bee-ess Posted October 19, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Anyone on A731 Azura leaving tomorrow (or maybe not) Just seen on the Southampton Port Cruise Schedule that Azura is booked in Ocean until 1700 tomorrow and then until 1700 on Saturday in QE2. Are we laying up for 24 Hrs ? AZURA 20-Oct-17 06:30 20-Oct-17 17:00 46 CARNIVAL UK AZURA 20-Oct-17 17:30 21-Oct-17 17:00 38/9 CARNIVAL UK
Rare Selbourne Posted October 19, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Just looked and yes it does look odd. We are on Aurora from tomorrow and that still looks OK, but all inbound ships are going to have a pretty rough passage tonight. Given the recent Oriana issues P&O will not want another failed departure. The compensation must be running into millions.

Thejuggler Posted October 19, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 19, 2017 24 hours on berth is preferable to 24 hours going through the busiest seaway in the world in the low pressure system heading our way. Up to Storm force 9 and very rough seas through Saturday.

tartanexile81 Posted October 19, 2017 #6 Share Posted October 19, 2017 There's the remains of a hurricane on the way so Azura's probably staying in Southampton. It happened to us once. They provided a shuttle to West Quay on Day 1 then we had to stay onboard day 2 while they waited for a lull in the storm before we sailed at 4:00 p.m. This was on Oceana a couple of years ago. daiB Posted October 19, 2017 #7 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Perhaps this might be putting them off. Aurora is turning left so may miss the worse. Sent from my iPad using Forums

BrianI Posted October 19, 2017 #9 Share Posted October 19, 2017 It looks like there will be a 24hour delay in departure presumably due to the storm. Ocean terminal has a problem with strong winds on the side of large ships like Azura due to the angle of the berth and ships have been relocated in the past. I would presume everyone would board as normal tomorrow and everything, except the casino, will be available as though they had sailed. The only difference will be that the ship will be stable instead of rolling around in the channel. Brian

Would rather board on Saturday if we are not leaving until Saturday.

Rare Selbourne Posted October 19, 2017 #12 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Jeepers. If you think Dai’s graph looks scary, check this out http://www.ventusky.com Click on the tabs on the left for wind speed, gust speed, wave height etc. Then change the date at the bottom to move forward to tomorrow or beyond. My wife asked me to stop showing it to her as she’s beginning to feel anxious lol
Malcolm142 Posted October 19, 2017 #13 Share Posted October 19, 2017 We are A731. If we are delayed departure by 24 hours does this mean the whole cruise will be behind, surely they can not make up this time before Madeira. This deep low is tracking slightly further north over Ireland than had been predicted a couple of days ago
Rare Selbourne Posted October 19, 2017 #14 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Looks as though the Captains on Azura and Aurora have both put their foot down to get ahead of the worst of it, as ship tracking is showing them both level with the south Devon coast already. Rare P&O SUE Posted October 20, 2017 #17 Share Posted October 20, 2017 I would be quite happy to stay on the ship safely in Southampton, at least your holiday has started then! Wonder if you will miss a port? In 2012 on Azura we rushed back to beat a storm and arrived about midnight, we couldn't get off until the morning but I didn't want to! pkpon Posted October 20, 2017 #18 Share Posted October 20, 2017 I was just wondering that if the port of Southampton is closed. Do all the ships that are already docked there have to leave? Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Sent from my iPhone using Forums The port is not closed. In fact Aurora and Braemar will be leaving as planned although sailing in different directions to Azura. Rare Selbourne Posted October 20, 2017 #20 Share Posted October 20, 2017 I was just wondering that if the port of Southampton is closed. Do all the ships that are already docked there have to leave? Sent from my iPhone using Forums It never does close. Boarded Aurora an hour ago and the porter said that Azura isn’t sailing today. We are leaving as planned, but sailing away from the storm (for now)!
jeanlyon Posted October 20, 2017 #21 Share Posted October 20, 2017 The strong winds are due to drop later on Saturday. But the sea will ltake longer to go down. Out of interest we didn't think we would leave on Balmoral a couple of years ago. Force 11. But we did leave and only did about 6 knots for 3 days. On the third morning we were still south of Plymouth! Actually, it wasn't that bad, but we missed 2 ports due to slow speed.
lolabarola Posted October 20, 2017 #22 Share Posted October 20, 2017 Hi Received a text from P and O mid morning to say departure would be delayed until 18.00 on 21 October. We're about to move berths to QE11 terminal. Arrival into Madeira is delayed by one day until 25 October, but no mention of a late arrival into St Lucia so maybe we'll make the time up during the crossing? Excursions have been arranged for tomorrow - I may make one back home to check on the kids and the cats! Actually I've never explored Southampton so I'm hoping we're allowed ashore tomorrow for a look round...
Rare Selbourne Posted October 20, 2017 #23 Share Posted October 20, 2017 We’ve just gone past you on Aurora. Captain Turnbull honked the horn a good few times. So cruel!
lolabarola Posted October 20, 2017 #24 Share Posted October 20, 2017 Hope it stays calm for you! I'm happy to stay here tonight, so long as we eventually arrive in the Caribbean. Although I may feel a bit gloomy if we only arrive in time to catch the flight home!
vizzog Posted October 20, 2017 #25 Share Posted October 20, 2017 We were delayed a day in the Azores on last years Azura's transatlantic with an engine problem, they had to fly out some engineers and a part if I remember correctly. They made up time on the rest of the crossing did it in 4 days not 5, we arrived just a couple of hours late into our first Caribbean port.
