Splendor - Carnival Offering Full Refund if Desired

We are on the Splendor right now, and this is day 3 in Puerto Vallarta. We were supposed to leave at 11 pm yesterday, but they have been working pretty much non stop on the ship.

After the initial email we got that someone posted, we have no more information. Except for passengers noticing this is not a seaday, but instead, we are still here.

Maybe later we will be given an update. It is costing them a lot of money. People left the ship for 2 days and drank on shore. The casino and shops are closed tight for 3 days (plus the one day in Cabo)

We are having fun, but then, we are go with the flow people. Cruise is supposed to be back in Long Beach Sun morning

Thank you for replying. We are schedule to sail to Hawaii on 1/19 so like you, we have a vested interest in the situation. Please keep us posted. Glad you are making the best of it!!

I just want to know if I need to seriously start looking at "plan B".

Well the reason we did not know was it is messed up so bad, I am sure they were still figuring out what to do. First, we are stuck in Puerto Vallarta, until the very least 5pm today. The Splendor will not be back in Long Beach until Monday morning as it stands now. People who have to be back on Sunday must debark today and Carnival will fly them to CA. If course, that is only people with passports (so much for the argument, you don't need a passport for a closed loop cruise) We were told to wait if we have private arrangements (we do), because if it is not fixed by 5pm today and they have to extend it, we will not arrive until later than Monday morning. As it stands now, we will just change our flight 24 hours to 5pm Monday, but we are waiting until we are underway to know for sure.

They are letting people go ashore now and have to back on board at 4 pm, so you know we are not expected to leave until then.

$200/person for people with private flights for changes.

They will arrange the people booked through Carnival

Flights and transportation for people who get off the ship here and fly back to CA (not an option for people without a valid full passport)

Gratuities for the last day on on them LOL

Here is my thought,

Carnival is being very proactive, and hoping to save money.

If already have doubts about the repair getting done on time, to get back to LB on Sunday. So they have offered the "refund" now, so they can get rid of some of the passengers.

That way IF the repairs do run long;

1. And they have offer discounts on a future cruise, it is less cabins to deal with, and less money lost for the future

2. If they have to fly people home/refund/pay for changes in airfair for passengers not making it back to LB on Sunday, it will be less passengers

They are hoping to save money is the bottom line, because they don't think it is going to be on schedule.

Good Luck, if I were on this cruise, I would still go because my job would alow it, but others probably not Like my DW. I guess she would have to stay home, and I would go alone. Ha Ha

Told ya!

I would take the refund. Fellow passengers tend to get a little antsy when the ship doesn't follow the itinerary they booked, but usually worse when the change takes place after they sail.

For them to be offering full refunds freely, it smells like they're not disclosing something.

And we were being called conspirators on the Facebook page.

Hold on!!!!

I am on the 1/13/2013 sailing as well and I have made a few calls..one being to my tour company in PV that just informed me (as I called to cancel my tour to get my refund) that they in fact just recieved an email from carnival stating they may be cancelling the 1/13/2013 cruise altogether, this is in fact an option if they are unable to leave port today in PV. They also sent all of us an email which we have all recieved stating a shorter cruise and itinerary change. Either way at 4:30pm today (West coasters) and 7:30pm (East Coasters) we will know the actual fate of our cruise. I have spent a good portion of the last hour working on my plan B. To late to cancel airfare as I was flying in to LB tomorrow. I added a night already onto my hotel as I know now hotels will SELL OUT. Keeping fingers crossed....I wanna cruise. This is our first ever carnival cruise, we usually cruise Disney and NCL and I am so far NOT impressed.

CARNIVAL SPLENDOR

JANUARY 13, 2013

January 11, 2013

Hi there!

Betcha can't wait for your cruise on Sunday, which is why we want to provide you with some important information regarding the arrival of the Carnival Splendor.

On the previous cruise, the Carnival Splendor required necessary repairs on the seals of the ship's propulsion shafts as a result of damage caused by underwater fishing nets. All other shipboard systems and hotel services continue to function as normal.

Unfortunately, the repairs are taking longer than expected and the ship will need to remain in Puerto Vallarta until this afternoon. I am sorry to say that our plans now call for the ship's arrival into Long Beach to be delayed until Monday morning (to be confirmed later this afternoon). If our plans proceed as expected, our scheduled 6-day cruise will be shortened to a 5-day cruise, with two full day visits to Cabo San Lucas (eliminating the call to Puerto Vallarta).

Check-in for your cruise is now scheduled for Monday, January 14, 2013, from 12:30PM to 3:30PM, and sailing is set for 4:30PM.

Below is the revised itinerary:

DAY PORT ARRIVE DEPART MON Los Angeles (Long Beach), CA

4:30 PM TUE Fun Day @ Sea

WED Cabo San Lucas, Mexico 9:30 AM 6:00 PM THU Cabo San Lucas, Mexico 8:00 AM 2:00 PM FRI Fun Day @ Sea

SAT Los Angeles (Long Beach), CA 9:00 AM

We know how much you were looking forward to this vacation and sincerely apologize for this disruption to your cruise. We kindly ask you consider the following options:

Sail with us and receive a:

• One-day pro-rated refund of your cruise fare (refunded within the next 2 weeks)

• $50 per person on board credit

• Refund of the difference in government fees and taxes, if applicable

• Gratuity adjustment to reflect the shortened voyage

• Refund for shore excursions purchased for Puerto Vallarta

We realize this is an unexpected change in your travel plans and certainly hope you still cruise with us. However, should you wish to cancel or reschedule, please contact 1-800-CARNIVAL to request a refund or select another date for your cruise.

We will provide you with an update on our arrival plans by 7:30PM EST. Once we have a definitive arrival time, guests who purchased flights with Carnival's FlyAweigh program will automatically have their flights adjusted. Guests with independent flight arrangements should not make any changes to your travel plans until our next update. However, should you incur any fees for air changes, you will be reimbursed up to $200 per person (please email receipts to guestcare@carnival.com).

Once again, we're very sorry for this change and truly regret the disruption to your vacation plans. Most importantly, we are looking forward to having you sail with us aboard the beautiful Carnival Splendor.

Sincerely,

I just got off the phone with Carnival after 30 minutes and there is no other cruise they will replace our Jan 13th cruise if it is cancelled. The closest cruise we could find was the Miracle's 7 day Mexican Riveria cruise on March 31st and April 7th. Being spring break and the prices higher due to demand they want almost double what we paid for our Splendor cruise if we rebook on the Miracle. They will not price-match any cruise for the January 13th sailing if it cancels.

Looks like if the Splendor does not Cruise on Monday we will be out of luck! We booked this cruise last February and have been dreaming of this for almost a year.

Also--- 2 years ago we were booked on the Splendor for Jan 2011 and we were canceled due to the Fire in November. They gave us a 25 per cent coupon off our next cruise and we rebooked for the Carnival Spirit.

Do you think they will offer us Discounts on future cruises if the cancel the January 13th Cruise?

CARNIVAL SPLENDOR

JANUARY 13, 2013

January 11, 2013

I'm back!

As promised, I wanted to provide you with an update on our plans for your cruise aboard the Carnival Splendor.

I am pleased to inform you that thanks to the hard efforts of our technical team, the repairs have been successfully completed and the Carnival Splendor will be sailing from Puerto Vallarta this evening.

As previously mentioned, we will now operate a 5-day cruise leaving on Monday, with two full day visits to Cabo San Lucas (eliminating the call to Puerto Vallarta). Check-in for your cruise is now scheduled for Monday, January 14, 2013, from 12:30PM to 3:30PM, and sailing is set for 4:30PM.

Guests who purchased flights with Carnival's FlyAweigh program will automatically have their flights adjusted. Guests with independent flight arrangements may now proceed with making the necessary changes to your travel plans. Should you incur any fees for air changes, you will be reimbursed up to $200 per person (please email receipts to guestcare@carnival.com).

We sincerely regret the inconvenience this has caused and thank you for your understanding. Most importantly, we can't wait to welcome you aboard!

Sincerely,

WOW...hope they get this fixed before the 19th! Don't want to get stuck heading to Hawaii!

We were with you on the Legend. We hope you won't have any problems. You will love Hawaii. As you can see with our screen name we like it there. You will really enjoy Kona. Hope to see you again sometime.:D

We decided to cancel and take the money & run! Now that we are losing a sea day and PV altogether (where it's warm) it doesn't seem worth it to go. Carnival was very nice about it, said they'll credit my amex for 100% of the airfare, excursions and cruise fare within 10-14 days. After hanging up I found a really good last minute package deal on orbitz to Hawaii. So, Waikiki Beach, here we come!

So, how did they make the repairs to the seals on the props, in an earlier post Friday someone said there were parts all over the dock, would love to see pictures of that.

But how do they do the repairs, with scuba divers? Robot sub type machine? Flood the front of the ship to tip it and raise the back out of the water?

Just would be interesting to see/know how it is done.

anyone know?

Sorry for my late response...looks like we are indeed cruising on Monday. I spoke to carnival tonight and they are reimburssing us for 1 night extra we are paying in the hotel up to $200 per stateroom for an extra hotel night, also $15 per person for lunch, and $25 per person for dinner. This is for people like me who couldn't change airline tickets at the last minute and I am still set to fly in tomorrow night. So that's nice they are paying me back for my expenses on Sunday. As for the cruise itself I was worried about them canceling and offering 25% off certificates....thank God they didn't cancel. So they are giving us quite a bit back though for cruising. We will be reimburssed for one night cruise fare, 1 day gratuities, plus a $50 per person obc, and government taxes and fee's for one day. I know lot's of people canceled....and we thought about it, but then decided we will just go for it, I'd rather be cruising anyday of the week over working. LOL plus we were goin to Long Beach come hell or high water anyways we bought non refundable airline tickets.

Very glad everything is back on track for most. TONS of people cancelled the 1/13 cruise. Every category is open now for anyone looking for a last minute cruise.

We are on the 1/19 and I was very surprised and delighted that no one seems to have cancelled this one.

Good luck to everyone and holy cow.....what a day...:o:o:o

We are still going too! Not sure if you are aware, but we are having a CC sail away meet and greet right after the muster drill up on Lido Deck 9 at the aft bar pool... facing the aft of the ship, the bar is on the righthand side, as you walk down from the stairs from the rotisserie :)

Just looked at rates and the west coast special was 379 pp, but then when you go to select cabin, it adds $39 no matter what part of the ship you select. (normally one part, usually forward or aft would get the rate with no add on) i am not playing that game. Don't advertise a rate if you are not going to honor it. We call that deceptive advertising. I might have jumped on this one since I live next to the port but now it's left me saying whatever...

My situation was different. Whether I chose the West Coast Sale or the Instant Saver, they both stayed at $379pp to the end. And if I choose upper/lower in the West Coast sale, it lowered it $50pp, to $368pp.

Your numbers seem wonky... $368 is not $50 less than $379. I tried again and I get the same result. $39 added no matter what...
