Visits to the naughty room

Our trip to the "naughty room" was quite humorous! Maybe because we were the last two bags down there. No one could tell us where our luggage was. Not even the customer service folks. We finally just went down to the "naughty room" to ask. Fortunately, we didn't have alcohol or irons. We had Activia smoothies. We thought they would be ok because we have always gotten our luggage really fast. However, after the trip to the "bad place" we had to trash them since it had been 5 hours un-refrigerated.

The two men manning the "naughty room" were so funny. As we walked off the elevator, we turned to the wall and did a spread like they were going to search us. Then I requested a full body cavity search for DH "just in case". That lightened the mood from the beginning. The whole rest of the cruise they would pick on us as we boarded the ship, threatening to search us. It was great.

Do they sell Downy Wrinkle Releaser where you live. It works wonders! You can also use your hair flat iron or curling iron in a pinch.

We always bring Downy Wrinkle Releaser too.

Since you know they are prohibited and you are not trying to smuggle them, my suggestion would be to put them in your carry-on and just turn them over when you board. They will give you a claim tag for them and you can pick them up at the end of the cruise. This will save you having a piece of luggage confiscated forcing you to take a trip to the naughty room.

Agreed. This would be the most logical thing to do in the OP's situation.

Our trip to the rooom was funny, also. That time we were on the Carnival, and what got us was liquid fabric spot remover.

I see nothing funny about the danger of cigarettes, though. I would be terrified to be in a fire onboard.

We got called down once for a bottle of water i had left over from our pre cruise stay, had to waste and our hour for them to look and say oh its a bottle of water , Im like No sh it Sherlock, so ever since then we repack at our precruise hotel any liquids or anything with a cord goes in the carryon , I am not wasting my time down there for them to look for something that should go through.

It is not that I am trying to smuggle anything onboard

We always add 2-3 weeks land tour on before our cruise and in the UK and Europe they don't always have a kettle or irons in the bedrooms

So either they are in my suitcase or I would just have to leave them behind each time

Bring the iron, you will again end up in the naughty room. Just bring your tea. Most American hotels have a small coffee pot in them. As a matter of fact, I stay in many hotels due to conferences, and I don't remember one not having a coffee brewer. You can just run water through the brewer to make it hot and steep your tea.

On board, I like some of the other suggestions. Get hot water on board and make your tea that way.

By the way, we have Earl Grey Tea here now in most supermarkets. Isn't that a British brand? Or maybe I am assuming

Unfortunately for you, water bottles look the same with vodka in them as they do with water. Usually, they will ask you what is in the bottle first, then take the bottle and shake it. If it foams, you're fairly well scr@#$d. Watched security do this in Nassau, then escort the passenger away for some more conversation.

Any bottle with a broken seal will be tested. (Or just tossed) :o

GET A GRIP! When was the last time a cruise ship burst into flames because of an iron? Maybe they should confiscate cigarettes too because someone may sneak and have one in their cabin and leave it burning, or maybe an ash will blow off a balcony onto a towel drying on a deck below Hee hee hee...

Taking away the guest laundry is just another ploy for them to make money. ON our last NCL cruise. our room steward delivered an iron an ironing board to our room upon request! And Carnival has free self assist guest laundry areas.

Who made you the laundry police anyway?

Well speaking of my own experience I´ve been on a cruise that had a fire onboard caused by an iron in a guest room. No the ship did not burn down cause the crew responded very well to the situation and the smoke detectors and sprinkler system worked well too.

We all know though this could turn into a much worse situation and for a number of passengers this wasn´t fun at all with their cabins (those in the same fire section) soaked from the sprinklers and all their stuff wet.

Actually, they will allow you to bring pop and water aboard. Just no alcohol. You don't always get the correct answer when you call and ask, not sure why.

No liquids at all.

It is even in the FAQ if you would like to look it up

I'll say it again - This is what their policy states. Enforcement is entirely different.

On Navigator the naughty room was on deck one...when our second bag didn't turn up we described it to our room steward and a few hours later he told me he'd seen it "down in security" and I'd need to go get it.

Well, there was definitely something naughty in there (that I'd packed), so I opted to go down and face the music. The crew couldn't have been nicer, there's really nothing scary about it and by this point we were sailing so I knew I couldn't get kicked off of the ship! Turns out DH had packed his Leatherman (pocket knife type thing) that he takes everywhere, and we'd even had it on two prior cruises with no problem.

They asked if I had a Leatherman, I said yes, and they just asked me to open the bag and get it. It was fairly hilarious to watch my S L O W rooting around in the bag to find it, because while I didn't know where the Leatherman was I certainly knew where the REAL contraband was and didn't want to reveal it! By feel I finally found the Leatherman, they took it and gave me a slip of paper with which we could pick it up after disembarkation. I apologized and said we didn't realize it wasn't allowed and the crew member really could not have been nicer, said "No worries" and helped me put the bag back together.

And then I skipped all the way back to my cabin where DH and I did the happy dance because what we REALLY cared about was safe and sound :D

How dare you people put someone else's life at risk because of wrinkled clothing. Were it up to me the exit door from the naughty room would lead straight to the pier. RCL, if you're listening I'll be more than happy to throw people off the ship if you lack the nerve. It wouldn't take too many before everyone else wises up.

I sure hope they find and confiscate it. I don't understand why you would continue to try to bring something on board that is banned because it poses a fire hazard which could endanger others on board.

I am sure you look much better wrinkled than charred ;)

Happy Sails to You

OOOEEE :D:D Bob and Phyl

I don't understand why people just don't get it,,,things like irons can cause a fire,,and as for the tea,,just bring your own brand from home and they will accomodate you with hot water:cool:

If you have items confiscated, when do they return them to you (ie what is the procedure). I am concerned about hold ups during disembarkation.

We will be spending some time vacationing pre cruise and I like to take my instant Starbucks coffee along so we will be bringing a travel kettle

Thx.

Perhaps......... but I have been on many ships in the past where there were iron burns on the sofa and carpet............people can be so careless with the iron. Also Is'nt said when you see cigarette burns on the counter tops and tables! See this way too often

I just got off the Voyager out of NOLA this last week. When we got off the ship and on the way to customs, they had a big table set up with irons piled up on it that had apparently been confiscated and were tagged to be returned. I didn't look closely to see what else was on the table, but I was surprised by how many irons there were!

I'm not sure I even follow this logic: you're worked up about irons, but not worried at all about the matches and lighters carried around by smokers? Or the burning cigarettes that are left around the ship, on balconies, and maybe even in rooms?? To me, you either allow them all or allow none. JMHO.

Ok! but a lot must slip through on my last cruise Nov 2011 AOTH Malaga to San Juan the lady from UK offered to lend me her iron she got it onboard inside her husbands shoe and the one before on Explorer May 2011 the lady from Long Island offered me hers which wasn't even a travel iron it was her home iron. Both ladies were table mates

Just home from NCL Jade both iron & kettle onboard ! so its swings and roundabouts

Hot water is no good for making tea, it has to be boiling water. The Indy had a kettle in the room last year. So at least you could make a decent cuppa. Earl Grey tea isn't a British brand, it's a British blend. Black tea with bergamot. Named after a Prime Minister from the 1830's.

We will be in the USA for 3 weeks before our cruise now we love all things America but not their tea so have decided this time to bring our own
You can get hot water in the Promenade Cafe, and you can make your own tea with that.
