If you believe those on the thread about Cuba changes, everyone is going to cancel what they've booked

Not sure what to believe. Sounds like to me most plan to fill out the forms that indicate they meet certain requirements to go on own or book a private tour. Matters not to them what the US Regulations might be.

Here's part of a letter sent out by Azamara cruises regarding the changes. I'm assuming that Royal will follow similar procedures.

Dear Guest,

Effective November 9th, new regulations regarding travel to Cuba were initiated by the U.S. Department of Treasury. These rules apply to all travelers boarding a ship in a United States port, regardless of nationality or country of residence. Simply put, everyone must adhere to these regulations, and, with this in mind, I have great news. <img width="515" border="0" align="center" class="yiv7242977828ycb1176544387" style="line-height: 1.2em; outline: none; width: 515px; max-width: 515px;">Cuba presents an unforgettable opportunity to be among the first to experience people, places, history, and culture that have remained off the map of travel enthusiasts for generations. Having been there myself in preparing to deliver Azamara guests the finest experiences, I can tell you that Cuba will both open your eyes and enrich your spirit. It's a nation of contradictions, broken in many ways and, yet, beautiful in so many more. It's classic American cars rumbling down dusty Havana avenues. It's music-filled streets that play well into the night. It's the smell of hand-rolled Cohibas surrounding curbside cafes, and connecting with locals who are genuinely enthusiastic about sharing their home with new guests. Havana is safe, passionate, colorful and about as welcoming an island as you'll find anywhere in the Caribbean.

There are a few things worth noting regarding the new regulations. If a cruise has been booked and payed for prior to June 16th, 2017, guests are free to go ashore independently. If not, under the new rules, guests must travel with a tour group. I would highly recommend this, regardless, as we've put together a menu of unique experiences designed to present Cuba in the most immersive, insightful and convenient ways imaginable.

This is a dream situation for the cruise lines and the Cuban government.

All day or extended tours allow the line to have meal inclusive tours which increase perceived value and increase incremental revenue of excursions, with stops only at designated shops that pay the cruise line a cut and they save costs onboard the ships at the same time with passengers returning just in time to fill the bars and dining venues.

The unfortunate effect will be that monies spent in Cuba will have a narrower distribution benefiting a few dominant actors and the Cuban government. The Cuban government can also gain more control over the experience.

Interesting, this indicates cruise was paid for prior to June 16th, 2017, not just booked. Something to think about.

The Majesty of the Seas Deployment shows the ship moving from Tampa to Port Everglades already at the end of October 2018, when Brilliance and Rhapsody return to Tampa for the winter season.

Sailings to Cuba are already in place prior to the future April 2019 continued deployment.

The difference appears to be that the ship changes to 2 weekly sailings after April of 2019

Majesty is simply doing what Empress was already scheduled to do. It's just a simple ship swap here.

The Empress sailings out of Miami are what would be considered "new".

Yes, but some had thought the move was only to Tampa. It was a move to Tampa and Port Everglades.

The ship continues from Port Everglades through May of 2020 with yesterday's bookings with the Key West port agent confirmed.

Empress continues from Miami year round through May of 2020 from Miami then.

Port St. Maarten cruise schedules had been taken off line for a couple of weeks and just returned as available to view.

It is interesting that all RCI bookings after January of 2019 had been removed from the booking lists.

I was hoping for some leads for Grandeur bookings there as that was always a pretty reliable source of future RCI bookings.

I knew RCI was building a port development at St. Maarten, but I was not aware that they might have their own piers. This might just be them going in and rescheduling all the ships that have been moved around I would guess.

For sure no Vision Class will be moved to TUI Cruises as they are currently replacing similar old Celebrity ships (Galaxy and Mercury) with new ships.

In 2018/19 they will also not sell a Vision Class to Thompson Cruises (now Marella Cruises) as part of TUI Group as they get one ship per year from TUI Cruises (Galaxy in 2018 and Mercury in 2019), that is enough growth for their smaller fleet.

But didn’t that all change this week?

I agree with all (or most)

Serenade to Miami????

I think Voyager (or maybe Explorer) will be used to replace whatever Navigator did. Southampton sailings and then the 5/9 sailings from Miami.

The only reason they could be an element of fact here is that TUI deployment had booked a ship called Discovery3 at Gibraltar last April and recently at Riviera Ports.

Vision is booked at ports for Barcelona and NOLA in 2019 and 2020.

Without St. Maarten or Canada port bookings it is not possible to verify Grandeur yet.

I also do not think it will happen.

That said, depending on the success of CTrip booking small ports in China for turnarounds they may want to have the sister ships from TUI UK, Galaxy and Mercury.
