NavarreCruiser Posted August 17, 2018 #7 Share Posted August 17, 2018 Being Platinum or Diamond doesn't mean very much on Carnival these days.
Lottacruises Posted August 18, 2018 #8 Share Posted August 18, 2018 Hidden? It seems they have hidden some we used to have pretty well.
bobsfamily Posted August 18, 2018 #9 Share Posted August 18, 2018 The "hidden" benefit is the knowledge that you get to your cabin anytime you get on AND usually your luggage is not far behind. The "free" water and other bennies are nice but that's a big perk!
mets123 Posted August 18, 2018 #10 Share Posted August 18, 2018 The RCCL equivalent is diamond. There you get free drinks daily and $250 balcony discount. That's good loyalty benefits!

We're Platinum/Carnival, and Diamond/Royal! The free drinks are 3 per day, which is nice! Royal's prices with the $250 discount are still much higher, 'on average', then Carnival! We chose the lower prices on Carnival over RCL's 3 free drinks!;) Haven't been on RCL since 2012!

40yearcruiser Posted August 19, 2018 #20 Share Posted August 19, 2018 If you are looking for good loyalty perks, look at Princess cruises. The perks for Elite include free internet, unlimited free laundry, one time stocked minibar per cruise, priority boarding and tendering, and more. And it's part of Carnival Corp so you get the shareholder OBC. Also gives OBC for military and veterans. There is also a special lounge every evening for Platinum and Elite members with reduced price drinks and really nice snacks. The ships don't have as many activities like water parks as Carnival ships so may not be as fun for children. Just something to consider when you are choosing to cruise. Can the whole ship fit in the Diamond lounge and be served? Even with a limited drink menu?

And the Princess Loyalty program counts either number of cruises or sea days to determine level. A limited number of Elite cruisers with the most sea days on each cruise receive extra perks. This is an example of a well managed and likely sustainable loyalty program.

Even with a limited drink menu? Like Carnival's Platinum count the number of Diamond C&A members continues to grow. But it is not and never will be even a majority of the passengers on a cruise. The Diamond lounge does get crowded on some sailings, but Royal will often convert an extra lounge into an overflow Diamond lounge if there are many Ds and D+s booked. Royal started loading drink tickets on cruise cards to try to alleviate some of the demand in the Diamond lounge, but that is only buying a little time. Eventually Royal will drop Diamonds from the perk and make it D+ only. and then that too will pass.

That rumor and speculation has been and still is making the rounds and has gained a lot of traction. Only time will tell if that comes to pass. But Royal surprised me a number of years back when after eliminating the Diamond access to the concierge lounges, they added Diamond lounges to most ships. I turned Diamond right before that change was made and did make the effort to cruise on their Freedom class more often which were built with Diamond lounges. Then they added them to most of the other ships.
