Debitoo Posted April 1, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 1, 2015 I'm currently on the Legend and we are sitting dead in the water somewhere in the Caribbean. The captain just came on and said one of the engines "tripped". Hoping things change soon!

time4u2go Posted April 1, 2015 #8 Share Posted April 1, 2015 If all power was/is lost, how were you able to post? April Fool's joke?
Zengl Posted April 1, 2015 #9 Share Posted April 1, 2015 There is a little bit if power. Wifi is working.
Clarea Posted April 1, 2015 #10 Share Posted April 1, 2015 If all power was/is lost, how were you able to post? April Fool's joke? Maybe power for propulsion is lost, but generators for ship electricity are still working.
ryano Posted April 1, 2015 #11 Share Posted April 1, 2015 I hope our resident engineer will see this and shed some light on it. I was always under the impression that ALL Royal Caribbean ships have redundant power sources so this doesnt happen. Could this be the Captains way of playing an April Fools joke?
Clarea Posted April 1, 2015 #12 Share Posted April 1, 2015 Maybe power for propulsion is lost, but generators for ship electricity are still working. Scratch this theory. I just read that Legend is all electric, 5 engines generating electricity that power 2 electric motors for propulsion.

mrchips14 Posted April 1, 2015 #16 Share Posted April 1, 2015 You could have been the first US cruise ship to stop at Cuba in a long time. LOL

m*u*g* Posted April 1, 2015 #18 Share Posted April 1, 2015 But the title of the post is 'On Legend all power lost'. Misleading.
Rare LMaxwell Posted April 1, 2015 #19 Share Posted April 1, 2015 You could have been the first US cruise ship to stop at Cuba in a long time. LOL Legend is not a US cruise ship... But glad that power restored quickly and without any severe impact.

compuryan Posted April 2, 2015 #21 Share Posted April 2, 2015 (edited) I hope our resident engineer will see this and shed some light on it. I was always under the impression that ALL Royal Caribbean ships have redundant power sources so this doesnt happen. Could this be the Captains way of playing an April Fools joke? In the event of a massive electrical failure in the engine room, the only backup power source is the emergency generator. It powers emergency lighting and some other critical systems only. It cannot power the propulsion system. I don't know how the engines are laid out on Legend or if she has separate engine rooms. I know that at least Voyager class and newer all have 2 independent engine rooms so that if one suffers a failure the other is completely separate electrically and phyiscally and can continue running its engines for propulsion power.
