smoking on RCL

Recommended Posts

I've never seen a real cig glow blue/green, so my comment on that would eliminate posers and whiners. NOR real smokers who go "well, that guy did it, so I can light up here, too!"

I'm not worried about secondhand water vapor. If I was, I wouldn't be around anyone breathing. We all have water vapor in our breath.

Even if they ban smoking totally, they will still allow smokers to cruise. They still let smokers into cancer wards in the hospital! :p

;)

But, if Royal removed smoking from balconies and went very restrictive I would either have to find another cruise line or another vacation option. I'd like my husband to happy while on vacation and until he quits-that morning AM cig with coffee is first on many smokers minds. To have to get up, get dreesed, get a cup of coffee then find a place to smoke is not the way to start the day. Being an ex smoker I get it.

Sure-can smokers cruise-of course, but until then, we have to choose the line that best suits us. Just as others who do not smoke should do the same if it is a possible return to CC thread on how the cruise was ruined!!:p

Believe you me, I'd be all over Princess's Partial Canal and Celebrity's cruise out of Amsterdam. He's slowing down so my fingers are crossed we'll be on those ships soon!!!

That was an unkind comment and not necessary!! Unfortunately, many people who do not smoke get cancer....You are not very nice:mad:

they have different flavours, peppermint, cola, chocolate, and some places even allow you to create your own flvour, but, i guess, and only guess here, that it would be like taking a sip of lemonaid, unless you were actually smelling the persons breath...nose inside mouth like mamma checkin for liquor on an 17 year old, you wouldn't smell it.i use them and reg cigs , but i went down from a pack a day to a pack every 10 days or so.. they are great ffor me in the car or in my house, but just like i wouldn't just light up a gigarette, i don't just whip the suckers out at dinner and look like the penguin in a batman cartoon....wahwaahwah

FYI: There is NO nicotine nor tobacco in E-cigs, ergo, no smell. Water vapor DOES NOT smell....It's an illusion and a sense you are "smoking"....

They do not taste real...I use an E-cig w/ zero (-0-) anything...Just puff and out comes 'vapor smoke'.....

Don't knock it until you've tried it....Not everything is for everybody!

We had a recent "Meet and Mingle" thread going on a recent Monarch cruise. Everyone seemed to have clicked, however a certain couple after the cruise complained about all the smoking in all the bars onboard. Being a smoker myself, I asked what ship they were on as we know the designated smoking areas, of which I have no problem with. No response.

Some people feel it is their right and privilege to complain about anything and everything. How about starting a movement towards those that spray on half a bottle of White Linen, then get on crowded elevator?

We are all human, why can we not get along and deal with each others personal preferances.

I am certainly not knocking it. And I think the person you were replying to is an advocate of e-cigs. It appears to me to be a significantly safer thing than actual smoking and anythign that helps people quit seems like a good idea to me. But the adds I have seen don't conform to your description. All of the adds I have seen advertise e cigs as a way to get nicotine without smoking, although they typically advertise graduated amounts of nicotine as a means to reduce the amount over time.

Not every pax is as attuned to smoking policies as we are on CC. I assume that a fair number of pax, esp from the US, expect their ship to be like at home, where you can sit in a bar, eat, lounge, see a show, etc w/o having to deal with smoke. Sitting in a bar on a RCI ship is impossible for long, as is trying to sit on a balcony for long. That's why we don't sail RCI anymore, even tho we are Diamond members. When Princess changed it's policy, we booked a cruise. Celebrity, Azamara and Oceania have been our cruise lines of choice many years. If you are concerned about smoking, don't sail RCI for one.

As for we are all human..........deal with others personal preference? Your smoking preference is harmful to me and anyone else in the vicinity. It's just not the same as wearing jeans in the MDR on formal night or holding a deck chair in the sun and another in the shade, according to your preference.

I think it is breath. It doesn't adhere to food, utensils, people as easily as something moist. That is why breathing isn't as big of a concern but when the breath is attached to something moist, like a sneeze or magic ecig vapor, it becomes a bigger concern. You really don't see the difference ?

You really are a piece of work! The original bubble boy.

First off glad you no longer sail RCI. Second you are not going to be harmed by going on a weeks cruise smelling someone's smoke out on a balcony and if you choose to go into a bar/lounge where smoking is allow then oh well your choice. So I refer back to glad you no longer cruise with RCI. :D

Shouting at people is no way to win them over. I've used e-cigs for two years now. Gave up a 50 year tobacco habit. The amount of nicotine varies depending on what the user desires from the supplier. There is certainly nicotine in mine. So far as any odor goes - generally little to none, although some of the flavors can give off a vary brief smell. Nothing like tobacco smoke. Cigarette smoke contains at least 4000 verifiable chemicals including tars and benzene. Nicotine is not a carcinogen and has been shown to be quickly absorbed by the user. The carrying agent is usually a combination of vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol. The glycerin is used as a food additive and propylene glycol is used in skin care, ice cream and baked goods among others.

Nicotine is a HIGHLY addictive drug and I certainly would not stand on a street corner pushing e-cigs on kids. Credible studies on their use and safety have been published by Boston University and the New Zealand health system. The reduction in harm to users is verifiable - I get along quite nicely without those other 4000 chemicals. I am certainly not a scientist or doctor (MY doctor is thrilled), but I suspect that any harm to others (besides offending their sensibilities) is far less than strolling one city block in any major city.

I'm not a doctor or scientist. I'm not saying it should be banned. I'm just saying it kind of grosses me out. The same way when someone sneezes or coughs without covering their mouth and nose. I'm not asking to ban uncovered sneezing or coughing but that grosses me out also.

Why is it rude to use an ecig in an elevator if it is no more harmful than breathing ?

The reason so many places ban them and in the UK most places do is the due to the conflict it causes because people think you are smoking and therefore start arguments over it.

this by the way has been confirmed by a cruise line and a major company that i worked for so i imagine the it's the same reason that everywhere else bans them

Yeah, as others have already pointed out, you should have your facts straight before posting something like that. It appears to be far less harmful (if harmful at all) to use e-cigs, compared to tobacco products. But there is precious little data about them, because most of the manufacturers don't want to go through the expense of testing.

They may or may not contain nicotine, depending upon what type you choose, and they certain other chemicals for flavoring, so it's not just water vapor, and there can be a smell. It's just not a smell that most people find offensive.

:D Just realized I'm responding to something that was posted months ago...

Did we really need to resurrect a 6 month old smoking thread? Haven't we got enough to fight about? ;-)

The funny thing is that if someone created a new thread about the same thing, ten people would comment telling the poster to use the search function. Can't win for losing around here.

Honestly I don't understand the balcony issue. To be fair though, I'm a smoker. However my wife is not, and shoreside, I do not smoke around here. However on cruises, we could be two feet apart and she would never notice. The ships moving, the wind is blowing, the smoke always seemed to vanish rapidly. I do understand that some are overly sensitive to it.

And before the rest of you jump on with your RAWR RAWR RAWR, I'm that kind smoker who asked you if you mind before I light up.

I don't understand the complaints.I have been on eleven cruises on Royal caribbean,i have never had a problem with smoke from another balcony. And i do not smoke.Face the facts people are allowed to smoke on their balcony. :)

I'm more interested in finding out how much a carton of cigarettes costs onboard. I read somewhere that it was around $25 - is this right?

I saw a recent picture of the shop selling them and that's roughly what it was, something like 2 for $53, depending on brand, etc.

I thought, dang! that's cheap, too bad I quit smoking and use e-cigs now :D

(which I fully intend on using onboard)

I am a smoker and am so grateful RCI still allows smoking on the balcony. I try hard to be a polite smoker and be sensitive to those around me. So, I never smoke on the balcony unless we are moving so the smoke dissipates quicker. If I hear neighbors on the balcony near me, I will refrain from smoking until "all is quiet". I never smoke indoors, even it is allowed someplace and that includes the casino.

I wish I didn't smoke (for lots of reasons!) and I do think we can all peacefully co-exist if we just try to be respectful and sensitive to one another.
