is on the Oasis but not the Allure so haven't tried that, Samba Grill won't do again but maybe it was just a bad night there, Seafood Shack you love if you like seafood, Rita's Cantina good for mexican.....more places to get breakfast and lunch.....now with all this said besides the fact the pools are large and many of them and so much outdoor deck space and it NEVER felt crowded...and I find the buffets on RC better and more choices.....24 hours you can get mini sandwiches, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, salads and such....I think I said enough lol.

BTW, I am the same way i go on a cruise for the ship not ports! When I want a port I go to the island and do a land based vacation.

We were on the Allure didn't have Sabors but from the reviews I have to say I haven't read anything negative all good, I would definitely give up Rita's for Sabors just because I much prefer Sabors menu over the mexican menu.

You don't need Guys don't base what ship your going on for a burger lol....

How much is each ship, you mentioned an inside cabin on the Oasis what type of cabin would you get on the Magic?

Definitely Oasis. Best cruise ever out of 30 cruises. Did the Oasis in FLL 2 years ago. Doing Allure this year.

BTW we don't do rock climbing, ice skating, zip lining or any of the other things molme mentioned but still had the times of our lives. Sabor was so good we ate there twice.

I will be 60 when we embark on the Allure in November to give you some perspective.:)

This is the Carnival board and you are getting mostly great comments.

That should tell you something. Jimbo isn't around yet today. He didn't like it either so there's another vote for Carnival.:)

All that planning way in advance if you want to see a show or attend something. To me it's not cruising but more like a Disney trip.

Is there anything good about the Magic that anyone would want to book the Magic?

Guys Burgers & the Casino program with Bounce Back offers.

But, having been on both ships...hands down, no contest OASIS class is the ultimate in ships.

We were on the Oasis Nov 2015. Several couples in our early 50's. Beautiful ship, more than enough to do. You can't possible do and see it all in 7 days. Some of the entertainment/water shows canceled because of the weather. Always felt like I had to be doing something.

Was on the Dream sister ship to the Magic. Loved it. Cove balconies and the Cloud 9 spa. More time to relax.

So I would choose the Magic over the Oasis, for the Spa alone, and for me the Oasis is beautiful but I prefer the size of the Dream class.

Regardless which one you choose, I am sure you will have an awesome cruise.

Those are good questions:

Did we find Oasis too much ship? No way at all, you don't have to see or do everything in fact, I never saw some parts just wasn't interested and skipped over them we didn't go or use the solarium, we didn't see wipe out cafe, sports court, oasis dunes to name a few. You go and see what you want and honestly, to see and do everything this cruise would be best for more than 7 nights, but was never overwhelming, in fact, we found it very relaxing the most out of any other cruise we taken:

1- Two mornings we went to the Park Cafe for breakfast and sat outside in Central Park on one of the wrought iron tables/chairs and listened to crickets, all types of birds chirping while we ate was so tranquil.

2- One morning we went to the beautiful Central Park and had mimosa at the Trellis Bar where foliage vines and plants and flowers hung all over the trellis, beautifull!

3- One morning we went to the Solarium Bistro, where we had fresh juices and a bistro style buffet breakfast, you will find yogurt, oatmeal, granola, fruits, cold meats and other breakfast items here.

(Its nice to have an assortment of different places to eat breakfast and lunch)

4- We found ourselves enjoying the Rising Tides Bar it goes up and down very slowly and it stops at a few different decks to get on and off and it was very nice view looking at all the open decks where people are walking and doing things.

If specialty restaurants are important to you then Oasis is definitely the ship for you as we tried every restaurant there was, it was so nice having all the different choices, in fact, one day we had lunch at Vintages also it was very relaxing there too.

Central park has many chairs, tables, cushion comfy chairs also, at night its lit up beautiful really romantic for real!

We NEVER found it busy and always never board or tired of going to the same places because there were many choices on the Oasis. RC sure knows how to build their ships perfectly we NEVER felt crowded at all in fact also Dazzles was a nice place to hear a live band or listen to DJ and watch people dance.

If entertainment is what you also want, definitely RC, we never go to any of the shows on Carnival find them not to be enjoyable at all, kids would find them enjoyable I would think with the magic show, the juggler stuff like that but its not for us.

If your the type to stay up late and want something to eat besides room service, the Promenade Cafe is open 24/7 there you find all types of sandwiches (ham and cheese, roast beef, turkey, shrimp salad, etc), cookies, pastries, salads you have a wider assortment of choices where Carnival past midnight may still offer you burgers, fries, hot dogs or there just be pizza only.

If you notice next week we are going on the Magic, we have been on her sister ship the Dream and I must say that was my most favorite carnival ship so this is why we chose the Magic. If the Oasis was in Pt. Canaveral now we would of definitely chosen that ship over the Magic only because the Oasis/Allure was all of our favorite ship. My sister/brother in law, my adult daughter and her bf, my father in law who is elderly and ourselves....three generations agree!

Now to talk about the good about the Magic:

I have to say Carnivals Steakhouse is one of our most favorite if not our favorite specialty restaurants. In May on the Valor southern Caribbean cruise, we dined there 7 out of 8 nights and every night was just perfect.

The Magic has Cecina Del Capitano above the LidoMarketplace where its open for lunch and you can find lasagna, italian pastas, etc. and its complimentary, at night it turns into a nice italian restaurant for just $15 per person, we haven't tried dinner here on the Dream but have reservations our first night there on the Magic.

We love Carnival's casinos, they are more fun and we think they are more loose than RC well maybe not but I seem to come home with more of my money on Carnival so maybe? They treat my other half so well, they give him the drinks on us card immediately along with bottles of wine on certain dinners, goodies sent to our cabin, they are the best casino at sea!

The Magic has Guys burger but its a burger I wouldn't choose a ship just for a burger...but it also offers breakfast burritos, lunch at the blue iguana cantina but what I love is the fact they have the Red Frog Pub that just for $3.33 you can order items such as conch fritters, grouper bites, jamaican jerk wings, conch salad, and other caribbean favorites and its open until 1am too!

I do love the fact that Carnival has the live band playing at night outside the casino area on the Magic its located in Ocean Plaza...then they have the Alchemy Bar which has so many different type drinks its a must go! I also like Carnivals comedy shows over RC as usually they offer them nightly, ok, it depends upon the comedian but they have them nightly which is nice and I am not ever one for the piano bar but tons of people always rave about it and enjoy it.

They also have the sushi place serving sushi at night and the taste bar. On Sea days you have brunch till 1pm in one of the main dining rooms this is where Carnival offers something that RC doesn't offer its not to be missed! On sea days also they have the Guys Pig & Anchor BBQ Smokehouse we are dying to try this. Plaza Cafe for lunch time offers snacks, salads and sandwiches/wraps.

Honestly if you were to choose a Carnival ship I would recommend the Vista of course and then the Magic/Dream...I haven't been on the Breeze yet the only Carnival ship I haven't tried and thats because they moved her to Galveston! I am sure she would be on my list also.

You have to think what is most important to you, I think I gave you a touch of everything to decide but whatever you decide both you won't go wrong.

FYI Carnival enhanced its Cheers program now offers you the shake shack (not on the Magic), vitamin water, bottled water, all specialty coffees included in the MDR and the Plaza Cafe I think this is another area that Carnival is better than RC.

Loved the Valor/Conquest the Breeze was nice found the layout not the greatest the price was decent for an OV. Were going on the Grandeur next April going to Charleston, Miami, PC, Nassau and Coco Cay. Not a lot of bells& whistles but the ship seems like more of an intimate feeling.
