Things to do on sea days....

I know this has probably been discussed many times but I thought a new thread for all the new cruisers would be helpful. I have a sister who will be taking her first cruise next year and it includes a stretch of 4 sea days....what do you do on sea days? :)

I recall answering the same question at length in another thread maybe a month ago.

There are plenty of things to do:

Use the gym

Nap

Read

Trivia

Cooking demonstrations

Shows

Musical events

Art classes

Zumba, yoga, workout classes

walking on the deck

eating, eating, eating

wine tastings

Speakers

Craft classes

Movies ...

If you're a pool person - the pool.

The lectures - often they are quite interesting and varied.

Spa.

Reading on the balcony or in one of the quieter public areas.

Getting together for cards/games with others on the roll call.

Participating in the activities like zumba, bingo, trivia, cooking demos, other demos, dance classes, art classes, IT/tech lectures.

Sharing a beverage/meal/great conversation with new friends.

Sitting on the deck/balcony watching the water.

Walking on deck.

Movies--in room or if in the theatre.

Casino.

Eat.

Nothing. Great for no plans, just flow with the day.

Actually, I love to go up to to top decks with my iPod and get a beer or two(depending on how long I am there) and find some shade and watch the ship's wake/water, enjoy the sounds/smells of sailing.

We find that sea days are a good time to chat to other people. When you go to breaky or lunch or coffee, sit at a table with others, and because you are not in a hurry you sometimes meet interesting people and chat for ages.

Check out the daily planner and there will always be things scheduled.

Take a camera and a deck plan, and get lots of pictures. Explore all the decks and all the different venues.

My number one item is to spend some time watching the sea go by. I love that!

These are all helpful but are there any others out there that can add to the list....I plan to copy the thread and send to my sister to help ease her concern about 4 sea days in a row.....THANKS!!!!:):)

Only four? Those days will fly by.

I can sit and stare at the water for hours, doing absolutely nothing else. It's as relaxing as can be. Many times I'll bring a book up to the sun deck, and hours later realize I haven't even read a page, I've just been looking at the water.

The ship will normally have a lot going on to occupy the passengers on sea days, some of it with a charge and some without. The casino will be open, the shops will be open and there are usually special sales advertised. As for activities with a charge, examples would be wine tasting events, tournaments in the casino, maybe a special brunch or luncheon in the specialty restaurants, the spa. For non fee activities, there are cooking demonstrations, movies, lectures, trivia contests, game show type activities, music by the pool and around the ship, port talks, sometimes dance lessons, the gym and exercise classes, and so on. There are often galley tours, backstage tours of the theater. Evenings will have special entertainment, a show of some kind in the theater and sometimes a deck party, a late night comedy show. And, as mentioned so often above, there is the relaxation element, the chance to have no schedule and just let the day unfold.

  • 3 months later...

I can sit and stare at the water for hours, doing absolutely nothing else. It's as relaxing as can be. Many times I'll bring a book up to the sun deck, and hours later realize I haven't even read a page, I've just been looking at the water.

YEAHH! Sea days are my reason for cruising (you could visit all the ports on a land based vacation if you wish).

Here are my sea days:

sleep long the 1st sea day

get up very early the other sea days to watch sunrise at sea

workout in the gym after breakfast

pretend to read a book while looking at the water (maybe nap away while doing so)

if the weather is good get wet in the pool

have a snack and a drink

explore what the ship has to offer (shops, Workshops, art galleries and so on)

have a massage in the spa one sea day

go to the theatre after dinner

have a moonlight walk on the outer decks

When I took my Mum for her first cruise she stated at the evening of the 3rd sea day in a row that she now knows how the rich and the beautiful spend their life :D and she would like to have some more sea months instead of sea days :p

Truly some great lists here already... And we often do many of the suggested ideas.

I would add:

1- Snuggling / Napping for 2 can be nice in the late afternoon in one of the beach beds (hard to describe... Need to find a photo) that are found on the pool deck alongside the railing

2- And Celebrity's MANY offerings for Activities on Sea Days is awesome... Check out "Celebrity Today" for a full list... Officer / Captain Lectures - Presentations / Games in the Theatre - Ship Tours "Behind The Scenes" - Computer Classes - Food Events (like the "Champagne Tea" or Cooking Classes) - Wine Tastings etc etc etc

Lol, always too much to choose from... Stuff has to be put off for the next Sea Day / Cruise

Hope this helps,

Cheers!

Last cruise I ate too much later in the cruise. I plan to not do that next time. But the food was so good. I got a bit bored on the last two days and decided to enjoy the variety offered at the buffet.

For our next cruise I plan to bring my guitar. I really enjoy studying music and having hours to do so would be great. I also plan to bring some items for another hobby that I have. I have no need to just sit in the sun and tan, so I need other activities.

I did enjoy the discussions offered on the ship operations.
