Nieuw Statendam

We are looking at a 14 night Eastern & Western Caribbean sailing next March :p

Has any one sailed on this new ship & if so what was your impression of the foo d quality ,service & presentation , the comfort of the cabins & the general over all look of this new ship ?

You'll have to wait a while for reports as it is still being built. First cruise is early December from Italy to Ft. Lauderdale.

The Nieuw Statendam is a Pinnacle class ship, sister to Koningsdam. Koningsdam is contemporary in design, cabins are comfortable with wonderful glass walled showers. All verandah/balcony cabins have sofas. It is different in that the promenade deck can be narrow in places and there is no "library" per se. It has an additional specialty restaurant, Sel de Mer featuring seafood. The food quality is quite good in all locations. Music walk is the live entertainment area. Three distinct types of music!

And you won't find any lounge chairs on the Promenade Deck like on other HAL ships.

WOW! That is a disappointment. We really enjoyed that option on the last two HAL sailings. :(

You will find your chairs conveniently located on your verandah!

In addition, There are many loungers located on various decks outside to enjoy.

I'm with you. Far too few shady areas.

So, the library is gone. Crow's Nest no longer has piano player, Promanade Deck is narrower & now, no chairs! Who makes these dumb decisions? I noticed 2 yr ago they introduced weird plates in MDR that make it impossible to place knife on edge without falling onto your plate.
