  1. I've heard many times (mostly on here) that sailing right before a drydock/non-rev sailing is usually not a good idea since they'll most likely start work beforehand, but Royal should absolutely have informed guests that this was going to happen. My wife and I love the Solarium and if this was done with no notice we'd have been upset as well. I get that it's not always possible (e.g. on sailings with group charters, it may not be possible to know beforehand which venues will be closed to non-charter folks), but at the very least, send out an email letting passengers know that certain areas may/will be closed and give them options for OBC or cancellation.
  2. Add another one to the "no noise" group. As near as possible to elevators is our preferred location, and noise has never been an issue for us.
  3. You're only a few blocks from one of my favorite NYC pizza places, Capizzi.
  4. I know there are plenty of folks who say it's gone downhill, but I've always been a Bryant's guy. also, nothing says Kansas City like walking into Gates and hearing "Hi! May I help you?"
  5. Everybody knows the best BBQ restaurants are in Kansas City. 1. KC 2. Austin 3. St Louis 4. Memphis 5. N Carolina
  6. ”If you want to board with your friends, why don’t you just board with them in the regular line?” ”*****? Why would I do that? I paid to be able to use the Suite embarkation line!!” ”Exactly.”
  7. I used to wake up every night at least once to go to the bathroom, sometimes 2-3 times. Then, my amazing wife started getting into medicinal herbs and gardening. She did some research and made some tinctures that I put in my morning smoothies every day. Raspberry Leaf, Milk Thistle, Dandelion, and Stinging Nettle. Since I started using those, one of the benefits is I now wake up in the middle of the night maybe once or twice per week. Nature can be amazing. I do kinda miss the afternoon naps that using my new (since early August) CPAP has made unnecessary. Before I started using it, I was napping 5-6 days a week...always about an hour in the afternoon after getting home from work. Since I started using the CPAP, I've can count the number of afternoon naps I've taken on one hand...and not use up all my fingers.
  8. Yay! Love NYC, it's one of my favorite cities on the planet (Vancouver BC is a close 2nd, New Orleans and Paris also up there). We try to go every year around Christmastime. It's such a uniquely American city, nowhere else like it. I think it was the playwright Tennessee Williams who once said something like "America has three cities...New York, New Orleans, and San Francisco. Everywhere else is Cleveland." Keen's is great and historical...the mutton chop can be amazing. We always find new and incredible places to eat. A few of them on on our repeat list almost every visit (John's of Bleeker St. or Juliana's for pizza). Chinatown in Brooklyn is a wonderful place to eat...warm egg tarts are divine.
  9. In fairness, there are at least two things CC could use a lot less of: 1. Multiple threads on the same topic started within days of each other when the first one is still being commented on and still on the first couple pages. 2. Live threads where people insist on asking the OP to "tell John the bartender in the Schooner Bar that Joe says hi...tell him I was always wearing the blue hat, he'll remember me!" There, I said it....now if you'll excuse me, I must call myself out:
  10. You'll love Alaska. And Vancouver is near the top of my favorite cities in the world list, if not #1...it's an amazing place to visit if you have time pre-cruise.
  11. Totally get that, and it's always a YMMV calculation. In this case, the $$$ pencils out to pretty even with The Key vs. 2 device internet and a Chops lunch. Then if other benefits are worth it to someone, then The Key becomes "worth it". I get that it's not worth it to you, and to many others. It's never been worth it to me. But someone else might find value in things I don't find value in. Not my place to tell someone else what they should value.
  12. On our January Voyager sailing, The Key is priced at $17.99/day. Surf and Stream internet is at $19.99/day. I've never bought The Key, but do your own math and figure out if it's worth it to you.
  13. We were booked on that Oct 2020 Allure TA, sure wish we were there with you for this one!!! Have a fantastic cruise.
  14. We're long-time Royal cruisers, and we've done a Carnival sailing and found it to be just fine. In fact the best bartender I've ever had on a cruise ship was at the Alchemy Bar all week on Carnival (just one of the things that they do better than Royal...others being pizza and burgers). For everyone on here saying Carnival sucks, you can find the same number coming back here to post saying their Royal cruise sucked. All of which to say, rather than going through the hassle of two short cruises and the accompanying disembark/embark day....why not just do a 7 day on Carnival? You know what Royal has to offer at this point. YMMV, but my wife STILL gets "free" cruise/free drinks offers from the Carnival casino program to this day, and it's been three years since we sailed with them.
  15. I've said this before on here...but the Kan Kan Pork Chop at Raices is on my top 5 list of all time favorite meals. The Mofongo is delicious as well.
  16. Can't wait for this! We have a 9 day Southern on Voyager in January so I'm following closely. Adventure has always been my favorite ship, hoping I like Voyager as well. Hope your cruise is fantastic.
  17. I wouldn't buy at these prices, but not everyone who wants to spend more money on me for something is necessarily a sucker. If they value it more than I do and have the money to spend, more power to 'em. Also, it's getting to be pretty funny to read this same thread every time a new ship comes out. "Oh my God, the prices are ridiculous!!" Pricing outrage threads are becoming every bit as entertaining as chair hog and tipping threads.
  18. Just as a completely off-topic aside, the Alanis Morissette cover (with Willie) of this is one of my favorite covers of the past few years. Beautiful.
  19. I'm old enough to remember my Mom and Dad booking the new megaship Sovereign of the Seas after years of sailing on the Song of Norway, Sun Viking, and Song of America. "It's going to be SO crowded. How's your Dad ever going to find a place to sit in the buffet?"
  20. "We still have a problem with COVID...But the pandemic is over." Both of those can be true.
  21. We've stayed at the Crowne Plaza...it's just fine.
  22. Wait, what? Royal Caribbean gives perks? How could I have missed that thread?
  23. So....you're saying you doubted your minimum bid? 😉
