My first time using Priceline and here is what I got for a pre-cruise stay in Long Beach:

Date: 10/28/06
Number of NIghts: 1
Hotel: Long Beach Hilton
Rating: 4 star
Area: Long Beach, CA
Site: Priceline
Winning Bid: $80

I was very happy with this price. Thanks for this thread! I probably would never have tried this if I hadn't read all this great information!

Rejected at $80, rebid $85 and rejected, rebid and accepted at $ high as I was prepared to go. Had been bidding off and on for the last couple of months, bids ranging from $70-$100, all rejected. I think if I had waited a few more weeks, I might have been able to get an $85 or $80 bid, but since my backup room was $131+ and was a lower rated hotel in a less attractive location, I'm satisfied. Lowest online price I could find for the Westin on that date was $199+tax.

How far in advance did you bid on your Vancouver hotel? I'm looking to try Priceline (for the first time) for our cruise out of Vancouver next July.

Has anyone gotten the Coast Hotel in Long Beach lately? I've been unsuccessfully trying to get a 4-star and would consider going down to a 3-star...but... want to see if anyone has been successful.

Does any one know If you bid on the area San Pedro is it only hotels in San Pedro that they look. We are thinking of bidding for a 3 star but donot want too far from the port.

Yes, if you just bid in San Pedro, the only 3 star hotels are the ones near the port. I've won bids there three times in the past for what used to be the Marina Hotel (now the Crowne Plaza).

I just got the Hyatt Regency at Long Beach (11/10) for $69.00. Total was $86.74 for one night. (then we'll use the Doubletree park and cruise package in San Pedro.)

Using Priceline in Hawaii for Waikiki is frustrating because there is not enough bidding information to be very helpful. Also, there are very crummy rooms at the Sheraton Waikiki (unremodeled, no view) that make bidding in the resort category tricky. For 12/11 - 12/13 I couldn't get 4* or resort at $140 risking the poor rooms, so I gave up. In the end I used the Entertainment Book and saved $20 a night over the lowest price online by calling the hotel and getting their "Travel club" rate at $179 + tax for the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach.

My bid of $68.00 was accepted at the 4 star, Westin Hotel, Long Beach, California for April 6, 2007, for a total of $85.55 with taxes. On the hotel website, it shows the cheapest room rate of $209.00 for that date.
