What can I get for “free”?

Really? We have every time. I've heard others mention getting spa gift cards if it's a big anniversary as well. Did you fill it out online before the cruise? I don't think they pay attention unless you specifically check the box and list the date of the event. Also, sometimes the casino will send you a random gift. (Ours sent us a bottle of champagne on my birthday, but that came from a different department than the cake did.) Also, to clarify, it was a big slice of a cake, not an entire cake, but it was decorated and kind. The kids enjoyed it as an evening treat.

I just got off the imagination last week. It was my birthday and I checked the box online too. My room steward gave me two gift cards. One for $50 for the spa and another one for a free picture at Pixels. Honestly beats a slice of cake any day!!!! I was so happy to get those. I didn't get a chance to use the spa one since it was such a short cruise, but we did bring home a really nice family picture for free!

A deck of Carnival Logo'd playing cards from the front desk. I know some have said recently that they stopped. I (ummm... my kids) got several pack in October and December last year during our cruises.

We just got some on the Imagination. My boys came with us up to guest services to ask a question about our charges and they gave each of them a deck of cards. We didn't ask for them, and I didn't see them giving them to everyone. They just started talking to the boys and then one of the ladies handed them each cards. It was a nice gesture.

A couple cruises ago I received a $50 spa gift card for no apparent reason. It only cost my about $30 plus tip to use it, as IIRC the only thing that was $50 or less was a basic mens haircut.

As my first cruise is coming up, what can I get for free on board? As far as I know by watching YouTube videos & researching, the service desk gives you Dramamine if you ask, & you can get a lanyard from the casino for the sail & sign card..., but that all I know. Let me know!

IMO the free lanyard is still overpriced. It is a long coiled springy thing designed for slot machine players. Not practical for anything else.

If you mark down that you're celebrating a birthday, you'll get a cake or cookies in your room. Some people have said that some boats hand out playing cards for free, but that's YMMV. You can win freebies at different game events. DD almost won the Hasbro game which would've been $50 in Hasbro games. Free champagne at the art auction (absolutely not worth it). If you spend 1,000 points in the Casino you get "free" drink coupons or a sticker depending on the boat. It's only good while you're in the casino though. I don't know if it's true or not, but I read that you may be able to get a free toothbrush on some boats. I've had them deliver extra water sometimes to my stateroom throughout the cruise and not charge me, but I think that's up to the room steward.

I'm not sure that it counts, but someone broke a glass once that cut my toe... the staff was nice enough to give me some free bandaids & ointment. I'm not sure that I'd recommend standing beside drunk people waiting for this freebie to come along though! :)I actually wish I would've known about the dramamine. DD got sea sick last time and we were running around trying to purchase it. Thanks for the info.

Incorrect on many points... You can buy a cake or get your own cookies but there won't be any showing up in your room. Marking your reservation you are celebrating may or may not get you anything, most likely nothing, Your cabin steward knows when your birthday is whether you note it or not, and on some ships have the ability you gift you a gift card for the spa, a photo or wine or not. Cruises 7 days or more require 1500 points in the casino to get the drinks on us card. They give you a card but in reality, it is then connected to your folio. You can buy a toothbrush or other personal care items in the gift shop, nothing is free. There is no free water delivered. They will charge and they do not forget since many people order it now since you can't bring your own. The games are usually rigged so no one really "wins". Someone gets a prize but not due to your own efforts. As mentioned you buy OTC meds from the gift store or Med Center, not passed out for free by Guest Services. Yes, most ships start out with a supply of free playing cards but run out frequently due to people asking for dozens at a time.

The casino doesn't send "random" gifts. Casino comps are triggered by points earned during the cruise.

We haven't had a free cake or cookies in our room due to "celebrating a birthday" ever.....used to get a cake in the MDR, but even that has stopped. You now have to pay for a Birthday cake and order it online in advance of the cruise (cost is $10)......not many freebies left these days! Even some of the 'perks' for those that have loyalty points have dwindled. :o

On my NCL cruise in 2017, it was on my birthday, and not only did the room steward leave me a Happy Birthday cupcake in my cabin, but I DID receive a whole cake at dinner.

This isn't an NCL forum. On Crystal you probably get caviar, still not revlevent to Carnival,

Totally aware it’s a Carnival forum. I have 2 Carnival cruises booked. Just adding my comment that although I am not aware if Carnival does this, but on NCL, they do provide a whole cake (to someone’s comment that they didn’t think a whole cake would be provided). No need to be snarky. I’m just trying to be helpful.

Last I heard you can still get norovirus for free, and along with it, a free doctor visit and a free confinement to your cabin for at least 2 days.

Done that...been there...and didn't get the T-shirt in Curacao...you know, because of being quarantined and all.

Don’t know about carnival but if you sail princess ever note you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary. I got a cake for my birthday and my sister got a free dinner at the steakhouse for her anniversary. Something to remember. May be helpful to some

It was definitely relevant, as it was answering their question. And how the heck was telling her it was offered on NCL, but I wasn’t sure about Carnival, bragging? I think you miss the point of what these forums are for, and that’s giving advice.
