About 1600..and of that, 1000 was for a visit to the ship's doc for my mom....(she wound up being able to continue the cruise....but is now cruising in heaven)....

generally we used to spend between 400-600 give or take, depending on where we were and what we did...

now i spend about 300 bucks....mainly on a wine package, some pix, maybe some stuff in the shops, and the occasional excursion and bingo.....tips are already paid with my cruise fare....

This is a fantastic thread! I have cruised once (last October) on the Liberty, I honestly have NO idea how much our S&S bill was. I just know we had a great time! I sail in 14 days on the Ecstasy, and I have NO budget for the upcoming S&S account. CHEERS TO EVERYONE ON HERE WHO HAS A BLAST (no matter the amount on your sign and sail)!

I don't think I have had one under a thousand yet for a seven or more day cruise! Of course, that is for two of us. Mostly all drinks. But, we always have a great time!

It's no wonder that Carnival is getting more serious about enforcing their alcohol policy (smuggling)! :D

I was knocked back like $8500 on a Peter Max. Like you, I will never go to the art auction drunk again... I have it at the top of my stairs and I look at it every day and remember not to drink and shop! Although I did feel like Donald Trump during the process, they do a good job of buttering you up.

Wow, we came home with one of those too but my hubby said he won it. :-|

My wife and I cruise on the Sensation in October on a 3 night cruise (jr suite). Cuise (+ tax and travel insurance) $1,500, airfare $500 (one ticket was free with freq flyer miles), 2 nights in a hotel on Coco Beach before cruise $200, Shuttle transportation from MCO $100, 2 tickets to Kenedy Space Center $100. So far, approx. $2,500.

But we have special circumstances that keep us from being able to plan in advance and get good deals. We have a special needs child that we have to plan provisions for. So, we can't plan but a couple months in advance for a vacation. We could not get a 1 week respite bed reserved (in a institutional level care facility) for her in Oct. until the first week of August, so that eleiminates the 3 month in advance savings. If the state of Oklahoma does not approve her for TEFRA (we applied in May, when she was no longer eligable for medicaid), then I will have to pay for the institutional care out-of-pocket which will probably raise the cost of the 3 night cruise to over $10,000.

My turn...

We were on a family cruise in July on the Dream. Definitely not our first cruise, but our S/S bill was over $2000 for 7 days. DH, DS and me had a lot of fun! Hubby had too much fun in the casino, and we shared rounds with family. DS (14) had signing rights but spent less than $200 the whole time. We allotted him $50 a day for arcade, souvenirs, and fun drinks. His number also included his Soda sticker. We were proud!

Our bill included gratuities and Steakhouse but no excursions. We did those privately. We tipped extra in cash and bought souvenirs on land, and we had a night pre-cruise in Cocoa Beach. Grand total for this trip (cabin cost was a Christmas gift) was well over $5000!!!

Best vacation ever!:D

You're wrong......

Some people know how to spend money wisely. Others throw it away. Spending money wisely doesn't mean you're cheap....it means that your financially organized. Throwing it away, if you go into debt to do this, doesn't mean your rich or generous. It means you can't handle finances.

One such type will never "understand" the other....(money....the leading cause of divorce)

I love gambling...I go every week...but I have a budget. When I lose it...I go home. I am certainly not cheap as far as spending....but I don't buy overpriced art or jewelry.

And yes...I do thank those of you who spend so much for subsidizing my cruise. :)

I have a lot more reading to do on this thread (its the first time I've seen it).. but WAIT.. didn't you post the "points system" for food so you don't pay for others waste?? You like that some people spend too much on stuff like art and jewelry, but want us to go on a point system so you are not paying for our MDR meals? Cause you strickly eat in the buffet in your short and flip flops? WOW talk about wanting to have your cake and eat it too! (oh wait - I forgot you don't do desert)

OK now I've read all the posts..

My highest bill (just mine) $1900 10day Princess cruise last March. A few excusions, many bottles of wine, Lots of After dinner drinks and TONS of casino.

Lowest bill $5.49.. 7 day Legend last November. Everytime I hit in the casino I used a portion to pay down my account.

When I take a cruise I don't want to think budget. I want to drink what I want and buy what I want. But I never spend what can't be paid off immediately. Cause then I can start saving for my next cruise. I guess that is all I do.. Save for my next cruise.. But life is short and you can't take it with you. My father is 84 has congestive heart failure and alzhiemers. We took a cruise last November thinking it would be our last. Well God has smiled on us and we are doing it again in 30 days. And it will be wonderful.

My family of 5 just returned TODAY from the Imagination 4 night from Miami...family includes myself, DH, DD 7, DS 3 and DS 3. I am sad to announce our 4 night cruise sign and sail bill this morning was $2094 and some change after $64.00 OBC. Only $45.00 of that was for Camp Carnival. I am happy however, to announce we did received free drinks in the casino  This included drinks, Casino, Camp Carnival, liquor from the shop and 2 cartons of cigs, no excursions for us this trip and does not include the price of our cruise.

I have read alot of this thread...and all I can say is ...I am scared...:D

Went on a 7 day cruise in 2007 and cannot remember what we spent number wise. We do not drink or gamble, although bingo looked fun. The cruise was a gift from my dad for my bachelor degree. We went on two excursions one with ship and one without. Bought one soda card, one or two special coffee's, seems like some stuff in gift shop. We would go and put cash on the card and watch it then go put more etc...so we didnt have a bill at the end. This was during a time where DH and I were on a consumer credit counseling type situation paying down our debt etc. We ended up going home with about 400 bucks etc. I remember pre-paying tips and sending myself gift certificates etc. prior to the cruise.

The cruise in seven days from now is yet another gift from dad for the MBA degree. (you would think I would have an actual real good paying job by now..ehh)

I am somewhat a coupon freak...I dont have a garage full of stock pile but I do have 2 4 ft by 2 foot tall pantry's in the house one for food one for toletries etc that are full!! I used 522.00 in coupons from May 1 to July 1. My excursions are prepaid one in each of the three ports total is 419 so the coupon usage paid for the excursions and I havent bought much food, toiletries or laundry soap since July. I have prepaid the tips 160. I have put 50 bucks in certificates on the account. I have prepaid a cake and a t-shirt to be in the cabin for my DH for dealing with me for two years working and going for the MBA.

And will hopefully have 1000 on top of that (but am scared after this thread). We dont have credit cards that we want to use unless extreme emergency, as I did not get trip insurance early enough in the 14 day (or however many days it is after booking) window...so would only use it for that type of emergency.

We had issues with credit cards and being young and dumb and not disciplined with them early on. We had basically no entertainment budget and no b-day gifts, no x-mas gifts for eachother for the first five years of marriage...so we are afraid to spend a dime most days.

All of the above are perfect expenses IMHO...hehe. I especially like the surprising a stranger! Once in a while when I go to a Starbucks drive-thru I'll pay for the car behind me...makes me feel so happy! :p

It feels so good to be the reciever of that act of kindness. I know it sounds cheesey but it makes the world seem better. We usually get free drinks when hubby is in uniform on formal night...sometimes even the whole table. It's nice to know that people appreciate our service too.

As for a tab...my fist cruise was $0 compliments of mom and stepdad being that I was pregnant and my hubby was deployed. Our last one was like $700 or so but much of that was excursions and gratuities for a 7 nighter.

DH & I budget $100/day/per person for every cruise's onboard account. This does not include excursions, port spending $ or casino $ (those are extra). We usually get a check under the door on the last night for something under $100. We pre-load our sign & sail for the $200/day and pre-pay everything we can (hotel, rental car, port $, excursions, etc.). That way, we can enjoy ourselves without ever worring about money since we can only take one vacation/year. We want to totally relax and not be afraid to buy a drink or book a massage.

Our last cruise was about $700 for 2 adults, 1 child and that included 2 days of excursions, tips, a few t-shirts, pictures and a few drinks.

The cruise before that we did 4 days of excursions, had a few drinks, shopped in port & on the ship and that bill was approx $1300 so I guess we didn't do too bad.

So are you saying that if some people don't like to socialize with complete strangers on a cruise and buy them a drink that they are not generous people? And if some people don't purchase items that they don't want or need, they are stingy?:rolleyes::confused:

Give it a break, "cool" Breezes.

Carnival Pride 2009- $2074 S&S Just DH and me. He had just finished chemo and he bought art at the auction and had it framed and shipped to our home. DH is the most frugal guy around, but that was his celebration and the framed artwork hangs in our living room.

We usually average $400-$500 per cruise and that includes tips, gambling. We prepay for excursions
