CruiserBruce Posted February 7, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 7, 2016 If you look down the board there are MANY threads about hotels in Rome. Very few in Florence. It would be helpful if you told us your definition of "reasonable".
H2OH! Posted February 7, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 7, 2016 (edited) We liked the/Marriott Grand Hotel Flora which is at the top of via Vittorio Veneto- lots of hotels on via Veneto- walk to main sites not too bad. the Marriott is just inside the city center walls. http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/romdt-rome-marriott-grand-hotel-flora/ Edited February 7, 2016 by H2OH! bobalink Posted February 7, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 7, 2016 We are spending 3nights in Rome pre cruise and 2 nights in Florence post our Mediterranean cruise sailing in April. Has anyone booked through airbnb. Or good suggestions of reasonable places to stay. In Rome: We recently stayed at Albergo del Senato. It is directly across from the Pantheon, making it close walking distance to most of the major sites. We only took a taxi to the Vatican. Check them out on Trip Advisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187791-d191099-Reviews-Albergo_del_Senato-Rome_Lazio.html A few years ago, we stayed at Hotel Artemide. It was a great place, too. In terms of location, we preferred Albergo del Senato. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187791-d205044-Reviews-Artemide_Hotel-Rome_Lazio.html In Florence: We recently stayed at Il Guelfo Bianco, a lovely boutique-style hotel located right down the street from the Duomo. I thought it was the perfect place to stay, walking distance to the major points of interest. Our room was quiet, clean and comfortable. The staff were attentive and helpful with directions, etc. Breakfast was included and very good. There is a restaurant (attached) next door and we had lunch there one day, and it was very good. Check them out on Trip Advisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...e_Tuscany.html Or, visit their website: http://www.ilguelfobianco.it/description.htm Hope that is helpful. Enjoy your visit to Italy!
kamarhan81 Posted February 11, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted February 11, 2016 Yes the term reasonable is hard for others to give advise. I am looking around the 175 mark. Thanks to those that replied appreciated the info. I will keep searching.

Thanks to those that replied appreciated the info. I will keep searching. During the heatwave last July, we stayed at the Garibaldi Blu in Florence. Very modern, centrally located, with wonderful, quirky art (don't miss the palm trees in the main foyer) and fabulous air conditioning. The breakfast was very good, too, and the price was right. Rare sandinmyshoes Posted February 11, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 11, 2016 We stayed at the most wonderful place just outside of the city center of Florence where it was quiet and beautiful and very close to a supermarket and the train that takes you to the main train and bus station in town. From there you can get anywhere. The price was very reasonable but the place was the most amazing place I've ever stayed and we usually stay in very expensive hotels. This was about $140/nt USD. It is called Villa Il Mosaico because of the pretty mosaics in each room. There is also a small kitchen in each and the prettiest bathrooms you have ever seen. So charming and authentic Italian with modern conveniences and extremely clean. We will stay here again this summer and every time we visit in the future! Here is their website … http://www.villailmosaico.it You can book them through the big name sites, but the rates are better if you book directly with them over email. Enjoy! Omega1 Posted February 11, 2016 #9 Share Posted February 11, 2016 We can highly recommend the Residenza Il Villino http://www.ilvillino.it/en/index.php Excellent accommodation with a wonderful host who gives the most delightful, inexpensive restaurant recommendations. Great location less than 10 minute walk to the Duomo and 5 mins to Santa Croce.
lovemylab Posted February 11, 2016 #10 Share Posted February 11, 2016 We spent 4 nights in Florence and 3 nights in Rome pre-cruise this past October. Our priority was a clean room that's in a good location at a lower price. In Florence we stayed at Hotel Nuova Italia. It was located between the train station and the Duomo. In Rome we booked an apartment through Maison Giulia, which is located near Campo di Fiori. I recommend both. The rooms were clean, the staff was friendly and the location was great. rwdtgb Posted February 12, 2016 #11 Share Posted February 12, 2016 Florence The Westin Excelsior stayed there over 20 times and would stay anywhere else in Florence. Rome Intercontinental De La Ville (top of the Spanish steps), ST. Regis.

Delightful hosts, helpful staff, delicious breakfast and convenient location. We also enjoyed our stay at Il Guelfo Bianco when we were in Florence this past summer. Both are excellent and we would stay at either of them again.
slidergirl Posted February 12, 2016 #15 Share Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) Florence The Westin Excelsior stayed there over 20 times and would stay anywhere else in Florence. Rome Intercontinental De La Ville (top of the Spanish steps), ST. Regis. did you mean you would NOT stay anywhere else in Florence than the Westin? I sure hope so - staying over 20 times would mean you are a very local customer. I love the location - right across the piazza from the St. Regis and right on the Arno. And, one bridge away from my favorite gelato store!!! All the hotels you mentioned are amazing - I too am addicted to the Westin Excelsior Florence. I love the hotel, LOVE the rooftop bar Sesto - I always reserve one night for sitting up there, relaxing with a drink or two, and just looking out over the Florence skyscape. But, I think they are a little out of the price range the OP had… That is why I didn't chime in with them. Be sure to stop by the bars at both the Rome and Florence St. Regis hotels and try their riffs on the classic Bloody Mary (invented at the St. Regis New York City). I loved the Brunello Mary from the Florence St. Regis - used Brunello Grappa as the alcohol and a rosemary sprig instead of the celery stalk. The Mary Terranean at the Rome St. Regis was good, but not outstanding - a standard Bloody Mary, but "italianized" with oregano, basil and a splash of olive oil. I've tried the variations at 5 St. Regis hotels so far... Edited February 12, 2016 by slidergirl
