What do you like to see in a review?

I know it takes some "hangy-downies" to post the bad stuff here but if a review is all "pixie-dust and pudding" it's not believable. Same if it's all bad.

Without honest reporting this site is worthless. Much like the reviews of Yellow Dog Eats in Orlando. It's just not believable.

The best review I have read was by italianfemmy on her review: Carnival Dream Picture Review, December 10th-17th, 2011

She did an incredible job...

But my very favorite reviews are the ones by first time posters that complain about how terrible the entire cruise was and that Carnival is horrible and no one should ever cruise with them.. These are the obvious "trolls" that like to stir things up.. but it is fun to see how worked up some folks get over a non-existent cuises..

I plan to do a detailed picture review of our upcoming Fascination cruise. I was curious what peoples favorite things to see are.

What's not focused on enough?

What's overdone?

Personally, I have never seen a picture of buffet food, so I definitely plan to get that. I also plan to get the funtimes and menus for this particular itinerary.

1. No pictures;

2. No pictures;

3. No pictures;

4. No pictures of food;

5. No pictures of your family, dog, car, house or friends;

6. No personal information about you unless it relates to the pluses and minuses of the cruise;

7. No information on the drive down, the hotel(s) you stayed in on the drive down, the places you ate at your pre-cruise stay in wherever you stayed;

8. No pictures of the bathroom in the hotel you stayed at;

9. No minute by minute description of whatever you did on the cruise down to what you ate each day unless the meal was wonderful or was awful;

10. No "review" that will take me longer to download and read than the length of your cruise;

11. No paragraphs that run on for several pages with bad spelling and even worse grammar;

Remember, a review which is what you say you will be posting describes the good and bad parts of the experience, not every detail of the experience. A diary tells the story of your life in extremely excruciating detain. I want a review, not a diary.

Have I vented enough?

Thanks for all the info!

I will say that my review will be about how I saved money on things, and kid activities will be included since that's a big part of our cruise. I do plan to include the hotel we're staying at and the shuttle, but not the drive down because no one really cares about that, ha :)

No bikini shots either because I don't take pictures of others and me in a bikini would just not be good.

I like information-where did you stay before the cruise, where did you eat? That lets the reader know some options before they book the hotel. I like pictures of food, but not posted when they are so blurry, that it looks like you are being served mush and mold.:o. I like pictures of the cabins and the areas that you visit, dining room, lido, etc. I like to be "walked" through a ship.

What did you do on your cruise? What did you eat? Who did you meet? What did you do on your shore excursions> and if you did nothing, then what movies were being shown on the ship?

People read a review for three reasons- to be entertained, to be educated or because they are interested in the topic for personal reasons. Same reasons we all read books, or pick up magazines.

Have a great cruise, and remember the only person who has to be happy with your review, is you.:)

I like reviews that touch on a bit of everything. I do like to see photos, but since I cant figure out how to do so myself, I still read other's reviews that dont have photos.

I like to hear about pre cruise details such as hotels, and restaurants visited. I like to hear a bit about checking in and boarding, sailaway. Like to hear descriptions of the stateroom. I like hearing about people's opinion on the food, service, and entertainment on board. Also details on the ship and layout, and I also love to hear about the ports visited and what people did there.

I prefer a balanced review. While I enjoy the ones where everything is perfect, I do also enjoy the ones that are balanced with the good and not so good. I accept that not everything will be perfect all of the time.

Last but not least I enjoy the reviews that are presented with some humour, ie; ( glass half full ). Enjoy the great stuff, but the not so good comes with a good sprinkling of fun and humour. Wish I could write reviews on this board and include some photos, but just cant seem to get that to work, even though I have had many helpers.:)

One thing I enjoy is seeing pictures of the actual beaches that people go to. And by that I mean not just a picture or the cruise ship in the water while they are standing on the beach. I also like to hear about which slot machines people play on if they go to the casino. I also like when you don't have to scroll for five miles to read a review because the pictures that have been posted are the size of murals. But really I enjoy any review that someone has taken the time to post and for that I thank everyone who has.

I like it when people take the time to put their review together and upload it all at once so I can read the review without having to read all the "bravos" and "great work, keep it ups" in between entries... Otherwise, lots of photos, and anything you learned to do or NOT TO DO in any specific port. Thanks.

... remember the only person who has to be happy with your review, is you.:)

After reading all the answers on several threads about this, the above is what I'm going with. I took a lot of notes but not totally positive that I'm going to write. However, I do have questions:

- Do you prefer that we post our review on this board?

- Or at the official Member Review? I don't like that people can't respond over there.

- What about in our blog with a link from here? I suggest that only because I'm thinking the photos would take up pages here even if uploaded sparingly.

Thanks.

Im just excited that another descriptive review of the fascination is on it's way!!! I'm looking at a cruise on her next feb so I've been doing as much research as I can. I don't think there's such a thing as 'too detailed' when it comes to cruise reviews, I like the ones that read live novels with lots of pictures!!! :) have an amazing time!

My favorites are the ones with lots of photos, personal anecdotes, and hints and tips. I like to feel like I'm a friend of the reviewer goin' through the cruise album with them and sharing the fun. :)

LOL Or, "what kind of camera did you use?". As if they're immediately going to purchase the specific brand.

I like to see them broken up into paragraphs with a space between the end of one and beginning of the next. I find one huge block of text just too hard to read.

Agreed!

everything:)

pictures and more pictures and more pictures

short paragraphs

larger type (my eyes are bad)

all the fun stuff:)

You beat me to it. Make the font large enough for us old folks to read. :D

The problem with the bikini shots is concern that the photo or the review will be pulled.

Thanks to the OP for the thread, great idea. :cool:

Lots of opinions on here (surprise, surprise).

You aren't going to please everyone. So just please yourself.

I'm sure it'll be great, ... and informative. ;)

Myself? I like pics. I don't mind info. on pre-cruise stuff, but I'm really only interested in that if it's something that I've done or will, possibly, be doing.

Hope you and your family have a great one! :)

I like reading reviews that describe things that the reviewer thinks are a must see or do or things to avoid seeing or doing and why. I like to see descriptions of excursions that they do and the why/why not the reviewer would recommend them. The why's are important as they would tell me if the reason the reviewer likes/dislikes something is something that might matter to me or not, since most things are subjective the why's really do help in this area. I like to see lots of pictures (although I am not good at doing that myself :o).

Thanks for taking the time to do this and I look forward to your review.

I agree and please no food pics !

I love long, detailed reviews. Short ones, especially when they say something was bad or good but no details, just leaves me hanging.

I don't mind if the person complains about something they didn't like, as long as it is a balanced review. I mean, come on, everything couldn't be bad! If their review is all negative, I tend to just skim it and realize this person is basically just a complainer.

Love photos, of the ship and ports and stuff, not of the reviewer's family (save those for the photo album). I mean, a couple family photos are fine, but when it's just full of them I tend to skip over those quickly.

And definitely enjoy lots of pictures of the food, unless they're blurry then don't bother. :)

I enjoy reviews that also include a review and photos of the hotel they stayed in prior to their cruise too.

I really want to see ME in a cruise review! Lol!

Seriously, though, I enjoy personal accounts, photos, and descriptions of activities. I'm not much of a "food porn" fan, unless it's something unique. (I've seen enough WMC and lobster photos to get the idea.)

Have a wonderful cruise! My advise would be to avoid letting your review become a chore when you return. If that means keeping it short and simple, then so be it.

Please post your review here. Looking forward to it. You can go to something like PhotoBucket and down size your pictures so the whole picture fits on the computer screen at the same time. I think that pictures that are too big get "pix-a-lated" (sp) and lose alot of their stunning details.
