This makes me sick to my stomach. Carnival you should be ashamed of your intolerance and bigotry.

Agree!

Ignorance is bliss ... And everyone will be happy ... Cause they are on a "fun" ship!

Shaking my head!

Looks like ill be calling and getting a refund on my 3 FCC ... Will NOT support a company that is a bigot!

Sort of off the original subject, but I've seen drag queens that I want to take dress and makeup lessons from!!! I would have NO problem being on the ship, but I see where they are coming from with kids being onboard.

Maybe the person that wrote that letter could have been a slight bit more tactful, tho..

Carnival booked it for the money. That is why they booked it.

Bingo!!!!

It is the public bathroom issue that is the point I believe!!

No way can Carnival or any ship for that matter take the liability on.

Men dressed as women using the women's bathroom? Um no.....and that is not meant to be discriminatory...it is meant to be respectful to others using a public bathroom...there is a certain expected level of comfort to single sex bathrooms.

I am thinking that the group booked the cruise and Carnival took the booking without analyzing it carefully.

The entire ship should have been chartered.

Is this serious? No one is saying that you cant be gay or lesbian to cruise... They are saying they dont want a bunch or people dresisng in drag on a family cruise... Using rest rooms of the opposite sex...

Biggotry? Really? Promote Hatred? Really? I mean they ARE giving a place and format. Just asking it not be taken out to the public areas.

Im as Pro-Gay as you can get. But there is no such thing as cross-dressers rights. Like it or not, its not socially acceptable amongst kids, which is why you dont see it in most public places.

Get real. These are family ships. Yea, you could make this group happy, and piss off the rest of the ship. That makes so much sense. This is a business decison, plain and simple. Not hate.

Wait when we're thongs outlawed? Omg it's a butt! What about the uni sex bathrooms at the hard rock.....not to mention on Roatan at carnivals beach I always found it interesting that woman clean the rest rooms regardless who's doing what I n the men's room.

as a shareholder you need to contact HQ and put in a formal complaint

I find this fascinating on the part of CCL, and as a stockholder in Carnival Corporation, I am appalled.

CARNIVAL GLORY

DECEMBER 2, 2012

November 26, 2012

Greetings Fun Seekers!

We know you are looking forward to your cruise next month. We're certainly looking forward to welcoming you and your group aboard the beautiful Carnival Glory.

There are lots of special activities planned for your group so we are confident you are going to have a great cruise. However, in order to ensure a fun and memorable time for everyone, we want to take a few moments to make you aware of certain policies and conduct expectations so as to avoid any potential disappointment during your cruise.

Carnival attracts a number of families with children and for this reason; we strive to present a family friendly atmosphere. It is important to us that all guests are comfortable with every aspect of the cruise. Although we realize this group consists solely of adults, we nonetheless expect all guests to recognize that minors are onboard and, refrain from engaging in inappropriate conduct in public areas.

Arrangements have been made for drag performances in the main theater featuring stars from LOGO TV. These functions will be private and only the performers are permitted to dress in drag while in the theater. Guests are not allowed to dress in drag for the performances or in public areas at any time during the cruise.

We're sorry to say that any guest who violates our policies and/or whose behavior affects the comfort and enjoyment of other guests, will be disembarked at their own expense and no refund will be given.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Now that we've taken care of business...let the FUN begin!

See you soon!

Sincerely,

Vicky Rey, CTC

Vice President - Guest Services

This seems pretty draconian, frankly.

People probably won't agree with me, but I can't figure out how people in drag are not "family friendly". Seriously, what child is going to be harmed by it? Families may book on Carnival, but when you cram 3000 people onto a ship for a week, kids may be exposed to all kinds of behavior and people that are different than their home life. That doesn't mean it is bad for them.

And why on earth are people assuming that some guy in drag is going to use the women's restroom? AND, even if it happened, who cares? There are stalls.

The last I heard there were going to be 800 people or so from this group on the cruise. For Carnival to send out a letter 1 week before the cruise departs, telling people they can't dress in drag outside of their private parties - is just demeaning and ridiculous.

Although I would not take lessons from a drag queen. (Mapwife would be a mite disturbed). I was thinking that many that I have seen are better put together than many women.

But it is like the when Cops pose as hookers. We had one guy arrested here locally that said he thought she might be a hooker because she was so much better looking than the regular prostitutes.

Seems like some of the Queens are much better dressers than the ladies?

its actually close to 1300 people booked, so that makes it about 45% of the entire ships passengers.

Carnival took this group and decided to take the hundreds of thousands of dollars that came along with it.

Regardless of any past group, they have a public relations nightmare on their hands now with that letter that probably couldn't have been more poorly written.

They also can change the rules now and get away with it, but how many residual dollars will they lose.

I know that unless Carnival recants this myself and my partner will be calling up for refunds of our 4 Future Cruise Deposits which means they will lose my full fares for at least 4 cruises and how many of these people booked on the Glory will not book or their friends and family will not book.

Stupid PR move.

The letter essentially says that being LGBT and yes Drag/Transexuals fall under the spectrum is something to be hidden and not seen, especially by youth. As if it is something shameful or sickening.

Terribly disappointed tonight by CCL.

The 600 or so Singles on the Valor were unhappy when Carnival decided to stop their traditional early evening "wine/cabin crawl"...security made the voyage a bummer for some of them, following them, and some say harrassing them??

Just seems ridiculous. As for the "no costumes">> OMG...what a crock...I have been on various Carnival ships at Halloween...big plastic pumpkins

and scarecrows etc on the Promenade...costume contests...

employees and crew dressed up in costumes

I have had 2 "pirate" nights on NON Halloween cruises...when myself and 40 people (*Glory) and 30 people (Liberty) decided to dress up as pirates or at least semi pirates LOL> some were more into it than others

Everyone loved us <grin>

and what of the "Quest"?? Will they make the guys in the Quest game who dress up leave the ship??

Just mind boggling

Carnival - the homophobic bigoted cruise line. Obese women appearing on the Lido deck in two piece or less swim suits that are two sizes too small or obese men with their gut hanging out hiding their swim suit and a rear shot providing a plumbers smile are allowed but god forbid a fit male show up in womens clothing is verboten. So now I have it figured out. Being an older male with some extra baggage, I can wear my speedo two sizes too small and it will be approved. Now where did I put that suit 10 years ago?

They HAVE to recant this. And then they have to fire their PR people. This is bigoted and intolerance at its best. How can they, less then one week before the cruise, do this???? And to use post 9/11 as an excuse is offensive. Especially because I've personally been viewing costumed pictures from Halloween cruises on Carnival. I guarantee that the amount of business that they will lose from this is astronomical in relation to the few that may have been offended by queens. Bad move, Carnival. I hope you recant this. OMG, I studied PR in college, this would be a pr nightmare.

Oh My is first reaction. This is so wrong on so many levels. First of all most people seem to behave better when they are dressed up. Elegant night ring a bell? I have been to a few drag shows in my day and even my EX-hub sould not tell that they were not woman.

The bathroom issue. I do not have a problem with anyone in a dress in the womans room. But a dress in the men's room could cause problems. SO just make 1 restroom near the shows, 1 on each deck (?) for both sexes. SInce it looks like 45% of the passangers will be in the group then make 45% of the bathrooms both. A Queen in a dress is going to sit down to pee.

Plus I bet most of the shows are after the kids should be in bed.

Hope they book a big enough venue for the friends of Dorothy get togethers.

Why didn't this group charter the entire ship like the nudist cruise or other gay cruises? Problem solved, and no one would be threatened with being kicked off the ship. If not the Glory, then one of the smaller Fantasy class ships. IMO, this is too large of a group to be on a regular sailing-any group this size (1300+) will be taking over venues, etc.

Wow! This thing has gone ULTRA VIRAL on the net. Another misstep by the folks running Carnival.

And this from the folks who say who cares what others wear on board or in the dining rooms. They emphatically state it wouldn't ruin their meal what anyone was wearing at the next table.

And Carnival agreed with that.

Until now.

and I am sure that on the net the story will be misconstrued and twisted around because IMHO all media sources do these days is write their articles so that people will read their papers and don't write them truthfully anymore. It is like TV ratings for the press.

The NYPost made me ill yesterday with their article about the airlines not allowing a severly disabled overweight amputee to fly on their plane....but further reading and analysis of the article clearly proves that....

the pax should never have even thought to fly in commercial seats even though she bought 3 seats....she should have booked a medical transport. The plane was not equipped for her.

It gets worse..the article quotes an attorney..an ambulance chaser...who is not even their attorney..just an attorney who gave their opinion of the situation.

So the husband (the wife eventually died several days after not being able to get on the plane..but from the long standing illness that she had) never hired the attorney, but some attorney apparantly got the newspaper to write the article and quote him. aagain, he is not their attorney...just an attorney...who is mulling a lawsuit..for discrimination...something along the lines of...

people vs the airlines.

the victim never hired the attorney..the wife was on her final trip to say goodby to her homeland when she died..which they knew was coming...and did not book the proper transport home....but it makes the front page.....and I bet it sold plenty of papers yesterday....

I refuse to read the NYPost anymore. and yes, the airline told her they were not able to transport her and did everything they could for her, including finding an airline that could transport her..but she showed up at the airport anyway...knowing she would have issues. and the husband, who was interviewed for the article, said he knew she was ill and knew that this would be their last trip and was prepared for her death.

So a sick woman takes a trip and her expected death comes...but the airlines are at fault.

So cross dressers are taking a cruise..where there are public bathrooms...and the cruiseline asks them to not dress in drag while in the public areas..thus ensuring that those who are not cross dressers and who choose to use the public bathrooms will be assurred that the bathroom will be single sex...and the cruiseline is wrong?

This group has every right to book the cruise...but they can't break the rules. Just like a diaper clad baby can't use the pool and a 15 year old can't use the casino.

It is the bathroom issue..plain and simple...and the only way to be sure they won't cross the bathroom gender line is to prohibit cross dressing in public.

of course there are certainly cross dressers who do use either bathroom...but when you are with a large group of cross dressers it becomes difficult to hide it...an individual maybe could pull it off...but this is a large group.

You keep saying it is a bathroom issue - but the letter sent never even mentions the bathroom!

I feel sad for people who cannot see that this is discrimination. But am encouraged that so many do recognize it for what it is.
