Herrrrrre we go again.....I am getting SO TIRED of opening up these threads, hoping for new info, only to find yet ANOTHER thread discussing the pros and cons of this program. Who FLIPPING cares what anybody thinks of anybody else's drinking???? And the program IS WHAT IT IS - buy it, don't buy it - WHO CARES??? Can we PLEASE just stick to posting on topic and list the new ships that are getting the program!!

Respectfully disagree with your bombastic comment!

It's my vacation too and I may not want to be surrounded by hundreds of people sitting around the pool who have each consumed ten drinks!

Okay...you just made my point for me.

My post was a statement about the fact that threads started in order to announce which ships are getting this program are continually being changed into threads about the pros and cons of the program, about people drinking too much, etc, etc.

Which you just did.

Again.

So...thanks for re-confirming my initial statemnt :D

Folks will figure they need to drink ten or so alcoholic beverages every day to get their money's worth.

Not sure this is such a wonderful idea.

I think your math is a little off. Aren't drinks more than $5/each? I'm thinking you could break even at around 6 drinks for the day at $8/each...which is really not that many for all day and night, wine with dinner, a few drinks at the casino or show or whatever, and one or two out by the pool. Plus if you get sodas and virgins with it, that's even less alcohol you'd have to consume to get your money's worth. I think it sounds like a pretty good deal.

I'm guessing that a lot of couples are going to be sharing though and Carnival will lose money and that will be the end of that.

Couples can't share unless they are in separate cabins. That is why they require everyone in the same cabin, over 21, to purchase the program. It's all or none.

I'm still a little mystified on the ships they have chosen to introduce this on. The Victory is port intensive, The Splendor has a hard time filling cabins because people think Mexico is evil, The Breeze is in Europe and the Spirit is going to Australia, starting with a leg to Hawaii beginning Sept 18.

There, how's that for being on topic.:p Seriously, does it make sense to anyone else?

It makes perfect sense to first try it out on these ships. If they lose money on these ships, its not likely they would go fleetwide.

I love this program and wish it were on the Dream when I go in two weeks...

I also opening this thread to get new information hoping for additional ships get this program only to find people complaining and calling people that want the program alcoholics and saying getting their monies worth, etc. Mind your own business, its ok to post opinions, advice and such but to assume that one is an alcoholic or going to "ruin your vacation" because they buy this program just mind your own business it doesn't concern you. Nobody can tell anybody what to do.

Cocktails that we drink are $8.95 plus tip, so drinking 5 drinks would cost the same amount of money but the good thing with this program is that I get to pay for it in advance and not have that at the end of the cruise. I rather give Carnival my money upfront and finish the cruise with not that bill to worry about.

That was my first thought, that Carnival set it up to fail.

Hmm, I dont see it that way, they are just covering themselves. Im sure the program will be a success and it will go fleetwide in the next coming months.

If they didnt want it, they didnt have to even do a trial.

I cant think of any trial they started, that didnt end up being implemented. Worse case they will tweak the program if they see its not as successful as they anticipated.

I still don't get why they choose those particular ships if you don't think they wanted it to fail so that they could say we tried it, it didn't work.

Do you remember shrimp wars? They took away our shrimp cocktails because they thought they knew what they were doing, but we won and the shrimp are coming back.

And then there is that whole FCC issue.

We're on the Splendor in a week and it has already disappeared from the reservation page because it's full, so I think you might want to update your thinking on the Splendor.

My company (more then 30,000 stores) pays 52 for a BIB. You know Carnival is paying less. You put ice in a plastic cup, you may be putting in 4 to 5 ounces of soda.

That takes the glass down to around 6 cents.

Carnival does not have fountain soda at all - it is all by the can.

And 5 drinks per day is not going to get anyone wasted. I don't understand why people are acting like it's such a big deal. We do all inclusive beaches where it's $50 per day for all you can drink, and I see very few people who are falling down drunk. We see more of those when we get back into port and watch people stumble out of Senor Frogs  If people are going to overindulge, it's not going to matter if it's prepaid or not.
