Cape Liberty Parking?

We have an upcoming cruise on the Summit out of Cape liberty and were wondering about parking at the port. I understand there is self parking for $19 per day.

Is the parking lot a long walk to the terminal? Is it possible to drop off luggage at the terminal(along with a passenger) and then park?

Appreciate any and all input.

There are a few parking lots at Cape Liberty. When we took Summit in May we were in the lot farthest away from the terminal They had a shuttle take you from the parking lot to the terminal to check in after dropping off luggage and then parking.

On the way back we walked back with all our luggage. It was a bit rough but we made it.

The are building the new garage. Not sure when it will be finished. Hopefully soon as I have a cruise out of there in September and another one in October.

Maybe this picture can help. When we arrived at port, we dropped off luggage with the porters and then paid for parking and self-parked at the lot. We rode the shuttle back. When we debarked hubby stood with the luggage to the left side of the port building while I hiked the quarter mile to the car and drove back to pick him and our bags up. There was a large shuttle bus running to the cars, but I didn't want to wait for people to board it with their bags.

Also, I think the Port Terminal Blvd goes to the right now and loops around in front of the port building. It's all very simple and I can't wait to do it again!

My husband talked about doing this our next cruise. Where on the left side did you wait with the luggage? Was it all the way down. It looks very congested in the "pick up" area and didn't want to get caught up in that traffic.

Thanks.

Thanks for posting that, very useful. Where is the garage being built? On the lot in front of the new terminal?

Have they done anything to improve the traffic flow and cut down on the terrible backups that occur on the road heading in?

I did a "cut and paste" from a previous post I put up. We sailed on the "Summit" in June and I posted this after our return. As you can see, I started my post with a caveat, as that thread was started a couple of years ago. We loved Bermuda and the "Summit" soooooo much, we're going back in Sept. And as far as the new terminal and road leading up to it....no issues, no long waits at all! NOTE.......this thread began a couple of years ago. I think Premier had DEFINITELY cleaned up their act and on a scale of 1 to 10.....a 10, for sure. Some folks have said it's difficult to find. Here are some very easy directions. We came down 95 south and took exit 14A onto RT 440. Stay on 440 South, go past the cruise ship terminal entrance. Take a right onto New Hook Rd (signage is very clear). Shortly, you'll come to a light/intersection. Facing you will be a huge "Lowes/Walmart" sign, cross over strait staying on 440 South. Almost immediately there will be a "Sonic" burger place on your right. About 50 ft past that, on the left is "Delta Storage", again, signage very large and clear. Turn into the Delta Storage lot. Premier parking is behind and to the right of the Delta Storage building. There are sandwich board signs on 440 and in the lot indicating where you need to "Zig and Zag" to get to the parking area that say "Premier Cruise Parking". We waiting about 10 minutes for the van, and on our return the driver said, "after you disembark, go to zone 15 for pick-up". I think we waited 2 or 3 minutes to be picked up! We did self walk off which started at 7:30 (and we were not at the font of the line) and we were in our car driving home at 5 past 8. The distance from this parking lot and the terminal is less then 2 miles and the ride is about 5 minutes. It might be a bit longer when not sailing/returning on a Sunday. And......if you get the parking in advance at "Parkwiz" on line...it was $48 and change to park for the week. And as an aside, we've sailed out of Port Liberty prior to the new terminal. What a difference!!!!!!! Much easier and efficient getting in and unloading, going through the terminal and getting onto the ship and the same for disembarking. We will definitely use them in the future when sailing out of Port Liberty!

Look at post #7. The garage is being built to the left of the new terminal.

In June I had the pleasure of watching the inbound road from 8:30 to 11:30 am while waiting for AAA to come and change my flat tire. I was sitting on the edge of the inbound road to the left of the word "Port" on the picture. I saw no backups that extended to that side of the road.

Folks who want to just park can bypass the terminal completely. There are now multiple areas in front of the terminal to pull in. Cars and liveries are pulling in right in front of the terminal, but all the buses are out of the way in their own loading/unloading area.

Good to hear that you were happy with Premier. I know there have been a lot of mixed stories here. However, their price seems to have gone up. It's now quoting me $9.99 a day. Last time I looked it was $11.99, so it's better now but still not $7 a day like you apparently got. It is MUCH better than going thru Premier directly, as they add taxes and fees to the price they quote.

I'm still undecided what to do, whether I should splurge for the pier or try Premier. Also undecided about my 12 night in January which would be much bigger savings. If the garage wasn't going to be open then, it would be a no-brainer to use Premier since they'll take care of any snow on the car. But I'm assuming that the garage will be open by then.

BTW I just checked their FB page and found a 10% off code -- INNO. It worked for my test January booking. Down to $107.89 for 12 days (vs $228 at the pier).

You forgot the quotes around the word pleasure :-).

So have they torn down the old terminal building, or is it just going in the open space between it and the new terminal? Didn't seem like there's enough space there if it's just the open space, although using the measurement tool in Google Maps, it seems to be a little under 200 by 300 feet, so a 55,000 square foot building, times some number of floors. so I guess that is big enough.

The new parking deck is to the left of the new terminal as you enter the building between the new building and the old building, nothing was torn down to make room for the parking deck. . It probably has enough parking for the Anthem but doesn't look big enough (to me) to handle parking for both Anthem and Summit. Looks like it will be complete around the end of September.

Maybe they will keep the outdoor parking as well for the Summit, which is only there over the late spring, summer, and early fall.

I think they will have to keep it. They also have to provide parking for full sized vans and pickups which don't meet the height restrictions on most parking decks, When we sailed on the Summit in July there were cars parked in three different locations. Still within walking distance but pretty spread out.

According to this article the parking garage is to be 900 spaces. They will probably have a lot for large vehicles and maybe extra spaces for cars. If they raise the prices a lot though more people may use other options decreasing the need for spaces.

I wonder how many cars park at the pier for an average cruise? Will 900 be enough for an average Anthem cruise? The capacity is over 4000 passengers.

One would hope that they wouldn't raise parking prices THAT much. I wonder if they would charge more for the garage than the lot?

Meanwhile, I never got to book my parking at Parkwhiz last night. I never finished booking and when I tried this morning I discovered that the 10% off code was only valid yesterday. I guess I'll keep checking their FB page, they seem to post them fairly regularly.
