I voted Galveston....even though New Orleans is closer.....

I think the faithful in Texas have earned it!!!

My DW is a Texan..... she would say..."Yeee Haaaaa to Galveston :D

Being from the Baltimore area, I would like her to reside near me. However, the northern cruises can be a bit chilly during winter months and there are 2 days at sea just to get down to port canaveral. So, I'd really like her to reside within a decent drive to the south...say NC or SC or GA. Why not, say, Savannah, GA? Why isn't there a port there? That would be ideal for me.

I vote other. It should leave from Chicago, IL. We have a big lake, of course there would be no duty free stuff, casino or nowhere interesting to go....

Oh crap, looks like we will be flying to go on our next cruise.

I voted "Other" as in Toronto.

I have always wanted to live near a cruise port. That way I can take more frequent cruises like our Cruise Critic neighbours to the south. Plus, I think it would be nice if one of the major cruise lines have a Great Lakes itinerary.

The only thing is that most cruise ships are too big to go through the locks and the Magic is certainly too big.

This was on John Heald's blog today about a great lakes cruise.

Let me first of all show you a reply to a question made by a blogger about cursing the Great Lakes. This reply was written by our Senior Vice President Terry Thornton whom I thank so much for taking his valuable time to write this reply, here it is:

Dear Mrs. Hume,

I want to thank you for your recent letter. We appreciate your time and the opportunity to hear from you about Great Lakes Cruising.

We agree that having a Carnival ship operating in the Great Lakes during the summer season would be a huge success. We actually studied this very carefully about 4 or 5 years ago. Unfortunately, we discovered that even our smaller Fantasy-class ships (70,000 tons) cannot reposition into the Great Lakes. The ships are too large to navigate through several of the locks that are required in the transit from the Saint Lawrence Seaway into the Great Lakes and between several of the Great Lakes.

I think your itinerary suggestions were really strong and we could definitely visit some exciting places in this region. The tourism benefits would also be significant.

We want to thank you for sailing with us on the Carnival Pride. These new cruises from Baltimore have been very well received by our guests. The convenience and affordability for guests that live within driving range of Baltimore is very important. In addition, the Carnival Pride is a beautiful ship and the officers, staff and crew do a great job in providing fun and memorable vacations for our guests.

Thanks again for sending us this exciting new cruising idea.

Best regards,

Terry Thornton

Senior Vice President – Marketing Planning

No matter who gets this ship be prepared to pay 25 to 50% more for a cruise than on the ship she replaces.....;)

Although sailing on the "Dream" was nice I can't see the additional cost....

By the way...Magic is going to Port Canaveral to do Sunday sailings while the Dream does Saturday sailings. They will do reverse schedules with each other. While one is doing eastern the other will be doing western. Then the next week they switch schedules.....Need to compete with the two new Disney ships........;);)

There is only one terminal that will support the Dream class ships. Carnival uses it on Saturdays and Royal Caribbean on Sundays. So if the Magic was homeported in Port Canaveral, they would have to build a new terminal.
