  1. Good morning and thanks all! Love my middle name, my DDF named me. @marshhawkyikes on the meds! Glad to read all the suggestions, hope one works! @dfish we love Kalbi ribs, had some this week from a local Korean restaurant. Hope to visit the Great Barrier Reef one day, for now here’s a few underwater Pacific creatures.
  2. Yikes! So glad the rough ride is over! Enjoy New Zealand!
  3. Highly recommend the private water taxi. It’s pricey but arriving in Venice it’s magical. Your luggage and you will be deposit as close to your hotel as possible. Our hotel had a small dock. We have also used on two occasions, Treviso Car Service. They have clean large vans that can take a group and pick up in Piazza Roma or airport. They have been both reasonable and reliable. I do believe they will provide transport to Trieste. Some things are just worth the cost.
  4. We stayed in a lovely three bed two bathroom in Cannaregio. But it’s a little further and I don’t have access to my files as we are travelling. We did arrange a two bedroom apartment through the Hotel Bisanzio with a lovely terrace. Bonus was the lovely breakfast at the hotel and the interesting less tourist area. My only caution with air BnB is I have heard of several being cancelled due to “plumbing issues”. I would make sure to have a plan B.
  5. Good morning and thanks! We were fortunate to visit Alexander Grahams Bell’s home in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Must be Canadian inventors month! @RedneckBob happy birthday! @sailingdutchy happy anniversary to you both! a whale of a day to you both!
  6. @rafinmd love the maps! @Heartgrove you’ll know when it’s time, sending hugs! Enjoy each day with beautiful Sam! @ger_77 echo Gerry’s comments about only one Hurricane, I finished DH’s as well in New Orleans, barely lived to tell about it! Grief is like waves, sometimes barely noticeable lapping at your feet, other times it knocks you right over and you didn’t even see them coming.
  7. Good morning and thanks all! We visit Hilo every year at least once. We were just in Hilo last week, DS has a good friend there. Highly recommend a visit to Akaha falls and Mauna Kea. Also check the local shops, some sell beautiful vintage Kimonos. Beautiful murals and great local food.
  8. @Quartzsite Cruiser happy birthday to Steve! @marshhawk praying all goes well for Chuck! @ottahand7 glad the surgery went well! @StLouisCruisers glad you found a safe place for your DGD, can’t put a price on that! @cat shepard so glad you are there to advocate for your sister, although so exhausting. @Quartzsite Cruiser great photos of Knossos, do go back so much to see in Crete. Good news our dear granddog is home where DGD can look after him.
  9. @Heartgrove my deepest condolences. These are the hardest decisions pet owners have to make! Sending hugs, so hard to lose such a loyal friend!
  10. Good morning and thanks all! Hard to keep up being so far west where it’s still breakfast time! Crete is our other favourite island. We’ve visited Heraklion and the museum is great but we highly recommend a lot longer stay, as the rest of this huge island is absolutely beautiful and three several week long trips have not been enough.
  11. Great news! Sadly we are heading home in a week or we could have met. Although after reading @ger_77 description I think I should extend our trip, lol! @cruising sister so glad to hear baby Murphy is heading home! The second oldest church on the island.
  12. Kimura’s is on the Mamalahoa highway south of Kona in Kealakakua. It has been there a long time, some really nice and unique fabrics. And lovely, very patient ladies! The little village has some unique shops.
  13. One problem is you might not notice until later.
  14. Surely 50 euro is not a deal breaker for such a beautiful country🤷‍♀️. I think I have spent more in tolls in Italy. Switzerland is one of the most expensive places to visit but the scenery is sublime. Full disclosure I am part Swiss. 😁
  15. I would also suggest you could rent a car and spend the night before closer to Civitavecchia. We have enjoyed Viterbo and Orvieto both, and they are just over an hours drive from the port. Both are interesting places to stay and explore. My only concern with trains is potential strikes, so have a back up plan just in case. .
  16. Thanks Graham, but I am safe and sound in tropical sunshine for a little longer. Volcanoes and earthquakes permitting. You may have meant Jacqui? Good morning and thanks all! Our lovely new granddog is a rescue, I still can’t believe someone would abandon a young pup to fend for herself in a big city! Or anywhere! @RMLincoln I love that you are so positive, but you have been through a ton of life changes and that causes emotional exhaustion as well as physical. Please be gentle with yourself! @ger_77 it must have been a good day for buying fabric! we went to a wonderful very old Japanese fabric store that has beautiful fabrics from all over the world, and purchased 31 pieces. I’ll share in the next year or two when I complete the project. @StLouisCruisers brava! Lovely work, I’ve done 9 embroidered stockings recently and they each take a few months to complete.
  17. Rabbit rabbit rabbit! Good morning and thanks all! @kazu we saw the Koningsdam coming into Kona about 11 pm. It was gone by yesterday morning as a princess ship was in port. Hope you feel better. That TA sounds great. We love Lucca and have visited a few times, if you can ride a bike around the walls. We too have visited Florence a number of times and have stayed there. If you visit try Vivolis gelato by Santa Croce. Some more photos of Lucca.
  18. Highly recommend this! We like cruising but the islands deserve an in depth visit! @aliaschief why not celebrate both days? Happy birthday yesterday, today and tomorrow! @Lazy 1 so sorry to hear of the loss of your daughter! Happy heavenly birthday to her! I hope your cruise goes well! @kazu sending extra hugs, my friend! @Nickelpenny thanks for sharing the pink dolphins! A rainbow for those who need one!
  19. Thank you for sharing! Wishing you a speedy and complete healing. Not easy but worth it for permanent recovery!
  20. Just happened to me boarding a plane at the bottom of an escalator, the couple ahead stopped suddenly . Arggh and with carry on and people behind me!
  21. I always assumed this as well, but in England I am totally confounded because sometimes they do, but often they don’t🤷‍♀️😂
  22. Good morning and thanks all! @puppycanducruise special heavenly birthday to your brother, gone way too soon! I am truly sorry your family had to suffer such a loss! @Haljo1935special heavenly birthday to your grandmother. @cat shepard I am glad your sister is recovering, hope the AFib can be easily dealt with. Pace yourself, sending hugs! @JazzyV so glad you are progressing! @rafinmdyou're in my thoughts, hope the referral is helpful. Good to see @marshhawkand @Seasick Sailor posting! Thanks for the kind wishes for DGD’s Labrador, he had the emergency surgery yesterday and it went well. He has to stay at the animal hospital for a day or two as it was pretty major. I am so thankful as the loss of her first two year old Lab, was very traumatic. Also thankful, they had pet insurance! Unfortunately, we had a midnight visit of the Koningsdam last night due to a medical evacuation. Hoping the patients recover quickly! We had a fabulous day visiting Hilo, and later the summit of Mauna Kea for sunset was sublime. You are above the clouds.
  23. Safe travels! You must be out always yet. Edited, looks like you’re by captain cook, so not that far now. Hope all goes well.
  24. @cat shepard I’m so glad she was looked after so promptly, Praying she has a smooth and quick recovery! Not in the same league, but we are very worried as our DGD’s companion lab is having emergency surgery tonight. She lost her first lab to lymphoma when he was only two so we’re really praying all shall be well! And they are away to compound things.
