Breaking news: Carnival legend collides with rccl ship!

No hard feelings. I’m sure our discussion is for the best of interest to our fellow Cruise Critic friends.

:)

No offense taken...:D Just trying to warn people of the dangers of those networks. But I don't think the Coke thing is a right comparison. There are instances of someone's head that were posted on these sites that have turned up on someone else's body, etc. in questionable places and no legal help because of their contract. It's a conundrum, but worth considering before relying on your copyrights as you post pics. Nuff said.

Sue, take those Spin to Win coupons to the casino and you will correct that deficiency in no time flat. Keychains are practically guaranteed.;)

Not for all of us. I was on the Enchantment OTS Sept 24-28 (just missed all the excitement). I had coupons for 4 free spins. They give you 3 tokens per spin. Tried 3 times and got nothing, not even the keychain. So I kept the last 3 tokens as my souvenir. Better than a keychain anyway.

Carnivals blogger-in-chief, John Heald, was on the Legend at the time and added information to his blog. Sure enough, one passenger wanted compensation even though they suffered no loss. They should be charged extra for the entertainment and the story they'll be telling over and over again. http://johnhealdsblog.com/

BTW, I like RCL, but would have to say the best 2 cruises have been on Carnival. I am a beef eater and they had better cuts and consistency than I've had on RCL recently. Last week on Enchantment OTS, I commented that RCL had come up to Carnival the first two dinners. Unfortunately, they did not sustain it for the next 2 dinners. Still enjoyed the cruise and would sail either Carnival or RCL again.

I think what really happened was that all the passengers on the Legend headed over to the port side to admire the Enchantment as they went by. Thus tilting the ship in that direction.

I thought the Carni Operator was distracted admiring the Enchantment and drove where he was looking. Enchanted by the Enchantment if you will.

I avoided posting it because I had left my flame-retardant suite at home. but since you opened the can.... :p

Yes there are some real concerns with posting your information on any of these networks or even anywhere online if you want to get picky. This is all controlled by the sites EULA (End User License Agreement) from when you sign up, which you had to do to sign up to CruiseCritic also.

But just because something is posted in a EULA doesn't make it law or fully binding. Just as if the EULA somewhere in the fine print said that because you've signed up for this website all your property now belongs to CruiseCritic or Facebook. They could put that in there, doesn't mean squat until its fought in a court of law. Same reason why just because you post an image or video on any of those websites doesn't exactly mean you give up sole possession of that work and even more doesn't mean that anybody in the world now has permission to use it because its "magically" become public domain.

The problem with posting something online is that it is tough to police the spread of that file or information once its out in the wild, not that its now "free" for anybody to use.

Also on the side of "viruses" and such.... no offense but your husband is being a bit paranoid. If he doesn't allow you on Youtube then this forum is MUCH MUCH more dangerous that website, better hope he's not logging your usage..... :) Anybody can post a link to a malicious website in the body of a message here that can completely take control of your computer instantly, especially depending on what browser your using (aka Internet Explorer...... or any other really). Even worse, I hope you don't use e-mail either or wifi, much worse than any website. :p

Just like in real life, the internet is a dangerous place. But that doesn't mean we don't go outside, so you can tell him he can loosen up a little bit and enjoy Youtube, Facebook, and whatever major website. Your best defense, just like anything, is to learn and use the internet intelligently not just avoid everything....

You have it backwards, it's binding until a court determines otherwise.

Just got back from Cozumel...we were on the Valor and in port with the Legend and Enchantment in Belize....so that was all the buzz.

It is always funny to hear how out of control the "facts" get. By the time the word hit the Valor in Belize (perhaps the word HIT is a poor choice LOL)

folks had one having a huge gash with passengers being evacuated to another cruise ship.

Thankfully those exaggerations were quickly put to rest.

On another note.... Paradise Beach had the joyful experience of all their water toys being broken from their anchors and tossed about.

The GOOD NEWS is that only one toy got slightly damaged...but since they have added so many toys the count is up to TEN (without the damaged trampoline)...all was good on Friday when we were there.

:) We were on the Starboard ship-side when the collision happened and felt no contact whatsoever. The instructions from the bridge were incredibly clear and urgent to clear the port area as the side-winds against the Legend were over 50mph and were driving her to near the Enchantment. As you can witness from others great pictures not all passengers appears to take these instructions with any degree of seriousness. Some had to be physically removed from the pool complete with drinks in hand.

If accurate it was reported that it was the Port pilot that was doing the maneuvering and the Legend Captain had to override him to prevent more damage to the ships.

The journey continued with what I can only describe as incredible service from all the staff on the Legend and apart from the incident was the best cruise we have been on (and we have been on quite a few). Congratulations Carnival Legend.

To the credit of all on board, with the exception of a few jokes ( CR wearing life jacket at the show) I never heard one passenger complain or mention anything about free handouts. There will undoubtedly be someone with a vivid imagination but thank goodness we did not meet each other.

We were just going into the dining room. The collision was very mild, more noise than anything. We were asked and did clear the decks. The majority were crew members running out to the port side on deck 3. The winds never hit 50 mph. Check out wunderground: highest recorded wind gust was 29 mph and at 5 pm, 8 mph with just over 15 mph from the west. Now, since we were there, I have to say, this was poor judgement. IF, the wind gusts were that high (since a weather station did not record wind gusts that high.....), I could understand it but, they weren't. They did hit the pier at the stern first and then collided with Enchantment. I did of course joke about open bar to get over the trauma........;)

Thanks Julieanne for the "wunderground" weather report. However I did not pick the number of the wind velocity out of a hat.

I quote from Carnival October 1st 2009.,

"While maneuvering our departure from Cozumel, UNEXPECTED winds of 50 mph pushed this vessel (Legend) against the RCC Enchantment of the Seas"

Captain Giacalone Carnival Cruise Lines.

This communication was issued to all passengers on-board the Carnival Legend.

I do appreciate that if you were inside the ship approaching the dining room, as you were, the velocity of the gusts would indeed be hard to judge with any degree of reasonable accuracy. However I was outside on the Starboard side where the wind was plummeting the ship and I was having considerable difficulty continuing to photograph under these the conditions, a problem I rarely encounter to such a degree at 29mph.

I do agree that regardless of the exact velocity and remember the concussion effect against the "Imagination" and the "Legend" would make the decision to depart at that particular time more in question. No doubt the Maritime Board of Enquiry as well as the Insurance companies will sort this out.

Thanks for your interest and reply.

I should have known you were involved in this incident somehow. :D

That is correct.....

Almost....:D! At the Panama Canal, the pilot is in control, command and assumes complete responsibility. It's fairly simple, if the ship, captain etc. don't accept this, then it is the long way around:eek:! Pilots in harbors elsewhere are in an advisory capacity.
