knittinggirl Posted May 29, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 29, 2018 How has Key West gotten rebuilt after the hurricane? We just saw a town in Florida on the news that was still under water w/ little repair. Will it be up and running by November, or will we find a lot of closed stores/buisnesses? Langoustine Posted May 29, 2018 #2 Share Posted May 29, 2018 It's been up and running normally for many months. KW was not badly affected by Irma. What you're probably looking at is recent flooding on the mainland from Alberto.
BNBR Posted May 29, 2018 #3 Share Posted May 29, 2018 You couldn't tell a hurricane hit anywhere near Key West a few weeks after the hurricane. If you are visiting on a cruise, you would never know, especially now. It's totally normal and has been for quite a long time. I stayed several nights in Key West in January. Completely normal. Rare Host CJSKIDS Posted May 31, 2018 #4 Share Posted May 31, 2018 Key West is perfectly fine. Other than some streets not having as much tree coverage, you would never know that a storm had gone through there at all. I've been down there twice in the last few months and it looks fantastic. Heading back down Friday for the night! There are still some towns in the middle keys where you will still see damage, tarps and believe it or not destroyed mobile homes still lining the side of the road. Some hotels are still not open in the middle keys, Mariner's Hospital won't be rebuilt for some time and is still operating out of trailers in the parking lot. CT Sean Posted May 31, 2018 #5 Share Posted May 31, 2018 My wife and I were there for several days back in December. Other than a couple piles of palm fronds, you couldn't tell a hurricane had gone by. I'm sure those piles are long gone now.
