Tipping Advice in South America for private tours
mjmalino replied to SClakeliving's topic in South America
From what I have seen: Tipping: Up to about 10%, or just round up to the nearest peso for taxis. -
The US State department never mentioned the insurance requirement, but it was on the US Embassy in Argentina, and that has since been removed.

This link is from the US Embassy in Buenos Aires. This link was also updated on October 19, so it is probably pretty accurate. https://ar.usembassy.gov/covid-19/

My husband died on the Discovery Princess
mjmalino replied to LovetheSea's topic in Princess Cruises
I am so very sorry for your loss. -
We have been cruising with 3 generations for several years. Our upcoming is 14 day S. America and we range in ages from 23-77. However, our first multi-generational cruise we ranged from 9-63. All of them have been on Princess, and have been everywhere from the Caribbean, to Mediterranean, Baltic and Alaska. We have always loved it (which given that my kids are now adults and choosing to join us should be a testament to that). During sea days, everyone does their own thing. When the kids were younger they loved the kids camps. We spent meals together and did port excursions as a family, but outside of meals, our time was our time to spend how we each chose while onboard.

What is the longest cruise you've done with your kids?
mjmalino replied to woostergirl's topic in Family Cruises
We did a 12 night Mediterranean when the kids were 11 and 10. -
From what I have been able to find, that requirement has been lifted. Which, in my mind is good because they were requiring $30K in medical insurance, which a lot of policies do not have.

We had friends on our cruise earlier this year that were moved up from the waitlist.

Princess New Year’s Day Menu, Collards and Black-eyed Peas?
mjmalino replied to catarazzi's topic in Princess Cruises
We were on the Sky over NYE this past year and I don't remember seeing Hoppin' John on the menu. Given that I live in the South, I THINK it is something that I would have noticed, but not necessarily eaten. -
I am not sure I have had a cold soup that I DIDN'T like. To each their own.
-
That is odd because I have always brought my own pods and dryer sheets due to allergies. I think on the Sky in December it was $3 to wash and $3 to dry per load.

I went to Princess->On board our ships->Kids, teens, and families When you scroll down from there under "Teen Cruise Activities 13-17" it states: The Beach House — Ages 13-17 This contemporary beach-themed lounge is "the" place for teens to hang out, socialize and connect. (Sorry for formatting, that it how it is on the Princess site). I also clicked on the links for the registration information (below information about the teen program) and it states that the teen center is 13-17

I just double checked the Princess website to see if they changed the age groups from when my kids were kids/teens (they did restructure the program since then). According to the website, the teen "Beach Club" is for 13-17 years old. In my experience, Princess is not known for allowing kids to "move up". Again, my sons are now 24 and 23, so I can't for sure that things haven't changed.

difference between carnival and princess
mjmalino replied to seagoer1973's topic in Princess Cruises
I have used the laundry rooms on all cruises longer than 7 days (and one or 2 that were 7 days). It helps with packing, and given my allergies, I can bring my unscented, dye free detergent and dryer sheets. On our next cruise in February, 14 night, we will have multiple climates, and between myself and my husband, 2 grown sons and 1 son's girlfriend, that's a lot of laundry to send out. I will do it probably twice, with the help of my sons -
difference between carnival and princess
mjmalino replied to seagoer1973's topic in Princess Cruises
I have cruised both, but admittedly only once on Carnival a few years ago. Our sons, who were teenagers at the time, asked to try Carnival. After, they said they wanted to go back to Princess.🤷♀️ -
Dress code applies to kids as well.
-
Princess Plus or Premiere is for the first and second passenger and not automatic for the 3rd and 4th. However, it can be added for them.
-
We have used EZ Air in the past without incident, and are using them for our cruise in February. The good thing about it is that we generally book our flights as soon as they become available (assuming the cruise is already booked) and we were scheduled to cruise South America this past February, but the season was cancelled in August or September. Because we had booked flexible flights through EZ Air, our flights just went away with the cancelled booking.

As I don't think anyone discussed the snacks in the bars on this thread, the reason for them no longer being out is due to covid. Too many people reaching into the nuts/pretzels/etc.

Excellent response from Princess Representative
mjmalino replied to lilypod7's topic in Princess Cruises
When we were on the Sky in December after dinner the first night we went to the reception desk in the dining room and requested to have the same table every night. It worked -
I stand corrected, they do allow Canadian currency.
-
It comes down to address and, I think, currency. The US offices (and website) of Princess and Holland require a US address for booking as well as US and Canadian currency. That is why there is a European office for residents of Europe.
