Sayra Posted November 19, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 19, 2013 Does anyone know if there are deck plans for the orginal Pacific Princess online somewhere? My sister gifted us with the Love Boat DVD's, and I'm trying to figure out what is soundstage and what is actual ship.

chrysalis Posted November 19, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 19, 2013 Just be aware that they used a couple of different ships during filming. A wiki search will probably give you more details.

Astro Flyer Posted November 20, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 20, 2013 (edited) Does anyone know if there are deck plans for the orginal Pacific Princess online somewhere? My sister gifted us with the Love Boat DVD's, and I'm trying to figure out what is soundstage and what is actual ship. Having sailed the Pacific Princess in 1992 the Purser's desk is not the same as on the show. Googled "original Pacific Princess deck plans" & found several sources with info you may find helpful & here are a couple of examples. This shows deck plans: http://cruiseready.squidoo.com/love-boat-starring-pacific-princess-and-island-princess http://maritimematters.com/2012/06/visit-to-the-former-pacific-princess/ :o Others were quicker than me with these links! :o Here's a link for a 1977/78 brochure: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=245585&d=1348005243 Edited November 20, 2013 by Astro Flyer
RickEk Posted November 20, 2013 #8 Share Posted November 20, 2013 The original Island Princess (sister to Pacific Princess) is now sailing as MV Discovery. ShipsAreTheBest Posted November 21, 2013 #9 Share Posted November 21, 2013 For additional information, go to this thread and read through it. I responded several years ago to a similar question and give some hints about what to look for when watching episodes as to what was real ship vs a soundstage and even some clues of which ship (Pacific Princess or Island Princess) they filmed on since both were used interchangeably even though Pacific Princess was the star the show! http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=719342
ShipsAreTheBest Posted November 21, 2013 #10 Share Posted November 21, 2013 (edited) One more thought: I can guarantee that no matter what episode you watch, if a scene took place in a cabin it was definitely NOT filmed on board. They were entirely too small in reality to pull that off. Some of the decor (door knobs, wall mounted lamps with shades) were reflective of reality, but that's where any similarity ended! KevintheIrishDJ Posted August 17, 2017 #13 Share Posted August 17, 2017 It is my understanding, most of the Love Boat was filmed in a studio.
Rare gotta cruise again Posted August 17, 2017 #14 Share Posted August 17, 2017 Back when the episodes were first aired, I sometimes would "follow along" with deck plans. The thing I remembered noticing was that the cabin numbers used on the show were not even cabin numbers used on the actual ship(s) that Princess sailed at the time.
