Breakaway Aft Facing Penthouse (S6) question

We're leaving 5/26 and we'll be in a S6 on deck 10. So I'll look at it again then.

Have you seen pictures of the penthouse HC in the Haven itself? That was really nice!

16128 is the suite number and it does have a table and at least three chairs. Look at the pics hubby took in this link above.

I was just getting ready to post - I had looked at a different video (I seem to be technologically challenged today). Sorry about that. I've forwarded that video on the DH to see what he thinks.

We've only been dealing with the oxygen needs and scooter/rollator for 2 years (and he just had a setback in April) so we're still relatively new at this. Unfortunately, he's "luggage" and leaves the choice up to me (but, if he doesn't like it, sheesh.....).

Thanks again!

If that S5 is available I'd suggest considering it. Although I'm loving the S6 with the aft balcony I already know it's going to be a horror show getting Mark to and from the suite with the narrow hallways when the carts are out. And the last night when luggage is put out in the hallways we'll probably have to have several of us escort him back to his cabin so we can move suitcases out of his way to get down the hall.

Unfortunately looking at things like this is our "normal." When we do family cruises it's interesting trying to find the best cabins for everyone! I'm usually the one that gets the blame :)

DH's not liking the S5 (and, it's not available for the date we wanted anyway).

He did check out the deck plans and everything "he" wants to do (like the casino  and Cagneys) are off/near the Aft elevator bank. He even pointed out that Carlo's is there too as a nod to me since he cannot eat cake due to food allergies.

I'm going to talk to my T.A. about it since, we can have the scooter and, if it's too much effort to use daily, we can use the rollator (it's the convertible type - so I can use in the transport chair position to get him to a place, then convert to rollator for him to get around).

I can't imagine what it's like planning for more than one cabin like you are doing for the family cruise!

You said he just needs the scooter because he can't walk far? What about using the scooter to get to/from places and having the butler lock it up somewhere? Does he need it in the room?

Ultimately, that's probably what we will do if we wind up going with the Breakaway S6. If it's too much to deal with in the cabin, we'll figure something out with it. He'll only use it for Nassau (since we probably will stay aboard in Florida and GSC) and, he thinks he should be able to do the "walk" to most of what he wants to do. The theatre is further so I may be the designated "pusher" for that. We usually pass on shows anyway, so this may be a non-issue.

He's still coming to terms with his new way of life and, as a man who was always very active (golf, etc.) to now be adjusting is taking a toll. Plus, we've run across people who have been very rude about his oxygen so he's pretty self-conscious about it. And, since some of that has been within the Haven itself, that's why we are now looking to possibly be outside the Haven with access to the restaurant.

Don't let people's rude attitudes dictate the fun you want to have. Never mind those folks that have issues with the oxygen. Perhaps they need more oxygen going to their brains! Sorry for the rant.

LOL :D

I like the way you think!

I am the one who tells him to just keep on truckin' and I have been known to express my opinions if someone is mean (to him or anyone else). My "brain to mouth filter" was never installed. :D

I don't have a filter either. :D

For us here in Leadville, oxygen tanks are a normal thing. We're at almost 11,000ft and most of our seniors and all newborn babies (for at least 3 months) are on oxygen. I've heard tourist make some pretty harsh accusations of the mothers of these babies, and I certainly don't have a filter on those occasions.

Enjoy the Haven, your hubby will eventually stop noticing those folks. Just explain to him that maybe he should offer to share his tank with them because they are suffering from lack of oxygen to the brain. :)

Well, after a lot of thought, we decided to wait for more reports on size of the entryways (especially for Deck 10) of the S6 on the Breakaway.

Since the usual S5 we take on the Gem is sold out for the trip we want in March of 2015 - we're going with the S3 for that trip.

I'll be watching for more updates on the Breakaway's S6 so we can possible take the Breakaway in June or September of 2015 (or both ;)).

I sincerely thank everyone who helped me out over the last day or so with pictures/videos, etc.

Hope everyone has a super day!

We're on deck 14 in June, I'll have my scooter with me, so I'll let you know about the entryways.

This will be my first time using a scooter on a ship. I am worried about where to stash it while at the pool or at a restaurant or the buffet, etc. All tips and advice will be helpful. I'm on deck 12 in a suite, traveling with family. Sailing on June 2nd, just days away. Carol

Just off the ship and had a wonderful time and loved the cabin. I will say if your a light sleeper you may want to think twice before booking this cabin. Especially the higher deck as the noise and vibrations from spice is intense at times (10:30pm until late and 8am - 9am). It did not bother me in the slightest but I am a deep sleeper.

If anyone has any question feel free to ask.

Thank you do much for all your updates. :). This is very good to know as we are on deck 14. I will pack ear plugs, tape measure and butter so hubby can butter my hips to fit me thru the narrow doors. Lol. :). So happy you had a great time. :)

:):):)

I would guess the door is about 2 feet wide , maybe a little bigger. Its really not a big deal, but they are strangely heavy.

Its not so much the noise as it is the vibrations from the booming base that would annoy some people

Thanks so much for your input. It has been invaluable.

I guess I can compare the vibrations to my sons Xbox I hear day after day, shaking my walls. Lol

Or my daughter listening to one direction all day. :) boom boom.

I spent so much money and have been looking so toward to this cruise since October 2011. A little noise or vibration can't scare me. Lol.

Thanks again.

Wow!!! The savings is definitely wonderful. I'm sure you can only imagine what I'm paying for that room for the four of us. :(. It will be a vacation of a lifetime for us. I can't see us being able to pay that amount yearly. :(

I have never had a suite before and hubby and children do not know. They think they are staying in the mid ship balcony like last time. Lol. I whacked my head a million times on my sons drop down bed from the ceiling trying to get out to the balcony. My family is awaiting moms yearly concussion. Lol. They are in for a surprise.

You will love it. Part of the reason we changed is because we are sailing in February and would not be able to use the balcony for most of the trip( we smoke and use the balcony a lot to do so) If we were sailing on your sail date I doubt we would have changed.

I may be wrong but I think the s6 on the breakaway at least, may in the future become a hot commodity. It has a huge balcony compared to others and haven access. I just found out that the aft penthouses on some of the other ships, are not part of the haven.

I was initially upset when I found out deck 14 does not have the tub in front of the window. But when I saw the bedroom picture and I can get out to the balcony from bedroom and living room area, I was so happy. Hey, I booked sight unseen in 2011. I can't expect too much. :)
