Since the tipping debate is back in full swing, I'm curious about how honest people are about how much they tip on a cruise.

So here's a poll. Please be 100% honest! Your answers are confidential. I don't care if you tell everyone that you remove the auto-tips because you want to tip in cash and then you don't. I want honest answers.

Once again, this poll is confidential. Thanks for your time! :D

What are your normal tipping habits:

- Auto-tips + some extra cash for those deserving

- Auto-tips only

- Remove auto-tips BUT I normally tip MORE than the auto-tips in cash

- Remove auto-tips BUT I normally tip LESS than the auto-tips in cash

- Remove auto-tips. NO tips at all

I always do auto tips and extra money for my room steward (if they did an excellent job, which they almost always do) and extra for my MDR wait staff (if their service is good, sometimes yes, sometimes no)

I ALWAYS auto-tip.

Sometimes, I will give extra to those who go out of their way to make my cruise more special.

Same here.

My auto tips are pre-paid before I even board!

I won't be seeing them on my Sail & Sign account.

They are a Done Deal. Months ago.

I routinely give five extra tips in addition.

* Three to my wait-staff-team in the Dining Room

* and the cabin steward/ess and his/her assistant.

I'm not cheap..even though I'm only (temporarily) a Thousandaire

Oh hamburgers. Why is this little thing such a big thing on this board. Pay the folks their tips and get on with life.

LOVE the graphic Poll results at the top of this thread!

So! It's clear that the generous ones

outweigh-by-far the cheapskate but vocal minority! :)

How revealing!

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread

and that graphic display at the top.

But some us us auto tips Plus types will still defend others who want to do something different because it's none of my business what others do.

So cruisers do what you like - it's your money and it's your service experience. Tip how you much want, when you want, the way you want, and enjoy your cruise.

Are there SERIOUSLY 3 people that don't tip at ALL? How CHEAP can you possibly be? All of these people on the cruise ship, work their tails off for you, and their pay is minimal, and you give them NOTHING??????? If you give them nothing for tips, clearly you cannot afford to cruise. Unreal!:mad:

We consider the auto tips as part of the fare & pay them ahead of time. I tip our cabin steward $20 on the first day then another $20 on the last morning. They have always deserved it. Plus I hope that offsets all the cheap people that stiff them. I will never understand how they justify doing that.

Hi

I do the auto tips and usually leave extra for my stateroom crew on the last cruise I was on in April the wait staff was terrible and I left the tips on but I am cruising again in November and if the service in the dining room has not improved I will remove part of the wait staff tips and leave it for my cabin steward. I have always had excellent cabin stewards but lately the dining staff leaves alot to be desired ex: I have to ask for bread, lemon for water and then for more water when I finish the glass I have not very attentive in my opinion. I think it started when they went from the envelopes to the auto tipping.

just my opinion but to me tips are for good service not for just doing your job.

Auto tips here as well. However, I wish the tips were put on at the end of the cruise as... I NEVER EVER pre-tip for any service when I am at home....I have always believed that a tip should reflect a service that has been given and just not assumed that you get a specific amount because you are overworked and live in a place that is less desirable than others. I know quite a few people that I could say the same thing about that live in my city.

It is just easier to auto pay when I am on a cruise :)
