Traditional dining on the Regal

We asked for the late dining on the Regal (08:15 PM). We are only two. Will we be assigned a table for 2? If not, is it possible to change and have a table for 2 as it is what we would prefer?

On nights when we go to a specialty restaurant, do we have to advise anyone that we wont go to the MDR?

When you chose your dining time, did you specify your table size also? If not, you can do it in your cruise personalizer. If it still doesn't set you up at table for two once onboard, head over to see the maitre'd and request a table for two. It may take a night to get sorted but shouldn't be a problem

If you know in advance you won't be at your table the next night, it's polite to let the wait staff know so they aren't waiting for you - but not required.

Happy sails!!

You can request a table for two, but they do not guarantee you will get one. On embarkation day, go to your assigned dining room (noted on your cruise card) and find your table. If it does not meet your desires, then go see the maître 'd. He will be in one of the MDR's in the afternoon. The Princess Patter will tell you where and when.

Talk to the matre d and you don't have to tell them but it would be nice.

Thanks a lot for your answers! We will cross the bridge when time comes!!! But it's good to know it's possible to make a change.

The time is now. If you wait until after boarding the soonest you will be moved to a two-top would be the second night of the cruise. Go into your Cruise Personalizer and change the table size to two. If it does not let you do this (sometimes the options are only 4, 6, 8 or 10) call Princess or your TA to get the request on the record. And if you did book with a TA you need to let them know that you are not happy they did not ask you about table size at the time of booking.

Thanks fishywood, I will do just that!!!

Thanks for all your answers. I've just changed it in Cruise Personalizer. The table size was set to 4 and was able to change it to 2. I' m now waiting for the confirmation.

It will not be confirmed until the cruise itself. Your cruise cards will have your dining room and table number on it. You will need to visit the dining room to see what size table you were assigned.

Also, be aware that if you want to meet with the Maitre'd, it is first come, first served. The line can get long. I normally go about 30 minutes early and read while waiting in line.

That's very true. We once were on line & there were a couple ahead of the line who were making arrangements for their whole group of around 30 people. It must have taken them at least 20 minutes at the Maitre D's table alone just trying to get things straight.

It pays to be on line as early as possible if you have a special request.

We had to meet with the Maitre d' on the CB earlier this year.

It was almost like the opening scene in "The Godfather" where people were led one-by-one to the Godfather to seek his favor.

First we were handed a number when we entered the dining room being used and sent to sit in the dining room away from the Maitre d'.

Then when it was almost our turn, we were moved to chairs much closer to the Maitrte d' where we could see him, but not within hearing distance.

And then at last we were escorted to seats at the table where the Maitre d' was granting the favors.

Did you kiss his ring for a favor?

On one cruise on carribbean, there was a waiting list of 50 couples

for a table for 1, so you could pretty much kiss anything you wanted,

and you weren't getting one.

Also, when you go to the dining room to meet with the maitre d'...

The hostess has a list of current assignements. If you just want

to check your assignment, you can usually just ask her, and not

have to wait.

We were on a similar cruise (Grand, I think) where they weren't giving out any reserved tables for 2 (AT dining) at all......except during the cruise there were many couples already seated at the same tables as you entered the DR every night. When I asked about it the Maitre d' would only shrug & walk away.

I knew a couple at one of the "special reserved" tables and they acquired their seat with the help of a little bribe as probably did most others.

Interesting to read all your experiences. Yesterday I received a confirmation from my TA. We will have a table for 2 for the lenght of the cruise. But I will check upon arrival to make sure. Should I need to see the Maitre D I will go very early!!!

Yes, you will need to check. You don't know for sure what you've got until you board in spite of what the TA says.

What is confirmed is that you will be at that seating with a request for a table for two.

Your table for two is only a request, not a guarantee. We always request a table for 2, but have been assigned to tables for eight, tables for six , and tables for four.. On our last cruise, we did get a table for two.

Go to your assigned MDR early to find your assigned table. If not to your liking, go see the Maitre D' who will try to accommodate your request.

You do not have to advise anyone you will be absent in your MDR.

Good luck, and happy sailing.
