GorillaPaper Posted July 15, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 15, 2011 We are sailing on Epic March 3, 2012 and so I thought I was see what everyone likes about it? I have of course read the reviews and much about the bathroom situation, but I'm wondering about what kind of things people do like about her? I haven't cruised before so I have nothing to compare. We are in cabin 10093- "deluxe balcony/mini-suite". Very much looking forward to our cruise in March! :D
david_sobe Posted July 15, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 15, 2011 This question is hard to answer in one word. I like all the entertainment and things to do. You can NEVER be bored on this ship. Even the in room TVs have first run movies and a very long list of channels. Some have called it Las Vegas on the high seas. I think that sums it up pretty well. Because of this, I think Epic upsets the traditional crusier who wants ocean views and the daily show every night. I tried to see and do it all and failed miserably. Dont set yourself up like I did. Discipline yourself to realize you cant do it all on this ship. I loved the piano bar. It was a great place to end up every night between shows or before bed. The comedy club was the same. I only saw the jazz club for about 5 mins and never made it back. Never got to bowl or see the magician either. Loved the ICE Bar and every night deciding where and what to eat. I ate at a specialty restaurant every night and still did not get to eat at some. I NEVER at the Manhattan Room or Taste. Hard to imagine, right? So, my short answer would be "All the fun" My next Epic cruise, I am never getting off the ship at any port. Yes the cabins are a bit strange and very small but the events on board make up for those short comings.
GorillaPaper Posted July 15, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted July 15, 2011 Sounds great - I am slightly concerned about the size of the cabins as we have never cruised before and we are used to huge hotel rooms. I'm going to have to keep remembering to pack light!

So - you have not cruised before and already have TWO in your signature - impressive! It sounds like you are preparing to have such a good time on the Sky that you already have your Epic lined up!! Aside from the Sky, our only other NCL sailing was on the Epic. I know that you'll enjoy the Sky (don't miss the Buffalo wings!), but the Epic will blow your socks off!! HAVE A BLAST! We've always done all-inclusive resorts but I find myself bored sitting by a pool in the sun for a whole week! I like to have things to do while dh sun bathes, so we thought a cruise would be a great idea to make us both happy.:)

mypleasure Posted July 16, 2011 #14 Share Posted July 16, 2011 Best thing about the Epic is it cruises in Europe for many months out of the year and I have no interest cruising in Europe or the Epic. More space for me! I loved the Epic and I loved cruising the Mediteranean What I loved most, well i'm not sure. Was it the crew and the wonderful service or was it the Blue Man group or was it just all the people we met on board. On reflection it was probably all of that plus the totally unique ship that was just fantastic. I'll be going on the Epic again.

Minoushka Posted July 16, 2011 #16 Share Posted July 16, 2011 I enjoyed EPIC so much last March when it was REALLY crowded that I am going back The service was top knotch .I loved our cabin and I found the bathroom layout GREAT . One could use facilities while one showered ...so that was convenient ...hairdryer was great under the desk. Lots of storage space but do get a BALCONY insides are tiny plus I did visit studios ...COZY small is the word ..I am TOO claustrophobic for those!!! PLus I prefer the BIGGER ...unfortunately .....more expensive balconies ..I had a lounge chair put in I could stretch out while my son was sleeping or getting ready I loved the endless Casino ..loads of fun penny machines The pub had good food and I did try TASTE and enjoyed it tooMy favorites were MODERNOS AND CAGNEYS the Salad bar was SCRUMPTIOUS I loved the grilled meats from the Brazilian restaurant.I did Not care for Italian or Japanese nor BISTRO but that is personal choice I really enjoyed Cirque,Legends, but I did not get BLUE MAN ..but my son loved it ...I think its an age thing I found EPIC great fun but a week was too short ...hence my return ...If you like BIG ships you will like this one I also loved the icebar Go Enjoy You will like this ship I REALLY did Ps One night I wanted SEARED TUNA I spoke to restaurant manager who had it done special for us It was UNBELIEVABLY GOOD WE had it at CAGNEYS I found all the Officers REALLY nice ...got a tour of the bridge and GALLEY with the executive chef ..got to see I-95 ...the highway in the bowels of the ship where everything is transported -HU_U_U_GE I'm telling you these people are NEAT and Organized VERY IMPRESSIVE Michele Go to CC meeting and meet all staff members GREAT FUN

myrtle1010 Posted July 16, 2011 #18 Share Posted July 16, 2011 Spice H2O anytime especially when on the open sea or docked or steaming out of port ... well anytime really. Garden Cafe was the only place I ate except for one night at Cagney's (V V good). Cirque Dreams unmissable. Slam Allen fabulous. One week was not enough so went around again a week later and still haven't had enough .. Stayed in the studios both times and more than adequate for one .. barely there anyway. Also the coffee machine, cookies, breakfast, snacks and drinks in the Studio Lounge! Staff, crew everyone great! LOVE IT!
rav4lady Posted July 16, 2011 #19 Share Posted July 16, 2011 I have sailed on the Epic twice now and have another booked on her next November(2012)...LOVE this ship. Loved the cabin layout and the more than ample storage, no need to pack light. Theres plenty of room to put everything. The cabins themselves are a little smaller than others, but quite adequate and the studio was fine for one. BUT my most favorite place was the Thermal Suite...or was it Spice H2O or was it Taste? Guess I liked all of them a lot! The sushi bar was great too, especially for lunch when its not that busy!

jmcdon7230 Posted July 16, 2011 #22 Share Posted July 16, 2011 My favorite thing about the Epic was the ala carte sushi bar. I believe the other NCL ships just have "all you can eat" sushi. My wife's favorite was Armando in the Martini Bar. :-)
Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted July 16, 2011 #23 Share Posted July 16, 2011 ...My wife's favorite was Armando in the Martini Bar. :-) ahhhh yes, ARMANDO!! It was a nightly stop for us. cruise pup Posted July 16, 2011 #24 Share Posted July 16, 2011 I'll be good and only mention my likes: O'Sheehans - Imagine having breakfast anytime you want? And it's good. Service is outstanding. In fact the staff made me want to come back as much as the food. The rest of the menu was pretty good too. Only some of the daily specials weren't the best. Churrascaria. Hands down, the best meal I had on the ship. Go with a group. It's more fun. Fat Cats Jazz & Blues Club. Music is really great. But my timing was lousy. I usually would walk in and they would be finishing up a set. Barber Shop. I needed a haircut badly and went on boarding day. Got a very good haircut and it wasn't outrageously expensive. I think $25. for a shampoo and cut. Taste Restaurant. The food wasn't so great. The service wasn't memorable (one breakfast toook so long I had to leave for a shore excursion before they brought out the food). They use place mats instead of table cloths. There was something missing from the place setting that would be standard on any other ship (but I can't remember what). The piped in music was too loud. It's more like a glorified diner than a formal dining room. But you got seated right away and you could wear shorts at dinner. Public Sundeck on Deck 18 (forward). The glass elevator on the starboard side by The Great Outdoors restaurant will take you right up there. If you want a little more peace and quiet than what you have going on by the pool then this is your place. Since my cabin was all the way forward it was an easier option than Spice H2O and food was just an elevator ride away.
