  1. Taking a ship' excursion to the airport is an easily implemented solution to do something more exciting than sitting in the airport for a few hours (and a good use of excursion credit if you have some).
  2. Assuming they have US passports, and/or are US citizens without a criminal background, there should be little delay. Most of the Port E terminals use facial recognition technology that's pretty efficient. The manual line is usually less than 5-10 minutes on a 3000 passenger ship. I'd take the ship's tour of Fort Lauderdale rather than go straight to the airport.
  3. Not to mention a tripping hazard that would be amplified if the passageway were encumbered by smoke. Furthermore, in response to an emergency, there is no convenient place to get them out of the travel corridor (not that that extra task should be put on the crew, especially when in response mode.
  4. HAL requires that you store and charge your mobility equipment in your cabin. Scooters narrower than 23 inches should fit through a regular cabin's doors. If your scooter is wider, you may have a significant issue. Scooters left in passageways and lobbies create a safety hazard. See https://www.hollandamerica.com/en/us/about/our-company/accessibility#:~:text=Scooters and other mobility equipment,in hallways or elevator lobbies.
  5. It's a bit over an hour from Port Canaveral to MCO once you are in a vehicle. A bag check line could easily be 45 minutes. MCO has notoriously slow security, due in part to lots of kids and other folks not familiar with airport security. Add 15 minutes to get from security to your gate via train.
  6. Airtags aren't EPIRBs. They have no satellite capabilities. I believe the issue historically has been issues regarding signal clarity/interference with ships' systens.
  7. Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons are on HAL's list of prohibited items (https://www.hollandamerica.com/en/us/plan-a-cruise/get-ready-for-your-cruise/faq#prohibited-items). Spots lay be considered EPIRBs and, if so, should not be brought on board.
  8. The car rental companies do not offer shuttle services between MIA's car rental center and PortMiami. If you are using a commercial shuttle company, they usually pickup and drop off at the passenger terminals. Taxis and s like Uber may be available at the car rental center. You may find it advantageous to drop your luggage at either the cruise port or the main terminal prior to dropping off your car.
  9. Park n Go may already be full (it serves both the airport and cruise port). Rodeway Inn on SR 84 may have space- they have coupons out there that will take some $ offf.
  10. PBG is the airport code for Plattsburgh. New York. PBI is the code for West Palm Beach International Zirport.
  11. If you are traveling during the season (November-end of March/early May, you may find that price point challenging for the amenities you seek.
  12. There are few/if any shared shuttles to/from PBI and Port Everglades. PBI is a small, easily navigable airport with few amenities- don't expect much in the way of food/entertainment. Do allocate sufficient time for transfers. I'd block about an hour for road time.
  13. It should have limited impact on the hotels on 17th street. You CANNOT see much of the parade from 17th Street. Better options are downtown Fort Lauderdale, north side of the New River.
  14. Fort Lauderdale's airport and Port Everglades are adjacent to each other (the cruise port is northeast of the airport, Dania is south of the airport). Dania beach has somewhat limited public beach access, outside of the state park (Its a perfectly lovely state park. I've spent hundreds if not a thousand or more hours there- my father used to work at facilities only accessible by road through the park) Quarterdeck, at the east end of Dania Beach Boulevard, at the Dania pier, is highly reliable, pretty reasonable, and dining at the ocean's edge.
  15. Mezzaluna, which is the closest restaurant, is not accepting reservations on Thanksgiving. Publix, the nearby grocery store, is also closed. Quarterdeck historically has opened late in the day (4-5pm). 15th Street Fisheries is not accepting reservations.
  16. It's a little over 25 miles and typically takes 35-50 minutes to drive from the Fort Lauderdale airport to that area of Miami. the fare you referenced seems in line with "normal." Safe travels!
  17. You really should consider flying in at least the day before, assuming you are going on a cruise. You do not want a flight delay to cause you to miss your cruise. Please also remember to allocate time to clear US customs and immigration (whether you clear at departure or arrival in the US).
  18. Uber does now offer a phone number for requesting a ride. You can also request service when connected to a wifi hotspot. In either case, you would not be able to contact your driver without access to a hotspot. I don't think Fort Lauderdale airport offers wifi at the curb. There shouldn't be a substantial difference between a taxi and a rideshare, especially if staying in Dania or on 17th Street.
  19. Yellow Cab's contact info is http://www.yellowcabbroward.com/contact-us/. I don't think any special licensing/permit, other than a county permit, is needed to operate a taxi in the port. The county taxi permit office is: Broward County Permitting, Licensing, and Consumer Protection Division located at 1 North University Drive, Box #302 in Plantation, FL 33324. Phone 954-765-4400 ext 9376. Good luck!
  20. There are several entrepreneurs on Aruba with wheelchair accessible vans you can hire for a tour. Upwards of $400 for 2-3 people for 2-4 hours.
  21. You've never travelled needing mobility equipment. It is often exceedingly difficult (if not impossible) and/or expensive to find an accessible vehicle. especially for a power wheelchair or scooter.
  22. I do not remember them being accessible. There are curb cuts on many sidewalks/streets, however some of them aren't in the best of shape. Many of the sidewalks are not flat (slope to the street).
  23. i am unsure how to (and iff) the calendars can be aligned. A couple of other things to watch out for: The APHIS certificates for each country may also be a bit different. Don't forget about holidays that could interfere with processing/mailing times. Of you are departing December 6, Thanksgiving could affect your paperwork plans.
  24. Here is s link for Sun Country regarding service animals. Generally, service animals travel in the passenger cabin, at the feet of the person they are assisting. https://suncountry.com/help-center/special-services#label-subtopic-service-animals Usually, one is required to complete all necessary paperwork regardless of whether there is a plan to go ashore. You may want to review your itinerary. Key West is not accepting as many cruise ships as in the past and your cruise line may have substituted an alternative port.
  25. They've had one in years' past when the ship was at a remote pier.
