What are the chances of getting a second time in a speciality restaurant?

This is our first time on Riviera.

It is the luck of the draw

Just ask daily at the res desk & be flexible with time & sharing a table & you may get lucky

This has never been an issue on our two most recent cruises. We ate in one of the specialties every night but one and thought we should give the Grand Dining room a chance on one of the nights. We eat late and always request a table for two. We never had difficulty getting additional reservations. It may depend on the cruise but that was also our experience on the Marina last September. There are mumblings about some changes on these boards, but as of two weeks ago, we did not see any evidence of this.

If, by any chance, you are in a Penthouse or higher suite, your butler can serve you course by course from any of the specialty restaurants if you can't get the time and table you want. This is a real plus. Dining in the restaurant is always a step above the bedroom IMO.

If you have a butler ask him to get the second reservation. On our last cruise we didn't much like Toscana and had two dinner reservations there so I asked the butler to cancel our reservation. He said he would pass it on to a couple in a PH suite who were eager to eat there again - so he made 4 people happy!!

If not - go to the desk at the restaurant you want a second reservation at early in the cruise somewhere around 1845 so that they have had time to seat the first "wave" of diners. Ask the Maître d'Hôtel to put you on a waiting list for a reservation should one come up - and do follow the suggestion above to offer to eat at any time and/or to share a table. Chances are there will not be a problem getting your second res. Good luck!

I will reiterate for the umpteenth time ...

It can depend on your fellow passengers on the cruise. There are cruises where there are many (like us) who aren't that intent on eating in a specialty restaurant every night. And in that case, your chances (no matter what cabin level you are in) are very good. (Again, bear in mind that the specialty restaurants have set menus and if you are on a longish cruise, that can get old.)

On cruises where the majority of passengers are intent on dining in a specialty restaurant just about every night, it will be more difficult to get an extra reservation.

It is impossible to predict what your passenger demographic will be!

But the advice already given -- to be flexible in terms of time and sharing a table -- is well taken. We've had lovely meals in the past with total strangers. Sometimes not so lovely, but I can't remember a really terrible meal when we shared with strangers.

It helps that we personally DO like the GDR and Terrace ...

But let's be real, the higher your cabin category the answer is yes you can. If you have the Owners Suite for sure the answer is "YES".

That has not been our experience at all. We have sailed in an outside and in a top suite. We have had same access in both.

From a forward booking on line aspect you are allowed so many specialty restaurant reservations based on your category of cabin and length of your cruise .

Then there was on Regatta a desk at breakfast just inside the Buffet entrance that allowed additional bookings for the specialty restaurant open that night based on spare seating still available.

There is an entire Thread on the new dining reservation system. I'd suggest reading it.

Many of the posters here are discussing their experiences before the current policies went into effect. An example is (unless one is in a very top suite) going to any restaurant and talking to the MD will do you no good. All dining requests are now done at the Reservations Desk, where tables are granted on a priority basis (see above thread). The MDs are given a priority wait list, for their restaurants, to fill from in case of additional cancellations. Those wait lists are typically long, and the MD call the rooms based on that provided wait list. Again see above thread.
