Show off your high sign and sail bill.....

On our last 7 day cruise our sail and sign account was $1730 for both of us. That includes alcohol (and we both drink expensive drinks), spa treatments, steakhouse, gambling and a few pictures.

We do whatever we want, whenever we want, with no reservations. I need a vacation from my vacation by the time we get off the ship and wouldn't have it any other way!

Do you ever think to buy someone a drink? like some really nice people that you meet? soda or wine or whatever? or do you say....can I get you lemonade from the fountain? lol.

LOL!!!

Our tab for 2 adults and 2 kids during our 7 day was about $2500, but that includes excursions as well in that amount (wow, that Atlantis Dolphin excursion was crazy exensive!!!)

Anyway, aside from tips and excursions- most of our charges were bar related (love my DOD!!), casino charges (my hubby loves Texas Hold em'), charges for after hours care in Camp Carnival or some of the extras like Build a Bear (so that hubby and I had time for DOD and Texas Hold em" ;)). We also bought quite a few rounds in the Ivory Bar for our awesome piano player and some friends we made in there (isn't it funny how someone can be drinking Bud Lite but when you offer to buy a round, they suddenly develop a thirst for Heineken )

Oh, and pictures too- how could I not buy each and every one of them when my kids are just so darn photogetic ;-)

I try to save where I can in my everyday life so that while my family and I are on vacation- we can splurge. True- maybe if we tried to pinch pennies while on vacation as well, we could cruise/vacation more often, but for me it is about quality, not quantity...:)

Hi All,

Other than excursions, which I could see will run up a bill, what can you possibly buy on a ship to have bills that high?

Not commenting one way or the other, just have no idea what you guys buy.

enjoy,

Duane

Oh, it's easier than you'd think! Have you priced drinks on these ships??

Some charge their gambling to their S & S card. It's like an interest free ATM plus if you pay with a Carnival FunPoints card you get double points. I can see easily tacking on $100+/day (for 2) and the S & S bill getting larger. Any winnings go home in the pocket. :D

Uhh....certainly not from experience...oh noooooooo...not us!

I'm just sayin...

Or jewelry. Or perfume. Some buy their significant others something nice...to cover up the gambling charges on the S & S. Again, just sayin. ;)

EDIT: Before someone tosses grenades at me for this post, I'll add that nobody in their right mind would do this unless they KNEW they were going to pay in full upon getting the CC bill.

Love this thread! Lots of fun to read. I have also enjoyed the threads titled "Least $$ on S&S"

I am more likely to post on those threads then on this one. One thing I don't get though.

Nobody went on the Cheapskate threads to brag how much they spent so why are people posting here how little they've spent.

And why are some tsk tsking on how other people spend their own money? It's not your money!

The same reason that some are "against" additional perks in suites... or expanded perks for the past guest program...

$2700 for 7 nights for two of us...much of this was done by gf in the jewelry shop...go figure. $900 for two of us on the last 7 nighter, about half on drinks, and the rest of it on duty free liquor and excursions. Oh...and pictures, even though we didn't buy alot of them from Carnival.

Well, hubby & I got married on the Spirit in 2003 and bought many pictures and had the huge portrait made and bought the DVD of all the wedding pics. Many drinks and lots of gambling later we walked off the ship with around a $7,800 S&S bill. Yep, those were the days.....Certainly wouldn't do that again. But, hey, it was our wedding and honeymoon and it was very memorable!

Buying drinks for people you meet on the ship that you are having fun with.......

thanks....correct....and I appreciate you understanding and clarifying....look....if people struggle to pay bills, etc. I get it....I just was always annoyed by the cheapskates I have known in life. Those that take don't give....seem to not have money in their pocket so you hook them up anyway....people that never open their wallets and bring the cheapest thing to a party or bring nothing at all....that kinda person. move on.....good posts here.

All of the above are perfect expenses IMHO...hehe. I especially like the surprising a stranger! Once in a while when I go to a Starbucks drive-thru I'll pay for the car behind me...makes me feel so happy! :p

I do this in tolls....I think that people really feel good about it....the starbucks thing was done to me but at a dunkin donuts. I thought....how cool is this person....little things in life...right.

My guess is because those that spend nothing do have some bucks and never go overboard for others....sure they might for their kids or grandkids but when their neighbor has a party (if they get invited), they bring one bag of chips instead of a nice bottle and some shrimp....and they know they are wrong but love to outburst comments like: "thanks for paying for my cruise". Good for them.

I was knocked back like $8500 on a Peter Max. Like you, I will never go to the art auction drunk again... I have it at the top of my stairs and I look at it every day and remember not to drink and shop! Although I did feel like Donald Trump during the process, they do a good job of buttering you up.

Mine were Tarkay's. Nice art but wouldn't buy it on the mainland! I too look at them daily and wonder "what I could have done with the $6,000 I spent on these". Live and learn...

On our very first trip to Vegas (4 or 5 nights I think) I managed to win $6,000. Oddly, that is exactly what we spent at an art gallery (The Forum Shops - Caesars)...

You're wrong......

Some people know how to spend money wisely. Others throw it away. Spending money wisely doesn't mean you're cheap....it means that your financially organized. Throwing it away, if you go into debt to do this, doesn't mean your rich or generous. It means you can't handle finances.

One such type will never "understand" the other....(money....the leading cause of divorce)

I love gambling...I go every week...but I have a budget. When I lose it...I go home. I am certainly not cheap as far as spending....but I don't buy overpriced art or jewelry.

And yes...I do thank those of you who spend so much for subsidizing my cruise. :)

You seem to be overly obsessed with how other people spend their money.

I've just learned not to spend my time with cheap people. They take advantage or others who are generous.

I have seen the type. They never give to charity, have a net worth of about $12, but love to buy booze at the bars so they think they have friends.

They also typically go home to 5 digit credit card bills that they perpetually pay the minimum payment due on.

But hey, they got plenty of "friends" down at the bar. lol.gif
