What is the easiest way to purchase stock? I have a very very limited knowledge of this.

thanks

I use Scottrade, $7.00 trades plus no inactivity fees. Be sure you choose one with no inactivity fees or you will be paying a fee each month you do not trade. You can do everthing right online. Even set up to transfer funds from your bank account. Stock is down under $38 right now was up to $44+.

Hi,

Krazy Kruizers says << Don't purchase stock through a Schawb account.>>

Why do you say that?

I always send the stock credit information directly in to HAL. I have found that occasionally, some other cabin credit magically “disappears” when the stock credit is posted by a TA. So I take care of the stock credit myself.

LuckyLoon, the board of CCL has to vote to continue the benefit each year but it's been in place for quite a number of years so I doubt it will be rescinded but you never know.

I had bought CCL stock years ago and tried to get the credit for a HAL cruise and they denied me because I was traveling on a discounted ticket. I had my TA ask them what that exactly meant since many others said they never pay full price and always get the credit. All they said was they wouldn't allow it because of the discount I was already getting on the price. I sold the stock after that at a profit! I decided to buy more later on and tried a couple more times to get the benefit but not once would HAL grant it. I then tried when we booked a Princess cruise (14 days) and they gave it to me - the ticket was not full fare, I had OBC's from my TA as well the credit from using a future cruise deposit. I'm going to try again on our Statendam cruise and if they deny it, I'll fight it.

Doug, I don't understand why you would not get the OBC for owning the Carnival stock..It sounds very strange to me..:confused:Are you trying to put the Carnival OBC thru your TA..If you are, then your TA is doing something wrong or just refusing to put it thru to HAL..;)My suggestion would be not to go thru your TA for the Carnival OBC..

We book thru a TA which usually has group space blocked so we get the group rate, which is in effect a discount off the published fare....In addition our TA give us an OBC & we get an OBC by booking a future cruise credit on board..

Our TA does not handle the Carnival OBC for us.. About 90 days before departure & after final payment is made , we Fax or e-mail a copy of our brokerage statement with all details such as account No. & other stocks whited out directly to HAL..We give HAL our booking numbers, travel date & ship..We get always receive an immediate reply from Karen & have received our Carnival OBC in addition to all other OBC's...On our San Diego round trip booking last Nov. we actually received $500 in all our OBC, plus wine & Pinnacle dinners..:):):)

Cheers..:)Betty

Hi Betty,

I know but that's how it happened. I faxed the info to HAL and they told ME no. I then had my TA try and they told her no. I had posted my questions about the OBC on CC and asked if only people who paid full fare got the credit and everyone assured me they didn't pay full fare but got it. There is some wording in the benefit description on the Shareholder Benefit page that gives them some lee way to deny the credit but it's vague:

This benefit is available to shareholders holding a minimum of 100 shares of Carnival Corporation or Carnival plc. Employees, travel agents cruising at travel agent rates,

tour conductors or anyone cruising on a reduced-rate or complimentary basis are excluded from this offer. This benefit is not transferable and cannot be used for casino

credits/charges and gratuities charged to your account. Only one onboard credit per shareholder-occupied stateroom. Reservations must be made by February 28, 2011.

What does 'reduced rate' mean? Seeing as they are the ones making the decision, who do you take up the decision with?

I think you need to push it up the ladder at HAL not rely on what is said on a message board. There are times when some folks post information that is not 100% accurate.

is based on their standard fare before the TA discounts and is not a special fare that is well reduced beofre they offer the fare it would qualify. Sometimes they sell a package of cabins or a cruise at a greatly reduced rate. So far I have never run into a problem and my TA always discounts the fare. My next crise I have 3 sets of obcs , stockholder, past cruise booking and HAL offered credits.

Hi Lorekauf,

But who do you escalate it to? If they say no, how do you get around that person/group/department to take it higher?

I would ask to speak to their supervisor, but maybe you already tried that. To be honest I've never had a problem with that particular issue but have had several others. It seems like the wording on this would stop you from getting the OBC but others seem to feel different so maybe it's possible. I've just seen way too many people giving incorrect info on this website when they felt they were sure they were right.

Why don't you try asking Dutch by Association this question? He is a HAL employee and is very helpful.

Doug...I've been thinking about your problem, realize what you are saying & also wondering what kind of a discount you are receiving...

When I worked for the Airlines, we were able to purchase Interline Discount Tickets...Our fare came to approx 25% up to approx 50% of the published fare, only on certain cruises & not for all cabins...Our tickets were always space available up to about three to four weeks prior to departure.. In that case neither DH nor I would qualify for the Carnival stock OBC..

TA's also can purchase discounted Interline tickets & there are Military discounts, Government discounts etc, none of which qualify for an OBC from owning Carnival stock..Sorry but can't remember all the discounts avail on cruise lines which do not qualify for this... I'm also not sure if you would qualify if you are on a Charter..

However, if you are booking thru a TA which has group space blocked on a regularly scheduled cruise which is not a charter, & you are paying HAL's group fare which is actually less than their individual published fares, then you should be entitled to the OBC...

Unless you can tell us what kind of a discount you are on, then we probably are not giving you an accurate answer..;)

Cheers....:)Betty

  • 4 weeks later...

I was just denied OBC for my cruise next week. I booked through an 'Interline Agency', however, the price I paid for the cruise was identical to what I could have gotten through Orbitz or Travelocity. Not too happy. There really is no such thing as 'Interline Rates' anymore. Maybe 10 years ago interliners got a good deal but ever since the internet they just don't exist anymore.

OK I understand...Anything booked through an Interline Agent will not get the OBC as it's considered a discounted fare...Does not seem right as you say you can get it for the same price on Travelocity or Orbitz..BTW our Friends received a discounted fare through an interline Agent on our Nov. cruise...She is retired from SAS but her fare was only a little less than I could have gotten from our TA...So understand what you mean about Interline discounts not being so great any more..And to top it off I received an OBC from our Agt & she did not.. ;)

So, if HusbandTours and I jointly own 100 shares in a brokerage account and book two cabins (1 adult and 1 child in each), can we recieve two credits?

No because you jointly own 100 shares & are only entitled to one OBC for your 100 shares, even if you book two cabins..Now if you purchase 100 shares in your name only & your DH purchases 100 shares in his name only & you each occupy separate cabins then you would each qualify for the OBC..

no -- one cabin per cruise

I disagree with this: If I own 100 shares in my IRA & book one cabin with our Granddaughter under my name I will get the OBC..Then if my DH owns another 100 shares (total 200 shares ) only in his name in his IRA or Brokerage Account & books one cabin under his name with our grandson, then he will also get an additional OBC for his cabin..

That was confirmed according to post no 42 in this thread, when poster "tamsocial" contacted HAL & even confirmed that one credit card can be used for both cabins..

However if you both jointly own 200 shares in both your names only one cabin will get the OBC..

Again it must be 2 separate accounts of 100 shares each & separate cabins occupied by each shareholder..

Cheers...:)Betty

I just purchesed 100 shares and going to sail 1/8/2012 on the carnival legend is it to late to get the OBC thanks

I believe the request is to be submitted to HAL at least 2 weeks prior to sailing. But, you can try ... nothing ventured, nothing lost/gained.

The request has to be submitted at least a couple of weeks in advance of a cruise.

They need time to verify that you do own the stock.

You may get lucky -- but 3 days from a cruise -- tricky.

I would e-mail the information given in earlier posts about your booking-including your name, sail date, cabin number, ship, and booking number. I attach a statement from my online account showing my stock shares. Then call the 800 number listed to see if you've gotten the credit.

Thank you.[/quote']

Yes ... just send in proof of ownership at least 2 weeks prior to sailing, sooner than that if possible.
