Cruiser Bruiser Posted January 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 26, 2016 I'm super excited about Getaway sailing the Baltic. I've wanted to do that itinerary for awhile, and now I can do it in a studio cabin. The alternative was a sailing on Koningsdam, which I'm sure would have been much more expensive. Thanks, Norwegian, for shuffling the ships!
retiring soon Posted January 26, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 26, 2016 HI all! I'm with you Cruiser Bruiser wanting to do the Baltics in May 2017 & hopefully can now do it in the lovely Getaway studio & not the older Star! I can hardly wait until the 9th to book!:D ~ Jo ~ :)
njhorseman Posted January 27, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 27, 2016 (edited) Someone needs to tell either NCL or Cruise Critic's editorial staff that Copenhagen is in Denmark, not Germany. Apparently the Getaway will be cruising from Copenhagen, but the article says it will be based in Germany. gwsster Posted January 27, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 27, 2016 This is great news. I do wish that NCL would do a British Isle cruise with the Jade. Rare Huntingdon1701 Posted January 27, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 27, 2016 This is great news. I was planning to do Scandinavia and the studios (and al other amenities) will add so much to it. Plus there is the chance of affordable short breaks from Southampton in the Jade. It's like Christmas all over again.

The same for Jade in Southampton, Hamburg and obviously Amsterdam.

baxter binx Posted January 27, 2016 #10 Share Posted January 27, 2016 This also means that NCL will not have a ship leaving from the port of Miami for the summer of 2017. Bummer....

Cruiser Bruiser Posted January 27, 2016 #13 Share Posted January 27, 2016 Hi where did you see that they will start running alternating itineraries on Escape? It's mentioned in their press release from yesterday: "Norwegian Escape, Norwegian’s newest ship launched last October, will spend summer 2017 sailing alternating seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises year-round from Miami, starting on May6, 2017. The Eastern Caribbean itinerary includes stops in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; Tortola, British Virgin Islands and Nassau, Bahamas, whereas the Western Caribbean cruises visit Roatán, Honduras; Norwegian’s private destination Harvest Caye, Belize; Costa Maya, Mexico and Cozumel, Mexico." https://www.ncl.com/press-releases/norwegian-cruise-line-announces-ground-breaking-european-summer-2017-itineraries
SoBe2010 Posted January 27, 2016 #14 Share Posted January 27, 2016 That is not what NCL's press release says. It says that the Getaway will be based in Copenhagen. Only the Jade is mentioned as homeporting in Germany. The Cruise Critic article mentions Getaway being based in Germany. It certainly does. But only the german ncl press release. Very likely that the getaway will only be promoted in germaan speaking markets as homeport warnemünde.

That is great news. Lots of people want to do B2B to experience everything on the ship, I always thought that NCL was shooting themselves in the foot running one itinerary. This is a plus. It does decrease the number of berths in the Caribbean in the summer, so prices likely to remain firm or increase.

Jane Don Posted January 28, 2016 #17 Share Posted January 28, 2016 I am wondering if the Getaway will be returning to FL in October 2017. I want to be on that transatlantic. There is so much to do on the ship and we could tour Europe beforehand, either on a ship or by rail.

PatJim Posted January 28, 2016 #19 Share Posted January 28, 2016 This is somewhat confusing about the Jade. NCL's press release yesterday implied it would be based in Hamburg from May 14 through Oct. 9, 2017 (see below). Your press release implied it will be based in Southhampton, U.K. Bookings for the 2017 European itinerary open Feb. 9th. Guess we'll find out soon enough which is which. "Marking the first time that Norwegian will homeport a ship in Hamburg, Germany, Norwegian Jade -- one of the company’s four Jewel-Class vessels -- will feature brand new cruises from Hamburg in 2017. Following an extensive dry dock in spring 2017, she will arrive essentially a new ship featuring Norwegian’s new standard of excellence the Norwegian Edge™ on May 14, 2017. Until October 9, 2017, guests can embark from Hamburg on a series of seven- and nine-day Western Europe cruises; nine- and ten-day Norwegian Fjords cruises; 12-day Norway & North Cape sailings; as well as a 14-day Norway, Iceland & UK cruise." Here is the answer: "a first ever complete season from Hamburg on Norwegian Jade, with embarkation for those cruises also available in the UK and Amsterdam." Essentially, you can board the cruise in Hamburg, Southampton or Amsterdam, whichever works best for you. But Hamburg is the official HOME port. The same principle applies to Epic. It's home port will be Barcelona, but folks can embark the cruise in Rome or Marseille.

sverigecruiser Posted January 28, 2016 #23 Share Posted January 28, 2016 you can board the cruise in Hamburg, Southampton or Amsterdam, whichever works best for you I really don't like that! Then it feels more than transportation between ports than a cruise! The special feeling the first night is lost when it's not the first night for everyone.
