waldocruiser1 Posted August 26, 2011 #151 Share Posted August 26, 2011 You also forgot the really bad word TIPPING! It always causes a fight.
funinthesun1964 Posted August 26, 2011 #152 Share Posted August 26, 2011 oh and not only tipping, but leaving "gifts" with the tips. Will they be tossed in the trash, or cherished? Phone cards? LOL
99Cruiser Posted August 26, 2011 #153 Share Posted August 26, 2011 On a 10 night Princess cruise my bill was over $5000. NO, I was drinking too much or getting too many massages...just 2 massages and some drinking. My wife bought 3 pieces of art at the art auction. It was our honeymoon and she wanted stuff to remind her of it. That was 15 years ago and those pieces still hang in our house. On that same cruise I saw someone in the art auction buy at least 7 pieces and some were as much as $5000. His bill must have easily been over $10k
mj6743 Posted September 3, 2011 #154 Share Posted September 3, 2011 I posted on here earlier. I don't post often just for these reasons. People just can't comment on the post. Someone always has to assume the "better than thou" attitude. The post was "How much have you spent on a cruise". Stop judging. It is the individuals choice as to what they want to spend. If you don't like the thread don't comment. It's that simple. No one is asking for anyone else's approval. I work hard for my money and if I want to spend it on Charities I will. If I want to spend it on a cruise, I will, it's my choice.
sarsie Posted September 3, 2011 #155 Share Posted September 3, 2011 And I thought my SINGLE solitary self, traveling with my parents on a 7-day (not quite what you think mind you), had spent a lot--$500 or so. I bought a few doubles for entertainment staff (wow, doubles are spendy!) and a few drinks I don't EXACTLY remember buying, and some pictures...and I get a $500 bill! ROFL NOT INCLUDING gratuities and excrusions -- all prepaid!!
sarsie Posted September 3, 2011 #156 Share Posted September 3, 2011 And pulling kids out of school to vacation;) yup, bring it on. Doing so in January. Suck it up. Not your problem, right? :D I can't afford to take four children when school is not in session. We homeschool two, and one is not in school yet, one is in HS. She is forewarned her grades must be up and not behid on work or she gets to tsay with Grandma. My dh is military and we only have certain times we can cruise-so if they don't like it. OH WELL. Don't care. My family is my business and anyone who doesn't like it can stick it where the son don't shine! :D
canadiancruiser13 Posted September 3, 2011 #157 Share Posted September 3, 2011 What we spend is our business and nobody elses imho. I totally agree with you, how we spend our money and what we spend it on is our business.
connieh1968 Posted September 3, 2011 #158 Share Posted September 3, 2011 Two years ago we went on the Valor. Husband, myself and 3 year old. Drinks, gambling, pictures, perfume, tips, shore excursions, miscellaneous gifts and booze was around $2000. We never really go with a budget. Heading on the Legend next September. Buying the photo passes and drink passes ahead of time just to see if that helps cut down on cost. We know our money and just don't spend outside it. Just blessed that we are able to travel several times a year. Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk

misguidedangel Posted September 3, 2011 #161 Share Posted September 3, 2011 Oh my, some of your sail and sings are not that bad at all. My top three sail and sgn balances are as follows, but first I have to say that I sail solo, so these totals are for ONE person..*BG*....you can't say I don't enjoy cruising after seeing my totals.. #3 $1350 Liberty #2 $1850 Splendor and #1 is $2100 Triumph (the onboard shops that sell bling bling is quite tempting judging by the modest diamond and tanzanite I took home on that cruise.... I save for my cruising budget and for a while there my bank account had a nice balance...That is not the case now as my S&S budget is typically $800-1200 max. I get away once or twice a year and I truly enjoy my time on the ship.....and no, most of it is spa and shops.....alcohol is too expensive..no, I will smuggle booze in to help me with that and only get one or two drinks a day. AnitaVacation Posted September 3, 2011 #162 Share Posted September 3, 2011 Just wondering.....those s&s totals.....does that include your cabin or just what you spent once you got onboard?? I think the highest our onboard account ever got was approx $800....this was 7 days, drinks, one or two nights specialty restaurant, coupla souvenirs, and gratuities.....this, of course, does not include what we dumped at the casino ;) or any money spent in ports.... We don't buy the photos (ours are usually awful)....we don't book the overpriced excursions....if we do an excursion, it is usually less than $40pp (I think those days may be long gone).....we prefer to do our own thing in port....once, we did the Kennedy Space Center...pricey, but nice....(and it kept the dh happy (: )
Teamv Posted September 3, 2011 #163 Share Posted September 3, 2011 I was just wondering if your S & S bills increase with each cruise. We were on our first cruise this past winter and spend a measly $300 for a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teens), and that included $150 of OBC!! Our shore excursions and gratuities were all pre-paid. Our charges were for pictures $36; bingo $85; 2 soda cards; daily coffee at the coffee bar, adult drinks and a few miscellaneous things. As newbies to cruising we never hit the art auction, didn't discover bingo until the last 2 days of the cruise, were too busy to go to the casino and luckily for us, didn't get our "sea legs" right away and found that more than a drink at a time made us both feel queasy. So, what do you think? Now that we know all the ways to spend our money, are we doomed for a bigger bill on our second cruise next year? :)
Room Service! Posted September 3, 2011 #164 Share Posted September 3, 2011 No our bills didn't increase, kinda' stayed within a $100.00 of the previous.
peepaw Posted September 3, 2011 #165 Share Posted September 3, 2011 But what if you don't go on a ship to meet people, socialize and buy them drinks? What if you are there to have fun with your family and you avoid the social situations where you socialize with others? Is he then saying that makes one stingy??? That's the part I'm trying to figure out?? Where does the stingy part of his quote come in? While I cannot speak for him since I cannot read his mind, the impression that I get from his post is that if we were to socalize and be enjoying each others company I may buy a drink for all. If you did not reciprocate and buy me a round back but continued drinking, You would be considered stingy. If however we never met to socialize and you did not buy me a drik and I did not buy you a drink neither of us would be considered stingy.:D

Our bill has gotten higher pretty much every year.......especially since our first cruise in 1999 when we paid $2.50 for a beer:rolleyes:

Blondie008 Posted September 4, 2011 #173 Share Posted September 4, 2011 Our last cruise was the most expensive ever, and one of the worst ever.. Our suite and flight was over GBP 10k, guess thats about 16,500$, (for two of us)then two days in new york, 12 nights cruise where the weather our of NY was rough so more time spent in casino on first and last days. RCI just didnt hit the spot for us. On top of that we paid for MIL to come along sharing cabin with our niece. Our daughter was on board, with her boyfriend who became her fiance on board, so .... drinks all round for the family everywhere! In the end, we didnt have much change out of GBP20k:eek: NEVER AGAIN! Money doesnt always buy happy times. THAT suite brought us nothing but misery. Endless complaints from one cabin below us re the piano, until in the end WE complained about the complainANT! We vowed then, that we would never again go on that "once in a lifetime" suite. Our next cruise, 14 nights B2B, with carnival, has cost for two of us including flights, GBP 3.5K, we have an aft extended first leg, then an ocean suite second leg next door to our friends who are joining us on the 2nd leg. We always guestimate cost of cruise = cost of spends. Other expenses will be UK overnight hotels, and pre cruise FL hotel. I am SO looking forward to this cruise, and feel already we have had good value for the cruise and flight price. Of course, a lot will depend on board on the current rate of exchange. I am buying up cash dollars in advance when the rate is good, that always helps:) We tend not to police our spending on board, but no way would I take the same route as the last cruise. We didnt get into debt for it, we had the money (hard earned incidentally!) BUT it was like a little lesson in life, and on that basis, chose THIS cruise with a little more thought. I feel its just right, the cost great value, 14 days on board all in sunshine, a night in our favourite bar in FL, a night here in UK chilling out, good flight times, good all rounder! We ALWAYS have what we call "the loo roll" on our cabin door last night, we are big drinkers on board, but at least this time, we havent spent a fortune on initial cruise costs! Hoping we love Carnival!
AnitaVacation Posted September 4, 2011 #174 Share Posted September 4, 2011 On our last 'girls cruise', we had a last minute cancellation, so one of the ladies decided to bring her 23yo son for some mother/son bonding (all on her dime)...WHAT A MISTAKE!! As soon as we were on ship, he starts buying drinks FOR EVERYONE IN OUR PARTY.....I think after round 2 or 3, his mother pulled him aside and explained WHO was paying for this!! (not him of course)....fresh out of college with no job....the entire 5 days he partied like a Rock Star....spent nearly no time with mom....partied til 4 or 5am and slept all day....Our day in Nassau, she treated him to the Atlantis day excursion @ approx $150pp....and paid for him to ride around on a jetski for 20 min @ $50....I'm pretty sure he did some shopping onboard...got himself some new shorts, etc...his disregard for mom's charge card was unbelievable.... I didnt ask, but...her onboard account had to be very ugly.....
